What's new

Looking for a new team

How do the Orioles fit into that equation though?? The Yankees are the only team I've rooted for my entire life. I've also been a Vikings fan since I'm 10 and I guess thats when I broke the seal in rooting for other teams..

Wake Forest used to be my favorite team in college but the coach Skip Prosser died and they kinda faded into obscurity(sans Ish Smith).. Now I have favorite teams in all the conferences, sometimes a few.

I have a whole process on how I chose the Jazz and will choose the next team.

Fake fan. Always have been always will be.

Strange. I can't relate to folks who can choose their team.

Regardless of how bad it gets, I'm a Jazz, Orioles and BYU fan for life. All three suck most of the time, and if i could change, i just might. But i can't. Simply not a choice- like my sexual orientation. I'll always be straight. that ain't changing either. Thank heavens.

Ftr, I'm not saying it's bad that you guys can choose the sports team you root for, if anything I'm jealous, rather just different and i don't understand it.

Great post.

I'm not hopped up on the whole "rooting for my team to win" and acting like it's some agonizing process.. I enjoy the games for what they are at face value, to me it's a leisure activity, like I said a Hobby. I'm more concerned with deconstructing whats happening on the court..

I think during NFL season when many of my old friends see Vikings highlights they think of me. When they started 5-0 I started hearing from people.

I never minded being a 'displaced fan'.. thats one of the reasons I stopped rooting for the Knicks.. I hated talking with Knicks fans about the Knicks.

Team goes from winning 24 games to 38 to 40 to probably 50, has a good young group and has made sensible decisions for long term success. And bishes are jumping off the wagon .... ok ..... Bai

I will always be a Jazz fan. Just bored with the NBA in general. Every team is essentially doing the same thing, albeit some better than others.

I still hate our offense.

This is how I am with European soccer. It's a great joy and relief from being a tortured Jazz fan. I have no rooting interest except in certain underdog situations. I just enjoy looking up formations/tactics and dissecting what I see. EPL, La Liga, Budesliga, Serie A all morning on Saturday and Sunday is basically the highlight of my weekends nowadays and I absolutely love it.

A lot of this. This must be what it's like to be a BYU fan, watching everyone around you get better with more advantages while you do the same as you've always done, but it's just not quite as fun and you fall further and further behind.

Kinda off topic but people with kids, do you have them watch games with you? Does it make it more enjoyable or would you rather rant in peace? I'm hoping when I have kids they'll have a interest in watching sports with me and that'll be something we'll share while they grow up. Guess it's luck of the draw on whether kids will show interest I suppose.

Guess a good question for fishonjazz, when your kiddo gets a little older are you going to try to get them into watching the Jazz with you?

I've been bored with the NBA for a long time now(outside the Jazz obviously). I'm trying to transition what I do with European soccer to the NBA and really trying to learn the game and understand what individual teams are trying to accomplish in terms of tactics. It's given the games a new dimension and actually made me watch other teams beside the Jazz. Recommended.

Damn right I am

You've been selling the yungins will be good someday trust me guys pitch for far too long. No, no they won't. Those who can put aside their Jazz bias and those on the outside looking in know what we have.

Burks - role player
Exum - #4 pick bust
Gobert - pretty good, awesome dude but no cornerstone and not a well rounded player
Favors - solid, middle of the road piece, somewhat efficient
Hayward - solid, middle of the road piece, somewhat efficient
Hood - the only wildcard in the deck atm

That's not a rebuild, that's a bludgeoning of the fanbases trust. You and Stoked and the likes can continue your starry eyed love for the franchise and I applaud you for your willingness to find some charm in maggots. I, however, find it quite silly to pledge my blind devotion to a team that continues blunder after blunder, and an ownership group who is well known for keeping the franchise only to benefit their greasy car sales business. And if you don't think LHM was the greasiest person on the planet you likely don't know an actual thing about the guy. The guy even admitted to screwing John and Karl out of a championship. Personally, I hope the team gets sold.

LMAO at this post.

Gobert - Not a cornerstone player and not well rounded.

Hayward - Middle of the road piece.

You were so right.

I have a whole process on how I chose the Jazz and will choose the next team. I always say I'm a fan of the game first, I could actually be a teamless fan. There's a chance I kick the can do the road til the summer of 2018.

good question. when i was first getting into baseball at about age 9, the orioles had a rookie by the name of Cal Ripken. i decided he was a bad *** and started rooting for him and the O's. no connection to the city of Baltimore. i've been to one game in Baltimore in my life. they've been tough to root for over the years, but i'm stuck.

my kids just don't like watching sports. i'd love it if they'd watch sports with me though. even my son who is a pretty good basketball player isn't really a sports fan. he'll watch with me on occasion just to hang out with dad and he also knows quite about what's going on because he plays sports video games all the time, but i'll never catch him watching a game alone, any sport - really just doesn't care.

This is where the sporting world is going to get pulverized coming up. They are used to baby boomers sitting in front of the tv for 4 hours to watch a 60 minute game. They are used to 2 mins of action followed by 5 mins of commercials with a 20 minute commercial halftime in the middle.

Why would anyone watch that? What a waste of time. For what? So Gordon Hayward can make 30 million a year? And the Miller's can grow their net worth to over a billion dollars?

Screw that. Then, toss in that unless you are Boston or LA or have Jordan or LeBron, you aren't winning a title? In the NFL, you have to have Manning, Brady, Roethlisberger or Rogers to have a shot to win it all?

The younger people are smarter than we are. ESPN is already cutting back on commercials. You will see revenue drop and then salaries will follow.

That last part is simply not true at all.

Or it is completely true:

https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.c...-commercials-other-changes-to-speed-up-games/

https://www.sbnation.com/college-fo...26/espn-abc-less-commercials-college-football

Take a step back and think about it. Think about how much time you spend watching sports. How often has a season ended and you've been elated? How many games end and you are pissed off and can't sleep?

Now, why would you do that, when you can watch Netflix or Prime or whatever and the guy/team you root for wins at the end? And instead of 3-4 hours, you only spent 1.5? And with no commercials?

What we do to watch sports is asinine if you think about it.

Like I said, the millenials are smarter than the boomers. TV/sports will have to catch up or get left behind.

I'm only 20. This generation coming up is dumb as ****. The NBA and NFL aren't going anywhere.
