What's new

Read this blog and comments. Pretty sad stuff.

Also, one of my former teachers says that they accused student never stepped within twenty feet of the accuser, that what looked like the "hail Hitler" salute happened during the student's dance routine (one of the biggest parts of the Spirit Bowl is the class dance off) and was nothing more than the dancers reaching out their arms (they did it with both arms), the "hood" was a pillowcase clearly made for the spirit bowl which didn't even cover his face, AND the student went to the media before ever saying anything to the administration. This is nothing more than a kid looking for a little bit of retaliation and attention.

Are you sure? Because if you're not, I wouldn't say that.

Man, I got a lot of neg rep for making this thread. I guess we should brush stuff like this under the rug and pretend it doesn't happen.

Crazy. Did you hear that most mormons have multiple wives?

You should start a thread about that. Utah sucks.

Racists and Womanizers. Good stuff.

Hard to believe.

If I had my way, everyone in the country would know about stupid **** like this.

That way, they could all just assume we were all racist D- bags. Cool.

So some mexican got pissed because he felt like he was being picked on by some richer and more popular white kids. So he lies about a spirit bowl celebration, doesn't tell anyone other than his father, and is now blogging about it.

Yet, no one else reported this.... Right? No one else saw this happen? I know spirit bowls can be loud, but no one else noticed this? Or saw the KKK hood? Or the nazi Salutes? Only this ONE kid? And everyone in the school was against him, right? No one in class noticed the joking? No adult saw any of this happening?

yawn

tell me when this is over. This kid needs a good hard kick in the ***. Daddy aint gonna save your butt forever. Grow a thicker skin (sometimes *gasp* you're gonna be teased in life/not be as possible as other people), get some friends, and grow up.

I've talked to four former teachers, one of the guidance counselors, and a handful of different students. It's pretty much the consensus within the school. The principal and head assistant were suspended for "failing to act accordingly" despite suspending the student, and the rest of the faculty and administration is calling for the head of the District Reps who made the move without putting forth any real investigation. The administration did everything they could to weather the storm despite the student and his father going straight to the media. This is outrageous a little bit. I'm sure the accused was in the wrong and definitely deserved punishment, but there was nothing more than your typical high school hazing involved. I trust the word of the people I've talked to.

One last thing, I grow tired of whites always being made out to be the bullies. Have any of you actually gone to a SL High School? The bullies aren't the whites, they're the polys and Mexicans! The polys just destroyed a kid from Cottonwood last year in the bathroom. He was only a sophie for their Football team and suffered a broken leg and a torn ACL I believe... So although Alta may be a lil richer and whiter than other schools, I doubt it's this Alabama KKK infested Christian racist school that this punk is trying to portray.

Have you read any of the comments on the kid's blog?

After reading two different perspectives on this, I'm torn which side I should take. Maybe I won't take a side. Don't know.

Maybe the kid is blowing things out of proportion. Maybe he is doing it for attention. Or maybe, he really was offended by something he has absolutely every right to be offended about. Bottom line is racism exists and effects people differently. How much can we say when we've never grown up in someone elses' shoes? At the very least, I hope this incident educates the ignorant.

You wouldn't last 30 seconds with me, guy. For real though, you wouldnt. One leg and all. Unless you're talking about kicking my *** at poker then I am in trouble, but probably not. I'm coming with vengence.

This. If you haven't read his blog, gtfo.

So if I hadn't read the comments, the fifteen or so people that I talked to that were there, including faculty and friends I've known since I was a kid become irrelevant. I don't get it. I read the comments (not all of them, because frankly I have better things to do) and however sad and unfortunate they may be, many of them aren't any different than people on here trying to stir the pot. People like IJM who pulls countless things out their asses and hopes to God that they might be right, internet tough guys, people who are just looking to to continue the conversation, people who pretend to be someone they're not to gain credibility (hell, you could even accuse me of this right now) but the point is, I'm going to trust the people that I've had first hand experiences with and that I know were there over any comment stream on a blog. What happened to Larz was unfortunate, whether it was perceived as something more than it was or not, the kid finds himself in a messed up situation, but it was his fault that it was escalated the way it was. He reached for attention instead of trying to resolve the problem within the school and it resulted unjustly in multiple people's punishment. McKay deserved to be punished regardless, because he IS a bully, but accusing him of dressing up as a member of the KKK (during what was essentially an all white costume party) and saluting Hitler (during a dance routine) is a pretty far reach. Anyway, back to my original point, telling me to "gtfo" when I have the only sources that aren't from an online blog just because I hadn't read a comment stream (which I had) seems pretty stupid to me.

I agree with most of this. You make some good points.

I have two sisters that go to Alta that have told me things contrary to what you've told me, so I think that kind of messes with my perception as well. Plus, my sisters know McKay and he's in their ward.

Oh, the "gtfo" wasn't supposed to be read in a serious tone. Just me being me.
