What's new

2011 draft.....

I may be souring on Enes Kanter. Unless he's gotten bigger, I'm worried he might just be a slightly rich man's Cole Aldrich. I could see him slipping in this draft.

Yeah, that's, for the most part, a horrible video for scouting purposes. Most of his "highlights" are him cutting to the hoop and getting a good pass from a teammate for an open dunk and doing a "look at me" pose afterward.

Fortunately, there was a little bit more later on in the video. His low post seems to be diving across the lane for a hook. He's obviously fairly weak. Looks like he has a motor. His form on his jump shot looks pretty good, though his jump looks a bit wayward. He's a guy who could have good form on his jump shot.

What is giving you this impression? Has he measured smaller than everyone expected him to, ala Cole Aldrich?

I thought Aldrich was known for his defense, whereas Kanter's known for his offense.

anyone know why Aldrich didn't see much floor time in his rookie year?

Obvisouly none of us can really evaluate any of the Euro players. None of us (Im assuming) have actually seen them play games or followed their careers like we can American college players.

Im guessing because he sucked. The Thunder where desperate for a defensive big and he couldnt see any playing time? Sounds like a case of Hesuckass.

Watching Vesely's highlight reel really makes me want him. His dunks are so nasty, reminds of Kevin Durant.

Here is some game film of Vesely, not all highlights. The dude is definitely talented. He can post up and play on the perimeter. He takes advantage of his size on offense and defense. Runs the court well. His shot looks pretty decent to me, from a mechanical standpoint. He obviously needs to work on his body. He doesnt really seem like he has much weight potential, but Im sure can add some, he is only 18.

Aldrich has a learning curve. He needs to put on more muscle. He is now buried on a suddenly deep bench

Wasn't he a senior or junior coming out of Kansas? How much learning curve should there be? Im going to go ahead and say he has a career similar to Koufus. He will stick around because he is big, but never really amount to much.

Vesely is 20.

Be careful watching highlight films. They can be very deceiving kind of like watching a med student taking her top off for tuition.

And you're saying watching those types of films is a bad thing?
We don't need a Dr. (unless it's the next version of Dr. J); what we need is someone to come in, provide the desired bang for our bucks and leave us satisfied with their performance. Sounds like your analogy is perfect.

I haven't seen Kanter suck in a game. My concern is that what little footage there is on him shows that his lateral quickness and athleticism are limited and that he plays below the rim. He dominated at the Nike Hoops Summit, but wasn't going up against anyone with NBA size. He was the biggest player on the floor in terms of height and weight. That game was also pretty loose in terms of defense and intensity, so it's easy to see why he would get deep position and dominate inside. Even if he is highly skilled, he seems like a slightly smaller and slightly less fluid Demarcus Cousins, or maybe he's a Kevin Love. In other words, he may be better suited to play PF that C.

Who knows? He was only 18 in that video, and we'll have to see how he does in workouts. We know KOC went to watch him workout, so no he's obviously on our radar. I'm just not sure if he's the center we want. Vallanciunas at least looks like he'll have an Andris Biedrins impact on defense and has NBA length and quickness. Valanciunas may have buy-out issues though.
