Wow.. ok.. very strange. Is the EU ok with this? I mean, why?!?!

Turkey has blocked all access inside the country to the online encyclopaedia Wikipedia, one of the world's most popular websites.

It was not initially clear why the ban had been imposed.

The Turkey Blocks group said the site was inaccessible from 08:00 (05:00 GMT) by order of the Turkish authorities.
People in the capital Istanbul were unable to access any Wikipedia pages without using a Virtual Private Network (VPN).

"After technical analysis and legal consideration based on the Law Nr. 5651 [governing the internet], an administrative measure has been taken for this website," Turkey's Information and Communication Technologies Authority was quoted as saying.
No reason was given.

Turkey Blocks and Turkish media, including the Hurriyet Daily News, said the provisional order would need to be backed by a full court ruling in the next few days.

They continue to go farther to the extreme. Not sure if we lose them as an ally as yet, but its not good.
They have a big army, and their land is right between many conflict points.

We need them, but their president is leading them away from us.

Erdogan sees himself as a modern Ataturk, there are heaps of different tensions in Turkey between the secular and clerical forces, left and right and Kurds and Turks. I'm not sure with the US position in Iraq if they really need the Turks as much as they did. That said the Europeans probably need them more to deal with their refugee problem. In any case Erdogan is a ******* but this stuff has been coming for a while, when I was over there ten years ago you could already start to see some of it coming, the gradual creep of Islamist ideals into the law, the collapse of the economy and the condition of the poor. These sort of pressures are difficult enough for mature democracies in developed countries, let alone a country like Turkey.

Ally? Our lands are filled with US bases and anti-missile ramps so you can relax on the ally deal.

Take your turkey off your keyboard. Problem solved. You are welcome.

Two "antifa" groups threatened to disrupt an Oregon "Roses Parade" through violence because a republican group had one of the floats. So the parade was canceled. This would have been it's 10th annual parade.

Good on em, fight the power! Seriously man a somewhat mediocre business man and reality TV host is president of the United States, look at the calibre of some of the people who've held that office and look at him. Something is very wrong in America, I'm not saying these kids have the answer but at least they're having a crack. So what if some families are inconvenienced, you've got to crack a few eggs to make an omelette...

Social media and like-only system made people into PC principles. Electing Trump was a social reaction to this tendency and probably is the reason behind less educated people in all societies moving towards dicktators.

I think the media is more to blame, I don't believe in the transformative powers of social media, I also don't use social media so that may have something to do with my beliefs. Think it places too much emphasis on youth power and young people who life has taught me are mostly absolutely ****ing useless at everything.

Whether if you believe or don't believe, it's the seed of tomorrow's world. There will be an enormous synchronized world unity in the times where today's globalization and social networking leads to.

Not so much a matter of belief because I'm sure it has some influence I just think that influence is overstated. For instance traditional organs of protest have not been able to harness this and become rejuvenated, the hard left and the trade union movement are still as impotent as ever with or without social media. I think there is a cultural shift occurring within the developed world away from any concept of community toward hyper individualism and consumerism, the right has exploited this.

There was an uprising protest nationwide in Turkey in 2013. Government shut down all channels for communication and protesters still gathered and communicated, planned and organized using VPN tools to bypass blockage over Twitter and used Periscope to give each other the real news instead of the entire media that was silenced by government.

The comments crack me up. Did you all know that the Nazis now officially run the republican party? The actual Nazis, not a comparison. The lack of knowledge or understanding of history and context is staggering and kind of mind-blowing at times. I get it is an internet comment section, so generally only the nut-jobs on both ends wax eloquent, but still. The comments are hilarious.

What a stupid sentiment. Let's abandon peaceful protest and go for threats and violence. For the record if it comes down to violence than the GOP is going to ****ing win. Idiot

Peaceful protest hasn't worked since Gandhi in India, how did all those marches and sit ins go during the Vietnam war? What about the millions that took to the street over America's last illegal war? Peaceful protest is a middle class fantasy. Without the threat of violence it has no value.
