2011 draft.....

Re: the Jazz' chances of drafting Barnes.

In order to get him this year the Jazz need a top 3 pick. Possible but the odds are against them.

If Barnes returns to UNC for his sophomore season and enters the 2012 draft, this could be just as good as the Jazz' chances to draft him this year.
Why? Because the draft will be stronger next year, so more players will be competing for the top picks. Plus, most players who return to school are up against expectations of lofty improvement. Failure to wow people with your improvement often causes a prospect's draft position to fall. Barnes will improve but how much is the question? GMs may see his ceiling more accurately and instead reach for the unknown potential of some raw kid (remember how many were drooling over Hassan Whiteside last year?). So Barnes will be a more known quantity, which makes him less of a gamble, ie: less sexy. The Jazz have the Warriors' pick next year (top 7 protected) which I'm guessing will be around 8 - 11 (based on Golden States usual draft position).

I think Barnes could easily fall here. So upon further reflection the Jazz may have an equal or better chance of drafting Barnes next year as this year.

Silver lining for those still enamored of Harrison Barnes. I guess we'll know more when the announcement comes Tuesday.

One must have faith in the bouncing of the ping pong balls. There is also the trade both picks and move up in the draft route. Is your name from the college in Massachusetts by any chance?

I mentioned him a couple times for the 12th pick. He would be a steal at 12, but I doubt he lasts that long. Some draft's have had him anywhere from 4-11

We want him in the draft even if we cant get him. If he is there, that means someone else is dropping another spot to us.

Colorado's Alec Burks -- whom one assistant general manager thinks could also play some point guard in the NBA -- has a mid-range game that is a rarity among guards these days.

"What he'll have to work on is to be a threat at the 3-point line so the rest of his game will be just as effective," a Southeast Division personnel man said. "He's good at the one-two [dribble] and pull up, and he's good at the rim. He scores with trickery and not with the bounce. He doesn't have that last dribble like Jason Richardson, where he just takes a step and he's going to dunk on anybody. (But) when the shot clock is going down and all the coaches are yelling 'red!,' you can get the ball to Alec Burks, and he's going to manuever and get a shot. And that's highly valued in the NBA."

Scouts are less than impressed with Burks’ defense.

"He has no interest," the first Northwest scout said of Burks. "He won't go under, through, or behind (screens). He's got some issues. But we draft on talent, and he's very talented. He'll have the ball and he'll break you down. In space, he's (tough) ... great upside if he's willing to work. Something tells me (the work ethic) is not off the charts because he hasn't worked on his body at all. But the holes in his game are fixable."

Fix his holes and he is a possibility at pick 12.

Kemba Walker is doing his best CJ Miles impression. In fact Walker is looking more and more like a volume scorer. In other words do we need a less talented Allen Iverson?

No, but hopefully some other GM becomes enamored of him and drafts him in the top 5, sliding someone else down to the Jazz.

If Jeremy Lamb declares for the draft, I would love to see the Jazz take him at #12. He is a great shooting guard with great length and took over the second half for UConn. Would be a perfect fit at shooting guard for the Jazz, anybody agree with me?

I think the Jazz should guarantee Lamb a 12 pick to entice him enter. He is not an exceptionally athletic SG, but long as hell and a great shooter.

And I agree with the Lamb notions, possibly. The kid sure does look good, but are the UT wing and Alec Burcs not better?

North Carolina's Harrison Barnes, John Henson say NBA decisions coming soon
PUBLISHED 2 hours and 56 minutes ago

North Carolina's Harrison Barnes and John Henson both said they will make their decisions about their NBA future soon, according to The Daily Tar Heel.

During an on-campus pickup game, Henson told the university's student newspaper that he'll decided whether to enter the NBA draft or return for his junior season by Saturday. Barnes said he'll need a little more time than that.
Harrison Barnes still needs more time to decide if he will enter the NBA draft or return to North Carolina for his sophomore season.

“It’ll probably be in at least a week, week and a half or so,” Barnes told the newspaper. He also said he has not consulted with head coach Roy Williams yet.

Rumors spread around the internet late Sunday and early Monday that Barnes would return to Chapel Hill for his sophomore season after an Iowa radio personality said on his Twitter feed that Barnes was coming back.

Barnes, who was the ACC's Freshman of the Year, is a projected top-five pick in most mock drafts. Henson, who was named the ACC's Defensive Player of the Year, is projected as a lottery pick in some mocks.

After a slow start, Barnes averaged 15.7 points and 5.8 rebounds per game and averaged 21 points during Carolina's tournament run to the Elite Eight. Henson averaged 11.7 points and 10.1 rebounds and fell just short of a school single-season record with 118 blocks.

The paper did not get a comment from UNC center Tyler Zeller, who could also declare for the draft but was not present at the pickup game.

The deadline to declare for the draft is April 24.

I like Lamb but he is not a lottery pick at this moment. He is too skinny to have an impact, and he seems to be closer to 6'3" or 6'4" than the listed 6'5".
