2016 NBA Season Notes/Info

Koufos is playing MArc Gasol almost to a standstill thus far in this one. Dunno why people think Gasol is better than Rudy..

Because Gasol was singlehandedly carrying a roster that's got less depth than the Kings in the absence of key contributors to a 8-2 record and is a ****ing awesome on both ends of the floor.

Man this issue with Cousins is being investigated by the NBA now. The Editor/VP of the Bees has written another damning article about the whole incident including a footage:

My bet is Cousins is getting traded soonish. There is no way he's back in Sactown with the bad blood between the local media and potential backlash from local fans about this incident.

This is escallating though.

The trade isn't going to happen because he spends his energy on fighting with journalists.
He'll get traded because his contract expires in 2018 or he has a player option then.
The team as a whole is going nowhere, so you just try again and get assets.

Well yeah of course it's a combination of all those things. This latest scuffle could be the straw that broke the camel's back is what I'm saying.

That Sac. Bees' editorial piece said 1 thing that stood out to me, the editor said that this team is Sacramento's team not only by name, but also because the taxpayers have literally 'paid' to build the new Golden1 Arena, and so to me the stake is higher than ever before there.

I'm pretty sure Vivek doesn't care that public money played a role. If he lives out his welcome, he still owns the building. He can move to the other end of the world and sell the team+arena that the taxpayers built for him.
And if he doesn't own it, then he'll sell the rights to have dibs on every calendar date and he's probably not paying any rent anyways in this case.

Why would he do all that when it's easier to just trade Cousins?

It makes no sense. Cousins doesn't want to play there, we know that for a fact. The team has failed to make the playoffs every sing year since he's been drafted.

Both camp should just move on.

Human beings do not act rational 100% of the time. Trading him can cause different backlashes.

I agree

So if you were the Kings GM what would you do?

Yeah, Kings will trade Cousins and rebuild (if such a fail franchise can manage that). That's much more likely than the owner throwing a hissy fit and selling.

Then again, I hope he sells, because he's terrible.

If I was the Kings GM Cousins would be untouchable and I'd start tanking immediately. They've gotta stay in the bottom-10 to keep their pick, that's top priority. If their lucky one of UK's guards will be on the board...

I'd try to pry some picks or young players for Gay. I'd field offers for WCS, Temple, Barnes, Collison, McLemore. Ideally I could get a late 1st or 2 and some early 2nds.

then we go for the playoffs full push in 2017-2018, with a young team thats good enough to convince DMC to stick around..

Gotta find some sort of vet to sign that could help in the lockerroom too. Oh come to think of it I'd sign Joe Ingles....

Problem is the following: If you tank super hard, Sixers can swap this year. If you're mediocre, a 11 or higher pick would go to the Bulls. In 2019 their pick goes to the Sixers - unrestricted. So long term tanking doesn't work either. Kings are basically ****ed.

Let them swap picks then, as long as it's not lost. It'll still be in range for Isaac or Tatum. That roster can be overhauled completely before the 2018-2019 season.

If some of those rotation players get moved for expirings/2nds and they take in a nother big crop of rookies. they've got cap flexibility. So if $$ and picks are spent wisely they can make plenty of progress, to the point of a young dangerous team, quicker than expected.

I mean it makes some sense to tank for the '17 and '18 drafts. But let's be honest, a top 2-5 '17 pick is very unlikely to contribute big time to winning in '19 on a shaky roster with an unstable owner, gm and franchise player. The high '18 pick even less in his rookie season. So you need free agency support as well. Quality free agents will try to avoid Sacto like a STD.
So it's down to making too high bids(at the time) for restricted guys that randomly explode, overpaying for unrestricted free agents that randomly up their game a ton or Boogie making a U-turn personality wise and using USAB to recruit quality guys.
If I'm the GM all those 3 options are a needle in a haystack, especially the 3rd.
Boogie expires in '18. How likely is it that he wants to stick around and find out if those lottery picks pan out? How likely is it that under the new CBA the Kings can offer him a 5 yr extension or sth that he accepts next summer?
That's why I'm pro trade him for additional assets. You get the high '17 and '18 picks anyways. You can still overpay restricted and unrestricted FAs and gamble that one is a steal.
You don't have the headache of losing Boogie for nothing and you got another 2-3 (lottery?) picks on top of that.
