What's new

2011 draft.....

Well, the lottery happens off air in a separate room. Then all the selections are put in envelopes that are opened and revealed on air. The actual revelation of the lottery balls doesn't happen on live tv. Only the revelation of what happened off air with only some firm being there to witness and swear that nothing fishy happened.

The opening of the envelopes has the feel of it being the first time anyone finds out the order of the lottery. It bugs. Why can't see all see it live? Why the filtered reveal show instead of authentic transparency?

Sorry guys. I'm digressing into a dark mood. I hate Stern.

This might be a dumb question, but if we win the lotto do we get the first two picks or something?

No. It's just that every pick has a chance to move into the top 3 picks. Pick 6 has a greater percentage chance than pick 12 but they both have a chance. Highly unlikely they both move into the top 3, but it's technically possible.

It would be nice if just one of them did let alone if 2 miraculously did. I want Irving pretty badly.

Perry Jones is a SF. Thurl Bailey clone.

He could play alongside PFs Millsap, Favors and Harrington.

Jan Vesely is a SF too.

I think #6 is between Perry Jones, Jan Vesely and Jimmer.

Don't think Harrison Barnes will fall past #3.

I agree. We are going to have to have some luck to be able to draft Barnes, Irving, or even Williams for that matter.

We need to package the two picks [and more if needed (Miles?) to move up to 3 or 4 (or higher of possible) and get Irving, Williams or Barnes.

Exactly. If we are sold on any of the top picks we need to go get them. If KOC believes one of these guys is the real deal he needs
to be aggressive. He did it with Deron, so it's possible. Washington, or Sac will bite...

On the other hand if we ended up with something like Kanter and Walker how could you not be thrilled about that?

So I take it they will differentiate the Jazz's lotto balls so in the rare case the 4 or whatever that the Jazz get for the 12th/13th pick get in the top 3 that the Jazz will still have the Nets pick at 7 or 8.

At #6, the candidates are:
Jimmer Fredette 6-2 200 PG

We should probably try to move up, so nobody else gets him first.

Seriously though, it just ain't happening at #6. Good chance at #12, but I think there's a potential for a major meltdown among Jimmer fans, depending on who's left on the board.

Just for kicks, here's a PG ranking from DA. Walker at #2, Jimmer at #5.

If you love BYU this much, then you need to stop pretending to evaluate talent. You've probably lost any respect you might have gained from the people on this board.

Up until the losses at HOU and MEM I had been holding on to all hope that we'd make the playoffs so that we could avoid the ~12th pick in this draft. But, now that missing the playoffs is a near certainty I'm trying to get on the Kemba Walker bandwagon. The scary thing is that I don't have any faith that the FO will pass on Jimmer at that spot -- taking him over Walker.

I'm souring a bit on Kanter since our need for a shooter far surpasses our needs for a Walker-Kanter rookie crop. I'm hoping for a Williams or Barnes + Walker selections right now, but I'm sure that'll change.

Irving would be amazing, but I worry about trading both picks in order to move up to get him. IMO, we need to get the best wing possible.

I like the idea of packaging the two lottery picks for a higher pick IF we don't land a top three pick. If somehow lady luck visits the Jazz and we end up with a third, second, or first pick.. keep the picks! I really like Barnes.

I'd rather have Kemba, Knight or Irving than Devin, so if Devin can be moved for a decent wing player, and one of those guys is available (and the BPA), you gotta pull the trigger.

It looks like Barnes is projected to go #4 at this point. Think we could package #6/#12 to move up and get him? We need a wing desperately, and other than Barnes we're looking at Vesely or Burks.

Magic Johnson, Kevin Durant and Derrick Rose all say Jimmer is the real deal and have high praise for him. In fact, Durant and Rose both played against Jimmer last summer, so I think they know what they're talking about.

In addition to them, David West was interviewed by Jim Rome today, and he said Jimmer would be able to take his game to the NBA and would do well. Anybody that can shoot, and score like that has a place there. (paraphrase)
It seems the players think there is a spot for him

True. Michael Jordan's proven to be such a great assessor of talent.

These professional, or former professional basketball players are all filler. Of course we all realize you, as an anonymous forum poster will always have the most insight and knowledge of what it takes to make it in the NBA. I just forgot to mention it in my earlier post. I apologize for my omission of this detail.
