geography challenge

Well I had one where it put me in a small US town. No definable characteristics anywhere (so I assumed midwest), but within like 20 seconds I found a school that had the town name (forgot it) and the state (Iowa).

That's fair game, for sure. I found a billboard with something for Ft. Lauderdale. Zoomed in on the guessing location and was 900 yards off, once. Easy to get U.S. close.

EDIT: As a challenge, would be interesting to have a time limit for each guess.

Guess when you live in a ****ty country like Canada you must spend a lot of days thinking about other countries.

I am a social studies teacher. I mean, you're not shocked that your mechanic knows every car part or that Ron Jeremy knows his way around a vagina.

I got ~130 on geography game (ran out of time, could've done better), only to find out that the average score is 165. Really hard to believe. You probably need 30 average Americans to come up with 165 countries.

I think if you play against another person, you can set a time limit.

Another game I've always considered quite similar (because they suck up a lot of time) is https://thewikigame.com/speed-race where you are given two wikipedia pages and you have to navigate from one to the other just using the links on each page.

I did a lot worse than I thought I would have. Spelling was one of my biggest issues, I tried to type "check republic," doh. I'm typing netherlands and it didn't give it to me so I keep trying only to finally look and see that I already got it. Way worse on the north African coast than I should have been and I'm looking at Somalia and just blanking on the name. Missed a bunch of the "stans"

It's not very hard to, either. Just pull up Google Maps.

It's like when my dad, a former tournament chess player, discovered online chess. Didn't take him very long to realize a lot of the players were simply putting his moves into one of many excellent chess video games and simply playing whatever the game told them to.

I know, right. I mean, I got Djibouti ffs. No way the average person can come up with 30 more countries than me. ****ers googled a list of countries then copied/pasted.

Like Gameface, I wasted time unsuccessfully trying to spell some countries. I couldn't figure out the spelling for Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Lichtenstein, and a couple of others.

The average is skewed by people who are good at it and take it multiple times. For the past 4 days I've been getting 196s -- I'm just trying to improve the amount of time remaining.

I'm way better at filling in the names on a map. Just giving me a blank screen and come up with names...not so much.

I didn't have trouble with spelling (except Guiana)-- i just kinda blanked with a lot of the atlantic coast African nations. I've never spent any time learning about African history and geography so I'm not surprised that the Senegeal/Sierra Leone/Ghana area all the way down to Namibia had me stressin. I still had most of Africa though.

Missing the Philippines might have been my most embarrassing omission.

I got 142... missed a lot due to incorrect spelling, knew how the country is called and where it is but could not for crying out loud figure out how to spell it in English.. Ones like Tajikistan, Djibouti, Ecuador got me stuck and wasting time.... On he other hand I forgot Ireland, Switzerland and Vatican city ( facepalm)

West African geography and history has had a huge impact on your cultural milieu. I'd be embarrassed if I were you. Deeply.

Goeguessr was fun. Got 15k points:)

I went to bed late last night playing that. US residential areas are easiest; tons of flags, and I'm familiar with the flora of each region. Sweden seems big on flags too. Russia is distinct, but HUGE. I could tell that something is in central Asia or Siberia, but given how large it is, I'm often 700km+ off. My worst guess was guessing France when it was actually Montreal.

Really fun game.
