I wonder, if the Jazz keep all their 1st round picks, if they try and pick nba ready players. Some good ones projected late first round like motley, peters, and hart.

I guess we'll see what happens if we put in waiver bids. We could use both Deron and Bogut. It'd be a mistake to walk in to the playoffs relying on any big outside of Gobert. And if Hill has more toe problems then we will struggle. Seems like a small investment to ensure we're putting up a good competitive effort to close the season and post-season.

I agree with this completely. I'd probably wait until late in the process so as to not tip my hand, but I'd put in a claim for both and cut Mack, then Withey if they were successful.

Bogut, Diaw, JJ, Burks/Jingles and Williams is one hell of a veteran bench unit.

Or DL may be working on a trade. Rights to drafted players can always be traded a few months later. Probably also needs to see what happens with Hill and Hayward.
 
The takeaway from today is that DL could likely get DWill or Bogut, if he wanted, without giving up any assets. Well, outside of having to waive someone.

And he can replace the FA's Utah does lose (+ 2 extra roster spots) with cheap rookies from a deep draft.

Selfishly, I'd like to see DWill return - and no, Cy, you don't have to bump a thread with me saying I hated Deron. He's said some good things about Utah a few times. So If he can grow up, so can I.

But I understand why Dennis didn't make a trade and may stand pat.

NBA ready is mostly a myth... Rookies do not help you win in any meaningful way. I would hope we stick to best player available. NBA ready and drafting for need is where many mistakes are made.

Agreed. Someone like Hield wouldn't even be getting minutes on a playoff team. And Valentine on the Bulls, just awful.
 
There certainly are NBA ready players, it isn't a myth. Just because sometimes players get labeled as such and end up not being good NBA players, doesnt mean their arent NBA ready players.

There are also 100s of NBA players deemed to have great potential and they never amount to anything. Does that mean there is no such thing as players with great potential?
 
Obviously, like with drafting anyone, identifying who is good and who isnt is the main part of drafting. 90% of labels/preconceived notions at draft time end up being wrong or inaccurate. That doesnt mean they are all wrong.

Rookies helping GOOD teams win in meaningful ways is extremely rare. Malcolm is a good player though... he is the exception... not the rule.

I would not approach the draft trying to find win-now exceptions. I'd try to find the best prospects... period. Just saying that is one of the common strategies that leads to huge draft mistakes... Think Buddy Hield over Jamal Murray.

Pascal Siakim has given teh Raptors solid minutes this year too.

Kewl... he will be at the 905 now that they went and upgraded and got guys that are more ready to help them win now.
