Jazz @ Pelicans Game Thread

Two words. . . Chris Johnson. Thank the LORD those days are in the rear view mirror. This is a big reason why I advocated outbidding Miami when Joe Johnson was cut by Brooklyn last year. It'll be curious to see if the Jazz make moves at the trade deadline or after buyouts happen this year.
Wow!! Thanks, I had almost forgotten about that eye sore!!
Burks really hurting the Jazz offense.

No he didn't ya old fart!!

Going through the Ty Corbin regime makes me appreciate Quin Snyder and this team even more.

Not that I was ever a Ty Corbin fan, but it's not like DL gave him any bench. Lindsey wanted Ty out and set him up to fail. That was a train wreck of a team the final year. I doubt even Pops could have coaxed 5 more wins out of them.

They just stole the soul out of the Pelicans in the 2nd half.

One complaint I have about Quin, though it's not many, is why he doesn't play the scrubs way earlier. The Jazz were up 30+ points with 6 minutes left, on the first game of a back to back. Does he really think that a Withey/Lyles/Mack/Neto/Whoever lineup would lose them the game at that point?

Other than that, what can you say. I loved Exum's game today, but hell, who can you really complain about tonight. It was nice for them to not cover Joe Johnson at all either.

He had decent benches.

Derrick Favors
Enes Kanter
Richard Jefferson (key contribtuor on championship team)
CJ Miles (one of the better 3pt shooters in the NBA)
Marvin Williams
Alec Burks
Demarre Carroll
Rudy Gobert

He had some pretty good players on his bench through various points during his HC tenure.

I have the exact same complaint.

Lyles has a real lack of athleticism when driving to the rim. IDK if it's a ball-handling weakness, but he has no burst going to the rim to get around anyone and he isnt strong enough to bump people off him on drives.
We used to have another guy like that a few years ago. Think his name was something like Heywood.

Sorry if I was unclear. I referred to his last season.
When you cite Favors, Kanter and Williams as bench players, that was when Ty coached the team to the playoffs one season (36-30) and barely missed the next year (43-39).

Then DL took away the veterans, dumping Millsap, Big Al, Mo Williams, Foye. Ty was given a bench of Marvin Williams, a rookie Gobert (who often looked lost), Rush, Biedrins, JLIII, Jamaal Tinsley, Ian Clark, Jeremy Evans, etc. Richard Jefferson started, I believe. So let's say it was a team that had 5-6 decent players, no PG, and mostly garbage players behind the main 5. It was a 25-30 win team at best.

He didnt dump anyone. He just didnt sign them in FA.

Semantics.

By all accounts, almost all wanted to come back - from Paul to Big Al to DMC. When you're told you aren't part of the team's plans going forward, that's being "dumped." And that's the message that was conveyed to at least Al and Mo.

Everyone's willing to come back if you pay them enough.
