What's new

Hayward is gone

Who is way overpaid and would cripple the jazz going forward with his huge contract? Hint, it's not even close. (How them mavs doing with barnes running the show anyway?)

He's really not way overpaid and it really wasn't a horrible idea. At worst it was a mediocre idea and he's slightly overpaid. It's probably much more in the realm of a great idea though and he's getting paid market-value.. Hed have been able to fill in for Hayward and Favors, and provides some insurance for if either walk.

The Mavs are doing exactly what they aim to do which is tank.

If Hayward walks and Otto Porter is still on the market they'd be smart to try and offer him enough $$ that the Wizards wouldn't match, which is in that realm of Barnes dollars.

Maybe the difference of a max starter v an 11 million role player.

I'd take Hood and Hayward over Barnes.

Barnes averages more points per possession in Iso than Hood and on the 4th highest volume in the league only behind Harden, Westbrook and Melo (and Barnes scores more points per possesion than all of them including 5th place LeBron James).

Check it out. It's kinda remarkable.

Good for Barnes. Utah isn't an ISO oriented team. Barnes is not worth the max and limits Utahs cieling going forward. No.

We create favourable mismatches and try to isolate those mismatches. It's one of the reasons our offense is better with Hill and Barnes would probably help as well.

Not that I would give him the max.

They could've still afforded to pay Hill(20MM) and Hayward(27MM) and had next seasons salary around 120MM. The Jazz have the 4th cheapest roster in the league they could've easily afforded him this season. I don't see how he limits their ceiling going forward, Favors is the only one that gets affected and if they want to keep him, Barnes would've easily been tradeable by next years deadline to clear space for that.. there's room for Hood to get market $$.

If you Swap Joe Johnson and Diaw for Barnes and they keep a player like Chris Johnson for the extra roster spot. The Jazz go from the 27th most expensive roster to.. wait for it.. the 26th..

If they signed him ontop of Johnson and the Diaw trade they'd go from 27th most expensive to about 12th or 13th..

They won't by next season...Hayward, Hill and Favors are up for extensions/new contracts. Gobert will be on his new deal. Hood will be do an extension...

No to Barnes. No matter how you pitch it. Not for the max. No way.

Hood is restricted if he's the only one on the Market in the summer of 2018 they can match no matter what. If the Cap is up to 120MM by then it's not an issue, they'll be able to keep salaries somewhere in the 130's range. If Burks walks in the summer of 2019 they'd have room for a nice raise for Lyles too.

they've got the draft picks in place already to fill out the roster cheaply to 15..

Okay capologist geeks, please break down the Hayward situation under new CBA. What can we offer him (with and without all-NBA)? What can others offer him? dollars and years.

Just because Barnes is a slightly above average player (better than Joe Johnson) doesn't mean you max him. It could throw a big wrench in the Jazz plans 3 years from now. Teams will swoop like vultures on Hood and Lyles knowing the Jazz won't be able to swallow a poison pill. It also means the Jazz can't absorb salary as part of a trade. Right now the Jazz could trade a 6 million player for a 20 million player if they wanted. So if a team is doing poorly and has a fire sale the Jazz will be in good position to cash in. Miami (Dragic), Washington (Beal), Phoenix (Bledsoe), Minnesota (Rubio), are some potential firesalers later this year we could absorb and probably all help us more than Barnes.

I'm still big on Barnes. We should have taken a chance on him. His ability to play PF would make us so dangerous. It would make Favors expendable, but I personally think Favors isn't part of the long haul. He just does not fit next to Gobert long term. Wings and PGs run this league. Maxing 2 bigs who can't shoot is bad business.

Barnes would be the same player here that he was on Golden State. An OK shooter who can play some D, rebound, and create a little bit for himself. Not sure how much trade value he would gain while maxed here.

Really think he'd have flourished and would be in the 6th man convo.. Especially considering the injuries, he'd have patched many holes and he's good enough defensively to shade attackers towards Rudy.

One of the key things which i repeated many times was that there's still room for improvement, which early on certainly looks true.

To offensive minded people maybe. But there is something that we do have with both of them is an amazing defense. And you make it sound like Favs can't shoot from outside. He's not the shooter Lyles is. But Lyles isn't close to what he is on defense. I will take Favs mid game to Lyles non defense / non rebounding game every day of the week. If it's a money issue than you think about trading Favs. But not as you say he doesn't work with Gobert.

Guys, stop these posts about Hayward. Even if he doesn't have it on mind, he will read your posts and the worm will enter his brain to eat it slowly until he will go to GSW as a 6. Man

How many 6th man candidates make max money right now?

Hayward has a home in SCAL. He's going to the Lakers, who have one of the best young coaches in the league. Book it!

Jk...I think he'll re-sign with Utah (if that's what his beautiful wife wants).
