Well he's not saying they aren't allowed to protest or anything. He's just saying it's an odd sort of protest when he was legitimately elected by your fellow countrymen. I mean this is literally democracy at work, what do they want to achieve? Redo the election until they get what they want?
 
Kind of pointless. One thing I would like to see is a push to get rid of the electoral college and go to straight popular vote. Voter turnout in this country sucks, and a big reason is because people know that in a lot of cases, their vote just doesn't count. Popular vote makes every vote count and every voice heard.

Plus we could stop electing losers who get elected on the technicality of an outdated system.

Yes, I support them 100%. Let's face it, the vast majority of people on here are white males. You're so brave and empathetic from your warm homes and computers. People are really scared and hurting. They have to have a way to get some sort of power back for themselves. They're not going to just say, "Cool, have at our country, Gargoyle." Many minorities woke up to extreme fear and disbelief. Muslims are afraid to wear the hijab, clutching their children close and constantly looking over their shoulder, feeling more isolated than ever. What would you do if you were legitimately worried for your child? Only a parent understands this. Welcome to Trump's America.

Do protests make people feel safer?
 
That's the thing I wonder. usually protests are hoping to change something. What do they really think is going to change?
 
They're doing it because they feel powerless. This empowers them. This is a part of the healing process, and it may last for a long time. Trump represents horrible, horrible things for the majority of this country (see Clinton's popular vote victory). Many minorities are very afraid, see post above. Now people are forced to accept Trump and what he stands for. The feeling is visceral. They or a friend may have experienced sexual assault first-hand, they may have a connection to Islam, they may be Latino, they may be any other minority that has been crapped on by Trump. Whatever the reason, these people are really hurting and feel strength together. The white males are scratching their heads. Signing out...

If you read anything I wrote about Trump before the election you'd know that I have a pretty strong dislike for him and the way he ran his campaign. But I'm able (yes, in my suburban white privileged life) to compartmentalize the campaign from who he may or may not be as President.

I certainly respect the right of the people to protest, and I get that they are having an emotional reaction to the outcome of the election, but I don't support the idea of protesting a President-elect. Let him take the office and let's see what he does. He's not campaigning anymore. I think he knew he needed the racists and the misogynists in his corner to get elected, but he doesn't really need them now. He doesn't really gain anything from pandering to them now and unless he really does have some strong racist views I doubt he'll go out of his way to give them the America they were hoping for.

But we'll see. If he actually builds the wall you can come with me when I go to bring it down. If he tries to register Muslims you can come with me as I protest that.
