To content for a title, Jazz need a Center

You do need a sizable front court to compete for a championship, at least in the west. Lakers have 2 7f ooters that go 4 and 5 and then a Lamar who could play the 4 on most teams playing the 3. Mavs, spurs, nuggets and even menphis have good size in the front court.

The Jazz had two centers this year, Fes and Elson. Al is a PF, Favors is a PF and Milsap is a really small PF. If Milsap can move to the 3 spot that helps out tons in the size catagory against larger teams. Al can get away with playing the C spot because he has long arms and a quick release on his shot. Problem is against real centers, he goes to his mid range shot more than taking to the basket. Against smaller guys he gets easier looks and goes to the line more.

The Jazz dont need an allstar center. They need a Fes like guy who is consistent and doesnt bog down the offense. Nene would be my first pick there is no way denver looses him to Utah.
 
I agree, that a dominant center is a huge asset for aspiring title contenders.

However, the Bulls won with dominant wings, not centers.

The most important players on the Celtics lately are Rondo, Allen, and Pierce, not centers.

Guards were very important for Spurs.

It's hard to at all with just one great player, you need a few.
 
If you have lock down perimeter defense then you don't need anywhere near as good an inside (on defense). You also don't jeopardize rebounding position by sliding to help, thus giving up easy offensive put backs. Simple concept, I know, right?

There is no such thing as lock down perimeter defenders
 
I agree that every team wants a dominating center, but I've seen franchises ruined chasing the mythical big man. How many times have we seen big men picked above their ability, just to watch them not pan out.

It's a tough call for KOC, do you go after more size in the draft? Do you go after the few center free agents that can make a difference? I've heard KOC say he is trying to model the Detroit championship team by trying to get a strong team and not super stars. From what I have read, Kanter is the only true center that could be an eventual starter, but that's up to KOC.
 
I think we have our interior stopper & Favors, w/ Big Al being our low-post offensive scorer.

As so have stated, our perimeter D should be our next focus.
-Raja has gotten old (shouldve drafted Matthews!!)
-CJ is unreliable
-Gordon will learn to be a better perimeter defender but no stopper
-AK is gone, plus he cant defender quicker players anymore
-Thus I think we need to look at FA or drafting that perimeter stopper (RFA, Arron Affalo??)

And also look at that game we had late in the season against the Lakers. Fesenko was a force.. Sure he didn't do much that showed up in the stats, but he was there in the middle handing out punishment. I just think we're too undersized with our guys like Jefferson or Favors.. We need some big brute, like Ostertag, who can block and clog the lane.

Favors may not be finished growing yet. also, he is athletic and big enough to be our center. Dwight howard is 6'11 and he is an amazing center-- Derrick Favors is 6'10. once he builds some more muscle he'll be a soild center!
