Following potential 2017 draftees...

One more thought... David Locke has said many times that scouts have told him that being an explosive leaper off of one foot is way more important than being an explosive two foot leaper. Is this valid? I feel like it's more important to be an explosive leaper in traffic and not just in wide open spaces, thought maybe they go hand in hand since it takes longer to gather yourself to leap from two feet. For example someone like Tyler Lydon (two foot leaper) looks explosive in the open court, but it takes him forever to gather himself to jump, so he's not that explosive in traffic.

This is important, U can see it in live action vs Rudy, he's very tough on 2-footed jumpers. This is why I knew LaVine was legit when DX had him ranked in the 70's of ll the freshman in the class.

Yeah it's one of those things where when you see it, you start noticing it everywhere. Even if you just watch the DX strength/weakness vids, if the prospect is "explosive in space," they're usually two foot leapers. In traffic just that extra split second it takes to gather seems to make a big difference. Then in the NBA where half a second makes a huge difference and the margin for error is so slim, those people will be at an even greater disadvantage.

Exum is a two foot leaper. There is about 3 inches difference between his max and standing. He gets blocked by his man even when he beats him with his first step.

He's fine flying horizontally to the basket. He "just" needs to get more minutes under his belt and turn the corner more often so he getts those whistles when someone pushes him slightly when flying at max speed.

Just another guys opinion. You want to know how horrendously bad DX bombed on their 2016 mock draft?

Of all the publically available media mocks, they still had the best performance by all statistical means...

Remember when people laughed at me when I said Otto Porter would be better than Andrew Wiggins?

Once Wiggins buys into Thibodeau's defense, he'll outperform Porter by a mile.

There are prospects who can do both tho. For sure. Like Wilt Chamberlain and LeBron. If you look at some of Lillard's best moves slicing right past Rudy they're all off 1 foot.

I jump just as high off 1-foot as off 2 and it's very effective in pickup games, once u get a feel for brushing the defender back on their heels or leaning the wrong way, it's a wrap.. layup drill.. cookies.. I'm also a lefty so at my LA fitness when I drive and slip past the defense usually some of the regulars will yell "GINOBILI"

This is one of the reasons why when I first saw that kid Robert Williams years ago, I knew he was really a player to watch and just had to be underrated (I saw him on a good day i guess, cuz I dunno how in the world he wasn't ranked higher even back then)

U gotta see this 7-footer Mitchell Robinson that will be in next years draft, he's 1-footed J and super-duper light on his feet, it's something u almost gotta see to believe --- For players with his build it results in him blocking jumpshots on the perimeter. Anthony Davis is also a great example of this..

Ya as this applies to Exum there's nothing to worry about. When u can beat your man as badly/thoroughly as he can with the blazing first step. thats all you really need.

Stephon Marbury was great at all this stuff.. Doesn't mean he was a great NBA player (he was at one point but for the Knicks(given his pay-grade) he was toxic... and come to think of it exactly the same for Steve Francis.

so in this draft u have Dennis Smith who's very explosive off 1 foot. Terrance Ferguson off 1 foot.. Frank Jackson 1 foot.. I could go on.. It's not the be-all end-all tho..

I;m not sure if they still recommend this but if u wanna get better at it i'd suggest hopping up stairs on one foot. at first it'll seem akward but u get your balance, I can fly up a set of stairs, 2 stairs at a time, on one foot.

Even if it doesn't boost your explosion (it will) your stability/control will increase even more.

Also while we're on the subject if you're talking approaches before liftoff. Vince Carter is an absolutely PERFECT example. his form is impeccable.

DX came out with the John Collins video. Kind of seems like an Enes Kanter type with better feet/more bounce but less size.

Anigbogu keeps rising up the board. He is up to #17 now.

Where is everyone who said Bam > Ike? It was like the whole board vs PG_AB and I.

It really wasn't that hard to see.

cam oliver has some draymon green light to his game

Yup. He's not that kind of versatile and a key distinction i'd use for Draygoon is grizzled. There's certainly parallels tho, you're in the ballpark..

One major one is he plays with real nastiness, another is they're projected similarly in the draft..

Both have a major chip on their shoulder due to not being classically sized PF's. Oliver is also a superb shot-blocker at 6'8" he plays effectively taller than his height, and so does Draygoon. They're very similarly proportioned except Cam is way more shredded, Draymond was carrying a lot of body fat at the combine IIRC, just look at their shoulders/lats.

To me also just watching Cam Oliver this year it seemed like he was furious that he didn't get graded out higher and drafted last year..

I'll take Cam Olvier on my team anyday.. i'll just leave it at that.. The players I usually say that about usually do well...

Tony Bradley is the closest thing to Enes in this draft IMO. IDK if he's in for sure tho. Bradley's longer than Enes, has better feet, and surely a better head on his shoulders.

The thing about Bam was, and it was detailed on this board before it ever happened, he wasn't exactly that standard Coach Cal, crown jewel big.. He was stolen last minute away from the clutches of a Carolina school... thats probably why DS4 went to NC State too..

He wasn't Jarrett Allen...

and as the season progressed it was pretty obvious that he's not even Julius Randle...

Ike tho, is simply a whole different monster. There's a considerable age difference too and when u just look at them, Ike is much more "just scratching the surface". Bam does have considerable upside. He's a backup C tho right now I'd have to say.

DX listing Harry Giles as a pure C is a joke btw. Total mischaracterization.
