Following potential 2017 draftees...

My pennies worth

I think briscoe can find a role in the NBA. He has to learn to take better shots. There have been some successful players with his type of athletism he seems to have a good work ethic.

He is not a first round pick.

BAM just isn't good enough offensively to play in the NBA. To many teams want their bugs to step out to the 3. He is a huge project at this point.

I loved watching JJ Frazier last night.

Watching through a lot of Briscoe highlights, I get what PKM dislikes about his atheleticism. It's weird though, in transition he's very dynamic. The below the rim style is very obvious in halfcourt possessions though. I think it could be because he's matched up with a lot of taller guys. I wonder how much time he spends on the wing and what the average height is he gives up in those matchups.
What I liked most about him is his left hand. Midway through the first clip I found myself wondering: "Is he shooting with his left or his right hand", because he did so many drives and shots around the basket with his left. Interesting skill.
His playmaking looks solid and he reminds me a little bit of Lowry in his style of play. Will be interesting to see how much he can develop and how he looks when he plays at the right spot in the pros.

Hey PG_AB, while you're here, who do you think the Jazz should pick at the #23-#24 range?

Is there a diamond in the rough that we could snatch ala Gobert or Hood in that range?

I have an answer for ya but pretty much my best answer is identical to the last time they had a pick in the 20's which is; that I'd hope to catch a falling top-20 player(Lydon, Anunoby, Kurucs, Hartenstein, Rob Williams) instead of finding a favorite in what that range seems to be. Which ofc ended up happening with Rodney..

There's a few players directly on that, seem to be top-25 - frige first rd, status I like though. I like players such as Jonathan Jeanne, Luke Kennnard, TJ Leaf, Bam's now in that range IMO, possibly Alec Peters or John Collins, maybe Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk or Mikal Bridges, and definitely Rui Hachimura who only gets 5 minutes for Gonzaga -- I'd DEFINITELY take him and his english isn't even good.. Michael Beasley type athlete... De'Anthony Melton, Felipe Dos Anjos, Drew Eubanks and Cameron Oliver are players I'd consider too.

I'm going to say Maryland's Justin Jackson, who's got a 7'3" wingspan and is shooting 46% from 3 on 3 attempts per. IMO he's good enough to keep the streak of Canadian 1st rd draft picks alive... He's been a completely different player of late and you can bet your *** Maryland is no easy tournament out... I've been hypinng him for a long time here and compared him to Draymond a long time ago (skillset wise, JJ doesn't have that attitude)

I'm gonna be spot on about the other Maryland 4* recruit I was hyping Huerter too. I'd actually take him with the 1st 2nd rd pick -- As I've said before he's better than Stauskas at the same stage.

With honorable mention to UL's So. PG/SG Donovann Mitchell and Miami's 6'4" Fr. CG Bruce Brown. (Next on the list would actually be Rui). I like Brown better than Rashad Vaughn from a few years back for sure, he outplayed Kennard in their last matchup and has a better build for defense. Mitchell is a well above avg athlete at the 1, some Marcus Smart to his game, always said that bout him -- His 3pt shot has really come along nicely.

If his athleticism is so poor how does he get to the FT line so much and rebound so much?

because being built like a bumper car as he is he seeks contact, it's also a formation of him at times being a ballhog/suffers from tunnel-vision..

Once he gets near the rim he stays there for rebounds that simply wont be available for him in the NBA.

3-star recruit De'Anthony Melton is such a better athlete, I swear thats the dude to take if you like Briscoe. He held Lonzo Ball to 4 assists and 7 turnovers in USC's upset win. I pointed him out here months ago and he continues to climb DX's mock with every update.

Want a dark horse pick no one here is talking about

Alec Peters

Yup, ideally you'd want him with the 1st 2nd rd pick tho..

If you really think about it they could put Peters behind Lyles, as long as the backup C can also flex to PF vs certain nightmare defensive matchups. They wouldn't be any worse than Lyles and Diaw..

I think that might be viable.

If the backup C is Bam (or a healthy Favors) it would work IMO. Certainly it'd add some more firepower.

This ofc would be completely ****ing unnecessary if they signed Harrison Barnes, who could've easily displaced Favors into strictly backup C duty while nursing his knee -- but I digress...

Add PSU's Fr. PG Tony Carr to the list of PG's I'd take over Briscoe, mentioned him here once before. In a triple OT loss to IU last night he had 23 5 rebs and 14 ast. Shooting 37% from 3 on the season he's 6'3". I'd take Jeremy Hemsley over him at this point but he's still on the radar for sure.

PGAB, i love that you're posting in this thread. If you do leave JF, don't leave this thread. I don't always agree with you and similar to others i think you overrate prospects in general, but i go out of my way- even risk getting sent to the doghouse by the missus- to watch guys you point out on here. You are sort of my personal college bball viewing guide.

Even tho its way too early to call, last year was an off year for me, even tho I'm rather convinced I had several things right and spotted a lottery worthy gem in Ivica Zubac way ahead of time -- Looking back thats who I'd have liked Utah to take 12th... I pointed out Malachai Richardson WAY, way before DX gave him any credit to possibly be in the 1st rd range similar to Zach LaVine...

My accuracy on the 4* prospects I point out ahead of time as future pro's like D'Angelo Russell, Robert Williams, De'Aaron Fox, Miles Bridges, Jonathan Isaac, Lauri Markkanen, Zion Williamson, Khavon Moore, Justin Jackson (MD) has been inordinately high.. I'm often not graded on such things around here - I was blowing the whistle that Markelle Fultz was underrated over a year ago when he was ranked in the 20's when PKM was saying the UK staff prefers Rawle Alkins.. that sorta stuff often flies over the heads of anyone who finds themselves on the opposite side of a debate with me here.. those are heavily weighted feathers in my cap as far as I'm concerned.

I wouldn't want to end it on a down note, I certainly learned way more lessons than I was anticipating in 2016, I've never claimed to be an expert or infallible I've called this an inexact science many times.. my approach is always that I'm learning...

Sucks to see people talking up Briscoe too when I get a moment to check in. Andrew Jones on Texas is miles better, really shifty and strong with a better shot and a way better finisher at the rim... Donovann Mitchell and Bruce Brown are also similarly miles better than Briscoe.

If that reported Suns-Kings deal goes thru with Cousins/Len+Warren I may just choose one of those teams and bail to their forums before the draft. For now I'll chime in here, not gonna find a new bandwagon til at least the lottery hits.

He looks interesting. I don't think he'll enter the draft though unless he generates mad hype. Looks like a guy for next year's draft and probably higher than 25-30 range I was discussing before if he continues to strengthen his late bloomer status.

USC has several prospects that are a crapshoot to declare for this draft. Elijah Stewart, Chemizie Metu, Melton and Bennie Boatright -- even McLaughlinn could test the waters. They have a sneaky good class with some possible NBA talent on the way next year too.

What are the odds that he actually declares/someone is already really interested in him? If you're under the radar your whole high school career to the degree that few NBA scouts even know your name and show nice flashes your rookie year within a limited role. Is he really going to get that first round promise that he should seek when he goes through the process.
