"He is no longer just the token Australian brought in to mentor Dante Exum,"
I alluded to this in a game thread a week ago and got a lot of flack for it particularly from the Aussie contingent, go figure.

That is something the media has claimed was the reason we picked up Inlges but that is the only proof of it. This statement in this article is again just something a media person is saying with no evidence of it. It might be true but the evidence against it is greater. The coaching staff connections and statements about him would indicate that Inlges and Exum being from Australia is just a coincidence and we picked him up because they liked him. I think the jump this season has made him more valuable to us and made the team appreciate him more. But Ingles was used quite a bit right away. He played just as many minutes right away as he is this season including starting 32 games. The big difference is Inlges spent more time this off season getting in shape and being healthier for this season and improving his release speed.
It's a stupid thing to think that the Jazz paid millions of dollars to bring in a player they don't intend to play only to mentor another player. They liked what they saw, and the mentorship angle was the icing on the cake.
I said the same and got the same reaction.

He was a hot commodity after the 2012 Olympics, and attracted a lot of interest.I know and despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary. Bounced around between Spain and Israel for the five years prior, playing Summer League for Golden State twice during that time period (never picked up), then all of a sudden he's a hot commodity at twenty seven years of age that we swoop in on after he's cut by the Clippers.

Ingles has discussed potential workouts for teams, and he also has lucrative offers from clubs wanting to keep him in Europe.
After averaging 15 points, five rebounds and 4.2 assists for Australia in the 2012 Olympics – including a 19-point, eight-rebound, six-assist effort against Team USA – Ingles had a strong close to the Spanish ACB season. He scored 25 points on five three-pointers against Real Madrid in the championship game.
Ingles, 25, spent the past three seasons with FC Barcelona.

Ingles has a strong possibility to sign in the NBA after a career overseas. He is unlikely to sign with the Philadelphia 76ers despite the connection to Brett Brown.
Ingles is playing with Australia in the World Cup.
RealGM reported last offseason that the Indiana Pacers, Milwaukee Bucks, Memphis Grizzlies and Los Angeles Clippers were showing interest in Ingles.

The Grizzlies have expressed interest for Ingles in the past, but it’s hard to say if they still do.
Ingles is a 6’8” Australian point forward, who has been playing exceptionally well in this year’s FIBA tournament. This has only furthered teams interest in the 26 year old, as he has garnered NBA attention before.
Ingles would be an especially good fit for Memphis due to his past history with Marc Gasol. According to ESPN’s Marc Stein:
"The Memphis Grizzlies are another team that has expressed interest in Ingles in the past. Ingles played at Barcelona with Grizzlies star center Marc Gasol, who is widely known to be one of Ingles’ biggest fans.
The Grizzlies also just waived Jamaal Franklin on Sunday to create a little more roster room, but Memphis has to keep an eye on where it is in relation to luxury-tax territory. The Griz, at present, are $1.2 million under the tax line. Ingles would cost them $915,000 next season, which would obviously put them in tax range."

Things could be complicated by the fact that Memphis just signed rookie guard Luke Hancock, but signing another player is still a possibility.
We’ll more than likely have to wait until the FIBA World Cup is over to see any activity regarding Ingles, but you never know, Memphis might find a way to strike a deal.
They weren't friends. And yes it was a coincidence, and the mentoring line was cooked up by ignorant media types who had never heard of Ingles, and is being repeated by a hack who hasn't done his homework. But hey, just ignore the fact Ingles was in the rotation from Day 1 after only one practice, and keep spinning the line his signing was nothing to do with his basketball ability in spite of the overwhelming evidence to the contrary.Of course the fact that he and Exum were friends and roommates on the Aussie National team and the fact that we cut Brock Motum to pick up Ingles had no bearing whatsoever, obviously sheer coincidence and some plot cooked up by the media.![]()
Eddie Palubinskas was drafted, but never played for the Jazz. And for extra credit points, name another Aussie that played for the Jazz, ever.
still don't know why ingles is not in 3 point contest. Did he decline?
Aaron Falk of the Salt Lake Tribune has more:
When he was asked the question this week, Joe Ingles didn't hesitate with his answer. Does the Utah Jazz forward have any desire to be in the 3-point contest at all-star weekend?
"They can put someone else in," he said. "I'll happily watch from the sidelines."
He was a hot commodity after the 2012 Olympics, and attracted a lot of interest.

Marc Gasol lobbied hard for the Grizz to sign Ingles, but they were financially hamstrung. There was even a report they offered him a two-year guaranteed contract, although Joe never received such an offer.
