Official UofU homer thread

Joe Williams officially back per Kyle Goon.
Im pleasantly surprised. Didn't think he would come back but I actually really like him. Im probably a bigger fan of him than most all ute fans lol.

I had high hopes for him this season. But the fumbles were hard to get past. And he can't seem to break a tackle, like he never seemed to break even a one handed off balance type of tackle.

Ya he does seem a little soft. I'm a sucker for speed though and he has that in spades.
As a byu fan, I think it makes me value speed more than other fans since its the #1 thing byu usually is lacking lol.

The speed is exciting. Get him in space and he could take a ball to the house from anywhere. But It's hard to go completely untouched to the endzone. And if guys can tackle you with a little tug on the jersey the speed is virtually worthless. That said the Utes need him at this point, I'm glad he's back because he's got to be better than the 6th string guy.

He's a good get. I always thought Guy Holliday did great work for BYU not only from a recruiting stand point, but I always viewed BYU's WRs as extremely well coached. I thought it was a mistake when Sitake didn't retain him and I was really happy when Utah brought him in. 6 games into his tenure at Utah, the WR group is leaps and bounds better than it's been in a long time. Guy Holliday brings good WR'S into fold and he coaches the hell out of them once they get into his program. He's such a huge asset.

Is this certain?
I don't know how well this would go over with the rest of the team that's been busting their asses for the last month while he sat around.

To address this point (a valid one)...

Apparently the coaches went to the team first and talked to them and took a vote to see if he would be welcomed back.
He wasn't approached until the team OK'd it.
Probably the right way to do it.

The only way to do it. I'm honestly not sure how I'd feel about it off I were one of those players. On one hand, you need him. On the other, when it became evident he was going to lose playing time, he quit.

It seemed to me like he quit because he might lose playing time too, but one thing you gotta understand is these are college kids. During recruiting they might change their mind about what school to attend 10 times, most people will change their major several times throughout college, and just in general this is he biggest time of people's lives to start making their own choices and really "find themselves".

With all of this, I don't think most players will fault him too much for changing his mind, especially if he is a likeable guy.

I agree. I liked him at BYU and wanted him to stay.

On the Joe Williams thing, obviously the team ok'd this first so chemistry is of zero concern. Like many Ute fans, I'm concerned about his fumbling habits. I doubt that 5 weeks away from football made him better at holding on to the ball. I can even forgive the guy for ALWAYS going down on first contact. Just stop putting the damn football on the ground.

For the record, I don't think this will turn in to a positive for Utah. Zach Moss may be back this week and I think he's flat out better than Williams. McCormick should be back the following week and he's also better IMO. Joe is a good kid, but he's still going to be the same player: A fumble prone RB that doesn't get you YAC and has a questionable passion for the game.

If the weather forecasts hold true, I'm putting the over/under on combined completed passes at 10. No pun intended, but this is the perfect storm for an OSU upset.

I just don't want another slow start from this team. Quit digging yourselves holes, weather might not be permitting for a comeback this tmie.

Whitt is constructing a very nice coaching staff. And guys who want to be here with little to no aspirations of leaving.

Whitt is a lifer.
ARod ain't ever going anywhere.
Erickson sounds like he is staying until he retires.
Holliday basically begged Whitt for the job so he wouldn't have to move.
Scalley won't go unless he isn't the next head coach...unless GA takes over.
Shah ain't going anywhere.

Consistency will be so HUGE for a program like Utah. We need every advantage we can get, and running the same system over and over and over again...it is hard to not be good.

Like Bruce Lee said, "I don't fear the man that knows 10,000 kicks. I fear the man who has done one kick 10,000 times."

I agree. This weather is pissing me off. We might get our season screwed over because of a freaking monsoon.

Here would be my plan:

Put Williams back at a Wildcat QB. Line up 5 OL, three TE's, and put two more OL in the backfield as FB's. Then run, run, run.

j/k...kinda.

Marcus Williams, Fitts, Tauteoli, Patrick, 3 centers, and 4 RB's injured. The injuries are piling up...
