What's new

2011 draft.....

I watched Burks play last night in the NIT and was pretty impressed. He's basically like the bizarro (evolved) CJ!!! in that he takes it to the rim every time instead of jacking up 3s and he is right-handed. Also, he is already physically "mature" at 19. Supposedly he was under the weather, got an IV at half time, yet still torched Kent State for 25 (11 for 18), 10, 4 assists, 4 steals in 33 minutes. He had one particularly impressive reverse layup late in the game on which he was fouled but it wasn't called. I would definitely endorse him for the second lotto pick.

Count me as impressed too. I especially liked the way he handled the ball. I could see him playing both SG/PG in the NBA.

Is Barnes really staying in school if they don't win it all?

TBD---sources say he might stay in school, but again during the tournament most of them say they might stay. Once the agents come crawling or their families think of the money they can get this often changes.

Well, one reason he takes it to the hoop is that his 3pt numbers are pretty bad. Have not seen him play a lot. Perhaps comparable to Demar Derozan?

If you could get Kanter at 6 and T.Jones at 12 maybe you could wait til the following year's draft (the Golden State pick) and grab UNC's Marshall as your PG of the future. He's touted as the best passer and the main reason UNC turned around their season - causing Barnes' stock to go up. He's compared to Mark Jackson. Just talking about the way Jackson played the game (and not his locker room dividing ways) I think he was totally Utah Jazz kinda PG.

No chance Marshall leaves next year. While he is one of the best passers I've seen in college (I'm young, don't patronize me), he isn't very fast and he has a terrible shot. Also not that good at defense. So while he has great instincts, that can only get him so far. You can compare him to Kidd, but Kidd was pretty good at defense and generally a more well rounded player. Marshall is also about the same height as Kidd, but not near as strong. Obviously that's something that will probably improve in time, but I don't see him ever being as good as Kidd. Marshall is gonna be a great college player, but as of right now, I struggle to see how he will be that good in the pro's. Not to mention he also benefits from having one of the best big men in college in Tyler Zeller.....I don't get why people don't like him as a pro prospect btw, sure he needs to improve his strength but has great post moves and is a good floor runner, and a very good shooter in Barnres. So in short, Marshall is a good college player, but needs a lot of work to even be a marginal starter in the NBA.

Actually with Zeller scouts have warmed up to him a lot. Could go top 20 now.

Anyone else think Jan Vesely would look good at PF next to AJ? Watching his highlights, he looks really athletic. He also has a confidence (cocky) that shows he believes in his abilities.

If we walked away with Brandon Knight and Jan Vesely, I would be very happy! I know everyone is hoping for Kanter, but he reminds me too much of Koufos.

Two things have been driving me nuts on the board. People insisting we need a 5 when Favors is that 5. And the love for Kanter. Holy God the dude's a stiff.

The love for Vesely is far worse than the love for Kanter. At least Kanter has an NBA position.

Based on what? His domination of Sullinger? A lot of people called Love a stiff to. I guess that is why he is not on the Grizzlies right now.

Is your question in regard to Favors or Kanter? I'm assuming the latter. If so, that's fine. Sullinger's going to be a stiff too.

Based on what?
The same highlights everyone has watched. Dude has a solid base, great upper body strength, and nice touch on his J and around the basket. He should be a good rebounder as soon as he hits the NBA. Whether he can defend at the next level is another question, but he doesn't look like a completely useless player.

Vesely, on the other hand, can run and jump...and...well...

He doesn't have the strength to guard the 4 or the quickness to guard the 3.

Garbage.

yeah, I was becoming interested in Vesely until I looked a little closer. He's cocky, I'll give ya that - but I've soured on him.

Until I hear something more concrete about his knees I'm still riding the Kanter train. Jazz will need top 3 to maybe get Barnes. I'm actually not sure who I like better for the Jazz between Kanter and Barnes.

Irving
Barnes
DWill2
Brandon Knight

Gotta pray the Jazz can land one of these guys with their first pick.

Also, Jonas Valanciunas looks like a far better prospect than either of the other Euros projected to go in the lottery. Great hands, great size, HUGE upside (which is what sets him apart from Kanter, who looks like a finished product).

I'll have to revisit Jonas. I know DX rates him the second best prospect in the draft. His length should make him a defensive force, but his skinny frame has me spooked. At least Kanter is thick and has an offensive game. But I guess I better give Jonas a second look, or 5th rather.

Unfortunately, Jonas apparently does have a pretty big buyout. Vesely is apparently determined to come over. He plays for one of the lower budget teams in Europe.
