Cool thread. Gonna read thru this later. I have a bad habit of reading up/watching documentaries on this sorta stuff and not following up.
I tell people all the time "Meditation is about finding well-being in the moment" which I do quite well, also do some breathing techniques everyonce in a while but thats about it.
mediation helps with gambling, fyi.
I've just dabbled here and there, but am working on a more regular practice. I hope it does for me the things it is doing for you. Thanks for the encouragement.Bumping this thread
I have been meditating everyday now for about a month. In December I was able to finally establish a consistent practice and it has made a meaningful difference in my life; I mediated over 1,000 minutes. A few observations from my meditation practice thus far, things I did not expect.
1-It's become much easier for me to do things I found hard before. I'm sure you are asking What I mean exactly. Well, it's always been hard for me to maintain healthy eating habits, and perhaps more importantly, abstain from unhealthy eating habits. Meditation has brought a centeredness to my life that I have been missing for a long time. It's easy now to not only commit to easting healthy, but also follow through. This last week for example, I ate broccoli and nuts for lunch 3 times and it was easy to do. In the past there was a good chance lunch would have rolled around and I would have thought "Broccoli for lunch? hell no! Gonna run and grab a burger. It's not like that anymore. A skeptic might read that and think, well the experience is new for you. Once it loses the luster of newness, it will change. Thats also been my experience in the past too. But viscerally I don't see it that way. I feel anchored in away I find subtly incredible.
It sounds crazy, right? truthfully though It's been easy doing things I know I should now that I have been meditating everyday. I didn't expect to see these results or even any results this fast but this is what has happened thus far. I feel centered and at times I felt more in peace with life and who I am than I have in a long time. I don't know that it will help everyone, but I think it might and if you have not tried establishing a mediation practice, I would recommend it. I think you'll be surprised quickly how it impacts you.
2- The second thing I've noticed is I feel more skillful in my relationships with others. Perhaps most of that stems from the fact that I have more appreciation for other people in my life. it's like I am more aware of their essence and I'm more equipped to feel grateful for that essence and how it brings color to my life. I don't know how exactly to convey this adequately. It's like relationships feel like more of a spiritual practice to me now. I feel a greater desire to nourish those I am close to. Its not something I think but more of an experience I have viscerally. I also feel more connected to others and I'm still trying to figure out how that is.
There have been some other subtle things I've noticed but I want to keep meditating and see if those things become more pronounced over time. Meditation is certainly becoming a part of who I am. At this point I don't think I'll ever stop mediating because after just a month I am experiencing life in a more meaningful way.
I've just dabbled here and there, but am working on a more regular practice. I hope it does for me the things it is doing for you. Thanks for the encouragement.

I just started with Sattva on your recommendation. I've been doing random YouTube videos so it will be nice to be more organized. Do you meditate morning or evening or both?

I'm gonna try this.I meditate both morning and night. My morning session is very structured. I have to be to work by 7:00, so I wake up around 5:30 have a cup of coffee and get ready and then meditate for about 25 mins. Love starting my day this way; It pays dividends and makes it even easier to meditate later on when I get off. I wasn't actually able to maintain a regular practice till I started meditating in the morning. This has been the most effective way for me. Becoming one of the best parts of my day. I often feel completely at peace when I get to work.
I've been meditating every morning and most evenings since December 31. I have an incurable and untreatable chronic illness that leaves me feeling poorly most of the time, and I've been rather cranky because of it. I had a really good weekend where I felt as well as I can feel, plus I was feeling hopeful and calm and not so easily irritated. I realized last night that it just might be the meditation, since nothing else has changed. If that is the reason, that's pretty amazing that I'm seeing these kinds of results in just a few days.
I'm doing a short (5-10 min) meditation in the mornings during the week (longer on weekends), and then a longer one in the evenings (I did the first Sattva one last night for 18 min). I'm rather excited about this. Who knows? Maybe I'll try yoga next.![]()
I'm gonna try this.
I'm always up way before I need to be at work anyway and use my time poorly. Meditation could take that time and maybe be beneficial apparently.
Plus I will be better at gambling.
Will do.You should consider just like meditating every morning for 2 weeks. I'd bet (no pun intended) by the end of the two weeks you'd feel it is beneficial in some way.
Tom Pitt do you have any videos or literature explaining the best/proper way to meditate? You should consider just like meditating every morning for 2 weeks. I'd bet (no pun intended) by the end of the two weeks you'd feel it is beneficial in some way.
