Is it just me, or is this a longer list of high quality quotes than most games? Thanks JazzAvenues!
 
My feeling all along has been the the Rockets offer us the best matchup to win a playoff series. Our slower tempo of play can offset their advantages, plus we just play better against them for some reason. I'd almost prefer to drop to the 6th seed. After sitting through too many to count home losses this year, I'm not sure getting home court against a team that has owned us this year, so far, is better than playing the Rockets without home court. Plus, if we do lose home court in a series with Clippers, I'd prefer to play the Rockets without home court. This is, of course, all moot. In any case, winning any first round series this year (let alone a second round series) is going to be very difficult.
 
We wont be playing the Rockets in the playoffs this year unless we fall to the 6th seed (which I honestly would be fine with).

I would much rather get 3rd seed, push the Rockets to 4 and get them to play the Clippers, and then have us go against the Grizz. Then we can play the winner of Spurs OKC in the 2nd, and the Warriors in the 3rd.

If we stay 4th seed, our path is Clippers --> Warriors, which I'm not nearly as fond of.

Spurs are only 1.5 games behind the Warriors and they are down Durant. It is very possible that the Warriors end up the 2nd seed. This reverses your entire scenario for 2nd round on.

"Stans" because they both seem like the mentally unstable type.
 
I personally know one huge rocket fan... unfortunately he is one of the most likeable, down to earth, successful dudes... completely rational and educated about basketball... kind of pisses me off because I would love to send him taunts and insults when we bury those guys... he'd probably respond by saying "yup you guys sure stomped us good" "you've got a great team over ther".

It's kind of a dick move on his part right?

They need to review that rule. It is very evident to everyone that he is not really trying to shoot the ball, he is only trying to get fouled. Rules should not allow for that. Incredibly annoying to watch this guy go to the line for 3 fts' time after time and non-attempts. Just have the refs review his shot form on wide open looks and then see how it compares to his foul-attracting efforts.

I think the problem for the NBA is you can't dictate how players shoot. With what Harden is doing, does he make the shot sometimes? Yes. I've even seen him get And-1 with that shot of his. Once you start down that road of dictating how players shoot, where does it end?


Who's to say what's the 'correct' shooting form/posture? I would hate to be in the committee set up to determine that.

It's real simple. There is going up for the shot and someone hitting you, and there is someone hitting you and you going up for the shot. Super easy to tell the difference.

I would also get rid of continuation which I hate almost as much as I hate the three point line. You were not ****ing shooting. You were running to the basket, which is very different.

Getting rid of continuation is a terrible idea. There is already too many intentional fouls to stop breaks.

And as far as your first post, it's not easy to tell. Part of what makes Harden great is he anticipates reaches very well and is super quick to react.
 
Harden is staring in the next Hollywood blockbuster cause he's the best actor in the NBA.

It's very hard to tell. He holds the ball in front of him when driving - how do you know what he's going to do? He says he's going up for a layup, you say he's just holding it.


On the flipside, if you're the defender, and you're saying he's just holding the ball to pass or whatever - why do you need to foul him in the first place? Obviously you're fouling him because you're afraid he's gonna lay it up. And boy, have I seen some of his trick shots. They do go in, believe me. He somehow gets them to go in.


Also if you're a good enough defender - defend him without fouling, that would solve the issue. But you can't, because he's just too crafty.

Well, this could be solved by actually calling intentional fouls. This would also eliminate "last 40 seconds take 10 minutes to play" issues. If someone obviously fouls, free throws and ball on the side.

And as far as Harden goes, err on the side of reputation. You'd be shocked how quickly he'd stop acting like a bitch and actually play basketball.

Sounds great, another thing refs have to make a judgement call on: if a foul was intentional or not.

It doesn't matter what he was going to do or what he planned to do. Was he actually shooting at the time? Not was he going to take one more step and shoot. **** that. Free throws weren't invented to reward craftiness, they were invented to compensate you if someone does actually illegally impede you from shooting. You shouldn't want to shoot freethrows, you should want to shoot unimpeded. It's like car insurance. You don't want to be involved in an accident, but mandatory insurance exists in case you are. The moment you start wanting to be in an accident, you're following the letter of the law instead of the spirit. Which is dumb, whether basketball or real life.
