Withey accused of domestic violence

Very odd timing. I highly doubt it yet it's slightly possible someone with ties to the Clippers may be a little bit behind this.
If the Clippers lose this series there is a very high percentage chance that the team and coaching staff might looking for playing for new teams.
Whenever multi millions of dollars are involved it kinda makes you wonder.
Rudy Gobert gets hurt. Then 3 days later now that Jeff has a potential role in the series. Now this comes out, it kinda adds up.
I read this theory on the tmz board. It sounded crazy but it's a maybe.

I hope this isn't true. But I also hope that posters to this discussion board don't embarrass themselves and this board in general by resorting to the same good ol' boy old tactics of attacking the accuser or questioning her motives. Sadly, I already see it going in this direction.

Women and other people who are victims of sexual harrassment or abuse don't follow some script dictated to them by men or by irrational fans of some sports team on how they should act, when they should report it, how they should feel, what actions they should take, etc. This woman and her charges deserve to be taken seriously until there's a good reason they should not. So far, I don't see that, and neither do any of you. So please don't take this direction one might, sadly, expect it to take.

I do question her motives and timing. Like one poster said, if she was so concerned about other women, then why did she wait so long? It's not like Jeff Withey is some celebrity with power over her. Also, if something serious happened, I would expect something of note would've been reported by the police. Yes, I think there are a lot of questions that remain. Obviously, there were problems with the relationship, but doesn't mean there were criminal acts committed.

I'm naturally cautious and skeptical of things like this. Of all parties involved. I am skeptical of her report, timing, mental state...

I am cautious of Withey as well. Plenty of people are fantastic at hiding their true nature to the outside world. Then behind close doors they are abusive in many ways. It is completely possible that he did exactly what she is accusing him of.

Either way I will not shame or attack her and she should get a fair and impartial investigation into this. I also won't demonize him and hope for his sake that he also receives a fair and impartial investigation.

As far as the Jazz go their line should to keep Withey's participation with the team exactly as it has been. Voice support for a full and impartial investigation. Privately tell Withey that if this is true than he is gone immediately and not welcome back.

Interesting discussion.

Jazz PR released this statement:

"We are aware of the media reports involving Jeff Withey. At this point, we are collecting information and will have no further comment until we have a better understanding of the situation."

The more I think about it the more it stinks. Interesting that this comes out just when Withey is at the very height of his career importance.

If it was a ploy to distract the jazz....mission accomplished.

There's wildly more media here in SLC for Jazz practice today than there was in LA for Clippers practice, which is kind of surprising.

True or untrue. Sad either way.

No winners here. Either he's a scumbag or she is or both.

I think the timing really sucks and puts the organization in a can't win scenario... assume guilt and dismiss the guy... tell everyone you need it to play out and then get accused of being pro-abuse

This year man... injuries and bs like this... wasn't supposed to be this way.

Agree well put.

As i am married to someone who has endured abuse through her life, the way a woman -- or any person -- handles abuse is individually unique. Timings may seem weird, or sometimes they don't want to report anything at all -- there is no right time to seek action against abuse, whats important is that action is being taken -- any associated shaming of the victim is uncalled for. They could have difficulties facing the problem due to self shame, embarrassment, fear, or a whole other myriad of issues. I'm one for "innocent until proven guilty", but i'm also one for defending a potential victim from "shaming" or "suspicion" due to allegations of abuse. No one should have to face scrutiny for seeking action against abuse, and its the nay-say attitude of the public against these victims that feeds into the lack of action in the first place.

Perfectly said.

I think they should let the legal process play out. That should be their position, imo.

I would 'generally' agree. But, if there is video of him beating his wife or similarily damning evidence of his guilt, go ahead and skip the legal part.

Please everyone read this five times. Truth.

I don't know if you are just trying to troll me or if these are questions you really have. I don't think this is the place or the forum to discuss this.

You're treating the word "law" as if it means "indisputable truth". There is no such laws in science. A better word would be principle. Scientific fields collect these principles into "theories". The word theory doesn't mean anything you can pull out of your ***, and the word law doesn't mean something is above dispute. The theories of evolution, quantum mechanics, relativity, etc, are as certain as anything can be in science. Yet, they are theories.

There is nothing about psychology, or any other "soft" science, that makes it immune to the scientific method.

It sounded like that is what you said to do.

No they should publicly say that their position is to let the investigation run its course. Some may think that that is too neutral but the Jazz are not the police. They shoyld recognize that that is beyond their scope and let the people equipped to handle this handle it. Sorry if I wasn't clear.

I'm not saying you're wrong but if the NFL had taken this course of action the last few years, the public backlash they would have received would have been infinitely worse than what it did take on.

I agree with this and 1971 above. Let it play out but if there is video evidence go ahead and get in front of it.

One thing I believe is we have a really classy organization... I have faith they do the right thing.
