2011 draft.....

Still draft BPA. If it's a PG, then so be it.

I know draft guys feel Derrick Williams is a four in the league, but man, I like the idea of him on this team starting at small forward.

Looks a bit like Carmello Anthony, who is big enough to play PF, but has the speed and skill to play at SF

Get ****ing real. You can afford to have a Steve Kerr/Derek Fisher when you have Michael Jordan/Kobe Bryant. Or Tim Duncan and David Robinson or Ginobili/Parker at the same time. Do you see anyone of that calibre or in that mold in this draft? If you say you do, you're lying or star-eyed and dreaming.

Irving is both BPA and fills our greatest position of need (ballhandler/creator for others that can use possessions efficiently, a total prodigy, and leader). Williams is the only other player in this draft that plays an efficient game against good competition and shows the grit and fundamentals necessary to win. The rest of the field is a crap-shoot.

Irving's going #1 or #2 at the least. We can argue about spending a top 10 pick on a PG after the Jazz get one of those picks.
I don't think Knight is good enough for a top 10 pick.

It looks like there will be a lot of good pg's and sg's in next years draft. We will probably have 2 lottery picks next year. I say go after Kanter, Perry Jones, and next year draft both a sg and pg. I would love to get Marshall next year as are point of the future.

Dumb post.

So the people who say the Jazz should draft some Euro dude (Jan Vesely, Enes Kanter, Donatas Motiejunas, Jonas Valanciunas etc) over top American college players base their decision on what? Mock drafts?

Pray tell, what have you seen from Kendall Marshall that makes you think he'll be a good PG at the next level? Now I'm not saying he's a bad college player, but I wanna hear what you have to say.....what makes you think he'll be anything more than a back up here?

Fair enough, and I'm not sold on Knight either.

He set NC assist record for a single game? Or some kind of assist record. Also, when NC inserted him into the starting lineup, the teams performance sky rocketed. He also has good height for a PG, 6'3. His offensive game seems limited though, if he could improve that I think he will be a good lottery pick.

Yeah, it's the hope of the unknown. They haven't been tarnished. That's why the Mirotic kid interests me. He's performing for a top European team. The other guys will need to really impress in workouts, but that's another problem. A) Anybody can look good in a workout playing 1 on 1 or 2 on 2. B) A number of them will primarily workout against each other which kind of cancels the benefit. To draft them high, you really have to have done your homework scouting them previously.

He's a good college player. He has excellent vision. Great, great passer. But he's slow as hell. And he can slightly get away with it at the college level because of his vision. However on defense he's a liability. He also has a terrible shot. Terrible mechanics and a terrible percentage, and that's with people laying off of him. Now before you go and compare him to Jason Kidd like everybody else always does, lets not forget that Kidd is taller, probably 30-40 pounds heavier/stronger, faster, quicker, and better. Marshall is a great college PG but he will not be a good NBA starting PG.

I dont understand everyone's obsession with Kanter. What makes him better than Jefferson? From what Ive read/seen he is basically a Euro Jefferson. Undersized center with strong low post game/average athletic ability.

I see him as a PG who is going to really develop his game in school, probably come out as a Junior or Senior, and be very polished. I think he could be a good starting NBA PG,maybe not great, but someone who can facilitate an offense.

If you could get a younger Al Jefferson would you? Having a front court where both players are 20 and 19 would be exceptional. And I would say Kanter has shown the ability to have more range, be a better rebounder and a better passer. Basically, he's a smarter player. And I wouldn't say 6'10 with a 7'1 wingspan is undersized. IMO.

He's a taller version of Ed Cota. And he would have to make drastic improvements to his game to be even an average starter. Maybe he will, but from what I've seen right now, I don't think he does.

Based on what? He may never be as good as Jefferson, you are basing everything off one game he did good against his young American peers?

I think that is pretty unfair, he kid has really good vision. If you have good vision as a PG, you can be a good starter.

Nobody knows. If we all for certain how these players would turn out then we wouldn't be having this discussion. This is just my opinion. And my opinion is that he's showing far more skills than Jefferson did at the same age and that in time, he will be a better player than Jefferson. Hell, you probably said the same thing about Kevin Love. About the same height, average athletically, why would he be better?
