2016-17 Hype Train Playoff Chase!!!

Not sure how anyone thinks we are going to fall below OKC in the standings. I just noticed they have a 12-19 road record.

Increasingly unlikely we fall below okc. But I don't have your confidence yet. I'd say we have a >80% chance to finish above okc.

Locke predicted last night that we'll get 50 wins and get the 7th seed. Thoughts? His explanation for it is that the Grizzlies have a relatively easy schedule the rest of the way and we have a brutal one. Also OKC holds the tie breaker with us.

At this point, I think I'd be more worried if Utah had an easy schedule. This team has pretty much proven that they don't come to play against teams they should beat, and have to end up getting lucky in a close game.

With the tough schedule, Utah could build some momentum going into the playoffs if they show up to play and get some wins over teams that don't suck.

Yep. Road record always separates the pretenders, and OKC is where the drop off is in the west.

Fans always assume a trade will make a team better, but team chemistry is a tricky deal, and sometimes it takes time and actual hurts them in the short term. This is a big reason Utah decided to stand pat, because it's always a gamble to mess with chemistry in the middle of the season, and Utah's is actually pretty good right now. Our biggest issue is overlooking teams we should beat, and trading for a better backup PG doesn't solve that issue.

I really like Locke, but that was one of the silliest thing ever. If he framed it as "hey this could end with everyone really close and in fact there is one credible scenario with a multiple team tie where we win 50 and still get the 7 seed" it would have been fine, but he framed it as if this was his prediction. I'd say there is a much higher probability that the the 5 seed ends below 50 games than the 7 seed ends with 50+ games.

Locke's a mouthpiece for the Jazz Org, so he's probably just tempering our expectation.... so that when we finally got the 4th seed or whatever we'd be stoked.

But if we do end up with the 7th seed he can be like 'we told you so'. It's a win/win for him/them.

Jazz are 5th best in the nba on the road.

This team has pretty much proven that they don't come to play against teams they should beat.

Jazz have proven precisely the opposite. They are 27-4 (87%) against the bottom 16 teams in the league per Sagarin rankings. Jazz have lost 4 games, Celtics 5, Spurs and Cavs 7, Clippers 9, Rockets 10, Only the Warriors are better with 2 losses.

I'd like to see the Jazz get a 4/5 matchup with Memphis, then the Spurs in the 2nd round. Hopefully the Clippers will accommodate us.

This.

We're a full 3 games up on Memphis and a full 4 games up on OKC. I'd be willing to bet we end up either the 4/5 seed.

So , ranking them from 1-3 , 1
Being most preferred, 3 being least preferred, who do you want to play in 1st round playoff ?? Consider all teams to be 100% healthy.
Clippers , Grizzlies or Thunder ??
Can also just give 1 preference

1. Thunder
2. Grizzlies
3. Clips

I really don't want to play the Clippers in the first round. We match up horribly with them and haven't they won like 16 straight games on our home floor?

Clips have won 9 straight in Utah and they are 17-1 overall in our last 18 meetings. Pure dominance... Even if we have homecourt against the Clips in the playoffs, they'll be licking their chops.

Now show the stats for blowout games. They are coasting against bad teams they should dominate, and having to win close games that they should win easily.

Utah won a close game last night against a team that had no business almost winning that game. It goes down as a W in our record, but that doesn't prove they showed up to play that night. I stand by what I said, although I may have been overstating somewhat.

What a game last night! Gobert is a monster! Also the Thunder lost!!! As sis the Kings and Lakers.

Warriors, Suns, Mavericks and Pelicans also won.

Tonight's games:

Warriors @ Hawks
Nets @ Grizzlies
Blazers @ Wolves (eh)
Rockets @ Spurs (maybe they pass GS for the #1 seed?)
Kings @ Nuggets
Pelicans @ Jazz
Celtics @ Clippers

Jazz face the two headed monster of the Pelicans tonight. Davis and Cousins is a killer combo in the paint. I wonder how that is working out.

If the bolded teams win the race, 1-7, will look like this after tonight:

1- Warriors
2 - Spurs 1.5 behind
3 - Rockets 7.5 behind
4 - Jazz 11.5 behind
5 - Clippers 14 behind
6 - Grizzlies 15.5 behind
7 - Thunder - 16 behind

Wow, we can gain some serious ground tonight. I think LAC and Houston both lose tonight and Jazz win.
