What's new

Favors and our offense

The problem is that Lyles isn't ready, and Diaw is too old to start. FA market doesn't show much for players who are better than Lyles and affordable. Who are we gonna be able to trade for that's affordable?

True statement but Lyles doesn't need to be ready until the end of next year when Favors contract runs out.

I still maintain Lyles is ahead of where Hayward was at this point in Gordon's second year so he had plenty of time to approach his ceiling.

Regardless, if The Jazz somehow manage to re-up both GH and GH this offseason, Utah will let Favors contract expire out after next year and Lyles will be the starting 4 - for better or worse.

I love favs he is one of my favorite players and want him on the Jazz long term but there is one trade that would instantly make the Jazz better

Favs, burks for cousins and say WCS and or mclemore

Cousins can aactually shoot the 3. He is a beast in the low post. There is enough leadership on this team to keep him in line beside winnign hides a lot of flaws

lets see GSW match up with

Hill, Mack
Hood, Exum
Hayward, Johnson, Ingles
Cousins, Lyles
Gobert, WCS or Diaw

Lyles needs to lock himself in the !@#$@#$ gym and shoot Js. he gets open looks but can't hit the jumper on a consistent basis. He is about the least effective shooter on the team.

Doing pretty well without them, so make your case.

We have been better with Favors than not this season and he has yet to play anywhere near full strength. The same will be true with Burks.

I posted this and more in the other thread about this.

This season Favors and Gobert have played 131 minutes together and put up 109.4 off rating and 94.7 def rating

Agree that he has not been full strength. Not sure about being better with him though. He certainly has not contributed much lately when we have gone 11-2. I think he was pretty good on the 4-1 road trip though.

But that still begs the question of his fit. Does his game fit the current makeup of the team? Just look at Rudy now on offense, do you want to take dunks from him and give FAvs 18 footers instead?

Ill just give you the full thing I posted in the other thread.

Last year Jazz had an off rating of 106.4 when Gobert and Favors played together and def of 102.2. That is without any PG play and both of them playing through injuries. This year our off rating is at 108.3 for the season and the def is at 100.8. The year before they struggled together offensively post all-star break but put up crazy good def rating of 92.5. This season Favors and Gobert have played 131 minutes together and put up 109.4 off rating and 94.7 def rating which are both much better than the teams season average. Favors and Diaw this season by the way are putting up 139.7 off rating and 96.9 def rating but that is only in 23 minutes of playing together. Rudy and Diaw are 111 off rating and 100.4 defensive rating in their minutes together this season. Rudy and Lyles are 111 off and 103 def this season.

Favors has been our second best player for a couple years. Hayward and Gobert both stepped up this season there is no reason to think Favors wont step up as well when he gets healthy. Favors was close to our best player at the start of last season before he got injured. Favors was our second best offensive weapon next to Hayward and I think he will be this season. Favors was our second best defender next to Rudy and will be this season. Although Gobert is better at defending the rim Favors is better at almost every other part of defense.

Statistically we are better this year with Favors. The 2 man lineup of Favors and Gobert is our 2nd best this season of the big men next to Favors and Diaw. But I dont think Favors Diaw can keep up the crazy high numbers they put up.

Favors can post up and pass out of the post. That is needed in our offense and we lack it right now. Favors is a good mid range shooter. I think Favors could shoot the 3 as well as Diaw is this season. Favors is a good slasher. Favors often demands a double team. That spaces the floor better than anything. Favors is great in the pick and roll. He passes out of that position well. People have forgotten how good Favors is when fully healthy. He also greatly improves our defense.

Straight up mate. You saw how much attention he got on that low block last game? They ain't doubling Diaw like they are Favors an he is still not 100%.

It's not that he's unneeded. I would love to keep him. However if I have to choose between Favors and a good PG, and it looks like we might have to, I'm choosing a PG.

If you have any thoughts of moving on from Favors or Burks, you look to package them together for a young guy with star potential. Throw draft picks into the equation, and go as big as you can. The Jazz can live without them, but there's no sense in giving up on two young, talented players (on great contracts) without getting a King's ransom in return. Anything short of that, and you keep them until you can't afford to do so anymore.

That instantly destroys the team chemistry and ****s up this franchise for years to come. Cousins is not a winning player.

I think there are enough strong people on this team to keep him in line. I think part of his head problems is 1 being in a crappy franchise and 2 losing all the time
I think his head problems is 1 being an infant unable to help himself and 2 being a negative whinny little bitch. I don't want that kind of player around a young roster. Hell I don't want that kind of player, at all. I wouldn't trade Favors for Cousins straight up.
