Never Trump

You really should reread the last few pages with some objectivity.

I'm sure I was completely subjective in everything I said, unlike you. But could you point out to this simpleton what exactly you're talking about? "LOL" and "reread with objectivity" don't really help me to change my ways or see clearly. I really started talking to you with no ill-will at all. After it became apparent that this was a fruitless conversation with respect to Siro, I may have been rude, and I'm sorry for that.

I'm not writing the definitive work on modern day intellectuals, but if you want to add to the list, then feel free. I'm glad you can sit back and enjoy the "show." Being serious is all relative. You know very little about me outside of this forum in which I post almost exclusively on Trump. If I had to paint a picture of someone who was obviously not an idiot who hasn't been bothered with the election, he/she is more often than not someone who is single, with no kids, in their twenties, and a regular toker of marijuana. In this election, I would also add male, comfortable financially, and with plenty of opportunities in his/her life. It's a lot easier to go with the flow when you're in this situation.

I don't know where you stand in relationship to these features, but we all ain't equal. Lots of people have more skin in the game than other people, and I try to understand them all. So feel free to give pronouncements about me, which reflect your complacency in imposing your ideal of a balanced human being on others. I can try to guess what you're like just as easily as you can label me.

For one, your list of intellectuals sucks. It's Chomsky (legit) plus what appears to be the winners of a Buzzfeed survey about your favorite pop-atheists. They're not bad thinkers, per se. Dawkins is a world-class biologist, Krauss is a renowned physicist, and Dennett is an occasionally interesting philosopher. Ayaan and Harris are... people, I suppose. But none of them are "top intellectuals", unless you consider The God Delusion some philosophical magnum opus, and anti-Islam zingers on Twitter to be a fulcrum of high culture.

So while I think your perspective on intellectuals needs SERIOUS expansion, that's neither here nor there. You bring up those people in an appeal to authority, and that's really annoying. "Not only do I think you're wrong, but so do these intelligent people!". How silly.

And I don't need to know you to realize that you're taking yourself way too seriously. Yes, Trump is an *******. And yes, white supremacists like him, blah blah. But at the end of the day, all he did was illuminate a part of the American psyche that was obscured before. And it's okay. We now know what we're up against. And it's not the end of the world.

So thanks for the lecture on what's at stake. But the whole thing is entertaining. It would be entertaining even if he was going to win. It's more so because he's going to lose. Feel free to continue frowning intensely at the situation. I don't think my lack of seriousness is in any way consequential. But you sound like you're way more important.

You can do whatever and feel however you like. In the scheme of things, my world will be changed very little when it comes to your opinions, and the same can be said for my opinions and you. You have much more confidence in your ability to predict events and are approaching the condition of our politics as entertainment. If you want to be left alone to do that, then have at it. I was trying to express how I think the imposing of your own standards on me and therefore others who share my feelings and anxieties is unreasonable. I'm more concerned than you are, as are many people. I could just as easily call you a jack-off who tokes weed all day and doesn't really take much seriously. That doesn't accomplish anything. Just because you don't see life the way I do, doesn't mean that I have to impose my human standards on you. I can disagree with your stances, but dictating your reactions and feelings is something that I don't do.

If you don't want to talk about differences, then just say "**** off! I don't want to hear about this dumb ****." I appreciate hearing about many of the posters' outlooks. Other posters say very little that I find compelling. I don't really want to have a conversation with them, so I don't. That's fine. If you don't want to talk, then say it. Talking about differences in thinking with someone whose arguments are normally well-informed and compelling is something I welcome. This is who I am on this forum, and if it's not doing it for you, then good luck.

JJAS, I think this conversation has taken a wrong turn.

The people who are arguing here all pretty much agree with one another as far as the political issues go. Maybe that's dumb to say, because I'm sure there are a lot of differences in opinion. But, none the less, no one in this argument is advocating for Trump to be President because of how good a thing that would be.

I think you got told to calm down and it had the opposite effect. Maybe it was no ones business to tell you to calm down? Maybe you didn't even need to calm down because you were already perfectly calm before they said that? I don't know, man.

When you got told to look back objectively I think the person was saying that you might see that you got offended where no offense was intended and then things kind of went off the rails.

I'm not assigning blame. I just think people who mostly agree and respect each other's opinions are having a bitter argument about having a bitter argument.

Who is imposing anything on you? I made fun of your seriousness. That's hardly imposing my standards on you. If my opinion means nothing to you, then it means nothing to you.

And I don't know, but I think my opinions have changed due to conversations I've had with people on Jazzfanz. And conversations I've had with people in general. I have no problem with you or any of your opinions.

Telling someone how they should feel is tricky. Not on the level of telling someone you see on the street to smile for you, but still easy to have it taken the wrong way or at least in an unintended way. This election has a lot of people understandably riled up and on edge. We’ll all get through it somehow (as of this morning Clinton has a 97 percent win probability). In the meantime, I'll respect everyone’s different levels of intensity and perspective. Speaking of intensity, I’ve always loved McEnroe’s, and whenever the subject of seriousness comes up I always laugh when I think of this:

Trump is picking back up steam.

They should have waited til right before the election to release the tape. People are getting over it fast.

This assumes there won’t be more tapes or more stories about Trump’s disrespect for women. Trump has bragged about how being the owner of beauty pageants allowed him to walk in on contestants while they were undressing/getting dressed. “No men are anywhere, and I’m allowed to go in, because I’m the owner of the pageant and therefore I’m inspecting it. . . .And you see these incredible looking women, and so I sort of get away with things like that.”

Now it’s been alleged he did this not only with adults in the Miss USA pageant but creeped on teenage girls while they were dressing during the Miss Teen USA pageant.

The difficult part for me about a political conversation in todays climate is that in my opinion if you are not against Trump you are de facto for him. People who don't speak out against him now are the same type of people who thought Hitler was the strong change that Deutschland needed. It's that simple. The people of 1933 Germany didn't recognize that Hitler was about to systematically murder millions of children and women. And it took a while for Hitler's power to develop to the point where he could orchestrate his master plan. Luckily Hitler's hubris resulted in a two front war otherwise the world would be a totally ****ed up place. What master plan does Trump have? He doesn't. He just throws **** at the wall to see if it sticks. But the **** he throws is full of denigration and marginalization. Couldn't you see him building a wall around black communities like Hitler did with the Warsaw ghettos? Stop and frisk like the SS? Americans turning each other in to the police for the slightest pro-islam sentiment? Jailing dissidents? Fining fat people? Would Trump come up with his own Fuhrer salute? Sounds ridiculous right now doesn't it?

Wow. Third party candidates have over 1/3 of the vote and Utah has a very real chance of not being red this November. According to this poll at least. Imagine if Utah goes for McMullin and New Mexico goes for Johnson...

Thoughts?

New Mexico will go to Clinton.

Unless the trajectory of the race changes dramatically in the next few weeks, I expect Clinton will win easily. If the Trump slide continues and he does actually lose Utah, he will be landslided and humiliated by historic margins.

Where are you getting this from? The conservative echo chamber?

CNN had a pole showing he was at 35% through the 8-9 of Oct. Then bummped to 37% on the 10th. Something to that effect. I think 2 percent in a day is some nice steam.

Also, did you see what Stoked said about our state. Remeber you said no way Trump could lose Utah? You were gonna bet money.

Trump will win Utah.

Also, the polls don't matter as much as Trump's impossible path to 270 electoral college points.
