Muslims not happy with Christmas tree in Sweden

So sad to watch. How we can talk about success of multiculturalism and help for integration of new immigrants from Muslims countries when these savages act like this in country which given them new freedoms and opportunities?

So let me get this straight. You want multiculturalism with "savages"?

I want it with people who accept and respect their new countries laws, traditions and customs. People who act like the ones in video destroying Christmas tree are savages and no I do not want multiculturalism with them at all. I do not think they deserve freedom and other benefits Western countries have to offer.

Just like when your ancestors came to a new country and respected the laws, traditions and customs?

My ancestors never came to any new country. But I did. And I do respect Canada's customs, laws and traditions.

Nonetheless. It is expected of new arrivals to be respectful of the traditions of their host community.

Fair enough. The actions in this video are terrible and not the correct action but their outcry has justification. Muslims are not new to that country or many other countries and are not treated equal in many situations as you know.

Sorry to lump you in, I know almost nothing about you. Where did you immigrate from?

Many citizens in the US dislike immigrants and are opposed to it. Sometimes they justify this dislike with actions of the immigrants. All of them forget that their ancestors immigrated to this country and to Canada at the cost of the native people here, who were almost wiped out. I dont think there are many customs, laws or traditions alive in the USA or Canada from the native people of this land.

Muslims, on average, are not the most tolerant lot though. I don't fully disagree with your second statement. But there are two sides to this issue.

I'm responsible for my life, not my ancestors life. If I found out my great great grandfather was a bank robber I'm not gonna let someone come and rob my house and say, "hey my great great grand daddy did it, who am I to judge?"

Yeah but what if your great great grandfather traveled in time and robbed you. What would you do then? You can't kill him because if you do then Butterfly Effect and you arent born.

Lol

Have you seen that movie with the guy from 3rd rock from the Sun and Bruce Willis where he is going back in time to kill himself or something?

I like that movie.

I would assume being an ancestor of an immigrant would make people more sympathetic and understanding of others plight in similar situations, but I guess everyone. Although the story of your ancestor being a bank robber sounds nice and makes it relatable and easy to digest for you those are not the same and is a poor analogy.

there's a difference in welcoming new immigrants to one's oountry and accepting and integrating their way of life into said host nation as opposed to being ok with immigrants actively abusing the hospitality of the host country and seeking to change things about that host country they don't like.

I do agree with their being a difference. I have also stated that I disagree with the actions the individuals are taking in this video. But allowing people to practice their religion in the host country is not asking too much. Also there is nothing wrong with seeking change in a new country. Muslims for example have been in Sweden for a long time. In the United states for example there is no reason that in public buildings we should allow some religious symbols and traditions and not allow others just because they are a bigger religion. I have no problem with Christmas trees in buildings but I also have no problem with other religions things in our buildings. I do dislike the 10 commandments being in public buildings, especially courthouses because those beliefs are not the governments beliefs and should not be leaned on for making decisions. I like separation of government and state. All people in a country should obey the laws but if they do not like the laws I think seeking to change them is a perfectly reasonable path. Protests that are non violent/destructive are a fine way to try and get change. Immigrating to a new country is very difficult. Becoming a citizen in the US is extremely difficult, my wife has gone through this and it was hard. I dont see why being born somewhere makes you better than someone born else where. Immigrating to make a better life for yourself should be rewarded and allowed wherever that is.

Pretty good analogy tbh.

I'm marrying an immigrant (she hasn't immigrated yet), does that reset everything for the children we will have, or do they have to feel bad about everything my side of the family has done in the past? How far back? My great grandpa was an immigrant, so does the guilt start there or do we just feel guilty about all the bad that our ancestors have done all over the world instead of just limiting it to the bad thats been done in America?

TIA, new to all of this but excited to get started!!

Have you annihilated an entire society and are your children benefiting from what was taken? I guess if your ancestor robbed everything from a certain race of people and then for generations you have used that advantage to stay ahead and hold the other group down it might be closer. You currently benefit from whatever situation you were born into and the advantages you received. As a baby are you more entitled to the riches your ancestor stole than another baby? I am not saying you need to pay money to someone or give them something back, just understand that you have received benefits and try and end holding back other groups and help others get on the right path in life.

I am not talking about reparations nor guilt just sympathy. Yes I would hope your children have sympathy for immigrants because of the the path their mother went through.

I don't inherently disagree with everything you are saying, but I would see the best options of how to go about life if you have the convictions that it seems you have as...

Option 1: Actively try and help disadvantaged people. Give a leg up to immigrants, provide service to Native Americans if you want to, whatever you feel like.

Option 2: Live your life as best you can, and don't step on anyone that is less fortunate than you or wasn't born with the same privilege that you were

Option 3-782: Other things I cant think of.

Option 783: Feel guilty about being American. Feel guilty about things that happened before you were born. Try to get people that don't feel guilty about the things you feel guilty about, to feel guilty about them.

(PS: The "path" my fiance is having to take is putting up with me, saying I do, then filling out paperwork. Also, it is HIGHLY debatable if she is winning or losing by moving here from her homeland. We shouldnt judge immigrants by putting in the same box ya know!! ;););))

perfectly reasonable. To each their own and respect to all. We don't tend to much of an issue with seperation of church and state here. What i'm referring to is the sometimes overzealous politically correctness that defies logic like banning kids from singing christmas carols etc in case it offends minority groups. Allowing people to practice their religion in freedom should be a given but i think that they should also expect to exist alongside the traditions and customs of the large majority of citizens of the country they choose to live in or have been granted shelter in.
