President Assad gasses and Donald fiddles

The Seal strike into Yemen and now the cruise missile attack into Syria. Will Trump showing his willingness to use military might cause other nations, like Iran and Russia, second guess some of their decisions?

I'd think so.

This. And is it lost on everyone that this happened on the day that the Chinese president is in Florida meeting with Trump?

I'd disagree with you. This board has become increasingly more liberal and less intellectual to the point where I just stay out of the political threads due to personal attacks against me regardless of facts.

Nope, i don't really claim to know much about all that. Which i hazard a guess is only marginally less than you actually really know from sitting in your ivory tower reading and "educating yourself"
You're consistently the most self righteous pompous bag of wind i've read on any messageboard. Get out into the real world. Run a business. Employ people. Take responsibility for something other than your narrow little world. Pull your head out of your rear. Then you can tell other people what life is about.

Just one dickhead.

and you know and understand sooooo little about basketball.

You do realize that we are talking about Syria, right? How does running a business apply to this? How would employing people help one's understanding of Middle East politics? I'm trying to follow your logic from my ivory tower. It's hard, cuz it's really high above you.

Possibly.

But I venture to guess that they're both very aware of trump's abysmal approval rating, America's weariness of war, and of the exploding national debt which prevents us from engaging in long expensive international conflicts.

Remember now, Donald was elected by his base for his "America First" approach. Refugees, internationalism, etc second. A movement similar to the "know nothing" movement of the 1840s and the "America First" movement of the 1930s under Charles Lindbergh.

Betraying his base to lead us to more international conflict without offsetting domestic victories (coal jobs, health care reform, etc) might spell doom to his presidency. Democrats, even if they agree with him, lose nothing by opposing him. If they pick up some disenchanted trumpetiers, 2018 and 2020 will be brutal for the GOP.

Less intellectual probably. More conservative? I haven't noticed that so much.

But either way you can say "the right thing" in ways that are respectful to others who don't share those views, right? Why not let the logic of your positions convince them instead of driving them away with your tone?

Have you seen what's going on locally and nationally? Logic is out, rational thought is out, civility is gone. This is the era of alt facts. Hell, you read about the homeless person booed at the Draper city homeless shelter that was debated recently, right? The shelter was a battered women's shelter set to be placed on the west side of I-15 near the present day prison. Not near any planned neighborhoods. Yet Draper city residents climbed over each other threatening their long time mayor with litigation and booed a homeless person who spoke.

Look at the recent town halls with chaffetz and Stewart and their subsequent mockery of angry constituents as "paid protestors."

Logic and facts don't matter to a large segment of our population so incredibly ignorant of history. Why read history books when am radio and cable news can teach you everything?

Thankfully, some people get it. I've read that "it can't happen here" and "1984" have skyrocketed in sales. So perhaps people are beginning to wake up and become stirred to read at least classics if not history again.

Even elder oaks is sounding liberal these days and has spoken out against current political trends. This past conference featured several talks about the need for civility, compassion, and thoughts towards refugees and the less fortunate.

Anyway, I think a careful review of this thread will show that I've at least matched the respect and civility of the posts directed at me. By now you should have seen the reported posts ripe with personal insults and profane language and expect those accused posters to be disciplined the same as if I had written the same insulting post. In order to receive respect one should probably show respect first.

America shouldn't have done this, but no mainstream lib will have the cojones to say that. Credit to Rand Paul in this regard.

Define intellectual

Quick question - why is Assad still president? Don't they have elections in Syria?

C'mon man! Serriously?

More than half of Syria's population has been displaced, somewhere around 12 million people, in the ongoing civil war.

No elections are taking place. There is death and terror and absolute uncertainty.

OK so Russia helped Assad taking siege on Aleppo. But today Trump just filed the missiles against Assad. So clearly Trump is taking a stand against Russia, right? So why all these conspiracies about Trump and Russia being in cahoots with each other?

This board has become increasingly conservative and less intellectual over the years, don't you think? We've seen so many good posters leave never to be replaced. You know im right. Seattle jazz, Pearl, S2M, nerd, Austin collie's cousin, etc.

I'm sure this sounds insulting to others but it doesn't make it any less true. I've never claimed to say the popular thing, but the right thing.

The west in general has become more conservative, led by the mainstream media that pursue and report from the perspective the rich. Even public broadcasters parrot this approach, I was watching the ABC yesterday (Australia's national public broadcaster) and they had some god botherer on to discuss the weeks issues. I thought to myself when was the last time they had a union leader or a socialist intellectual on to do the same. Obscure rightwing mouthpieces are fine but the leftie version won't get any airtime, think of the air time given to bankers and financial types to discuss the budget, interest rate changes ect. These people have a vested interest in maintaining the status quo, the same time isn't given to welfare, homeless, and other social advocacy groups.

I was watching Trump acting as the president on the news before and I kind of had a surreal moment of disbelief, having to tell myself that this isn't some strange acid trip, this clown is President of the United States. Truly staggering.

mate are you kidding ? The ABC generally as a whole is as left wing as anything going around. Q and A is the most Left of any show on TV.

People usually can never seem to agree on what the national broadcaster is or isn't.. lol..

maybe usually, but i can't think of anyone here who would seriously think the ABC is right leaning. The previous conservative government wanted to cut their funding in part because of their perceived heavy left bias. Nearly all of their political commentators are noted mild to very left leaning.
