If this is as good as this core will be?

I'm curious to see how we will improve this offseason. We will be drafting late and it'll be interesting to see how we manage our financials.

My biggest fear is that gobert and Hayward are our set stars. But that we've topped out. I hope that we haven't whiffed on too many picks to doom gobert and Hayward, as what happened to Memphis, OKC when they had harden, LA Clippers, or even the jazz in the Deron/Boozer/AK/Memo era.

Think about it, Burke, Burks, Exum, Kanter, and Lyles are all zeros. Lyles is our lotto pick from just a few years ago and has contributed less than the jazz bear in this playoff run.

Had Burke, Burks, kanter all played out the same way, but just imagine how great of a series this would be had Exum given us just patty mills production and instead of drafting Lyles we had drafted Booker.

My fear is that we whiffed on too many picks and that this is who we are.

nope not even remotely worried. I think Rudy improves a little more next year and i feel after these playoffs Gordon goes to yet another level next year, George is mostly healthy. However this is an unbelievably critical crossroads this offseason.

Not doom and gloom. In a great position, truckloads of possibilities.

I agree. This offseason is crucial.

We need to add shooting and speed. Time to cut the dead wood, like Burks.

We need to figure out Lyles and Exum. They need to also figure out how to play in this league. It's time.

Huh??

We had 0 "stars" at the beginning of the season and now we have 2...

Thinking Rudy and Gordon have reached their ceiling after their first playoff experience is ludicrous!!!

Gordon can still do more and I'd suggest this loss will burn in his guts all off season and he will come back better again.

Rudy can do SO much!!! Who knows where his ceiling is... He can still defend better ie screens, switching and perimeter and what if he added a few post moves or a 10-12 footer?? MY LORD!

Dante will improve
Hood will improve
Lyles should improve
Alec should be healthy
Favors should be healthy
Quin will improve

At the start of the season if you were to tell me we won a playoff series and got knocked out by the warriors, I'd have thought it a successful year with the playoff experience HUGE for our development.

Can't live backwards, gotta live forward.

As fans we have The luxury of living backwards momentarily when we ask " what if" , but this is talk for campfires, barrooms, and message boards.

Dennis OLindsey and the jazz live forward asking themselves what might be. The future is uncertain, therefore it has more dangers and opportunities.

Go jazz

I mean, this team won 51 games while on crutches for most the season. Not a stretch at all to assume we would be a 60 win team with a healthy Favors and Hill.

So are we going to hang our heads that we aren't winning 65 plus?

That stupid Warriors team has pretty much ruined fans ideas of how good their team is. This Jazz team is the best we've had since John and Karl.

I'm not worried. As long as we stay around the salary cap. That's the key. We need to stay near the salary cap until we find the piece we're missing next to Gobert and Hayward. Whether that's through one of our own young guys breaking out, a signing in free agency, or a trade. If we go way over the salary cap before we find that missing piece then I will be worried. That's my worst fear.

ya very much agree. We have the basis of a good window of excellence for 5-6 years. Now is the time to swing for the fence and take a gamble on talent come what may. Mack has to go. This is now time for Quin to prove his player development rep and bring on the young and most physically gifted talent at his disposal. I am hoping that once this season is done and his win at all costs or whatever attitude it is that makes him play Mack so damned much is over that he then looks at what can take the team to the next level. Not dead wood or mediocre talent. Shoot for the stars, take a gamble on the unproven guys with most potential. If Lyles and Exum and Hood look the same toward the end of next season trade them. Having Rudy and Gordon allows him the luxury of maintaining about the same level regardless of who else surrounds them.

I still think Favors is a stud and worth gambling on, but turn over some of the others like Burks

My fear is that we overhype our players, and stagnate Ala the LA Clippers.

This team has a lot more question marks than answers right now as far as the future goes.

We can't expect people like Ingles and Hood to be starting guards on a championship caliber team. I don't necessarily want to dump them, but we need to have an answer for our weaknesses.
Shooting, defense from the 2, and consistency.

I like your optimism but reality is that not all of those are going to happen. Realistically one or two might happen.

Both Exum and Lyles seem to be in Quin's doghouse. Lyles didn't even get off the bench so he has a lot of improvement to do but what does it say when he can't even get off the bench. I think Hood is who he is. I don't think Alec or Favors will ever be the same players they were beside the fact their salaries are an obstacle to improving the team. This team has a lot of unanswered questions right now. Changes are going to be needed if they want to move up to the next level. Hoping guys will improve isn't going to get us to the next level.

Hood is a huge key. If this is who he is, he's a bench player. If he can become more consistent and shoot 41% from three, he's a legit starter and weapon.

And here's some good news. The Warriors have a ton of free agents. UFA's are Curry, Barnes, Iggy, Clark, McGee, Pachulia, West, and Livingston. McAdoo is a RFA. They'll retain Curry obviously but after him, they could be much different going forward.

Unless cp3, Westbrook, Wall, or curry is coming I wouldn't spend 20+ mil on the pg position, especially because it looks like Exum is ready to take that next step where you let him go, if he can't produce/improve, move on. Mack, Favors, Hill, and Diaw are gone because their presence prevents the growth of people that will be better or cheaper.

Exum is ready to take the next step? What evidence are you basing this on?

Losing 2 starters (1 being our PG) and 2 key bench players? And some people think we will improve because of it??? Okayyyyyy...

That 2007 jazz team was pretty good. But they could never acquire that next player. They could never improve to take that next step. That's my fear.

I remember hearing the same stuff too, Deron will improve, boozer will do this, memo will do that, ak will for sure bounce back...

This rendition of the Warriors is pretty much HD VR pornhub vs your hot girlfriend. She's smoking but she quite doesn't cut it anymore somehow. It's ********

I don't get why we are focusing on the warriors.

We would've lost against the clippers had Blake not gone down.

I think it's very debatable if we could beat the rockets and Spurs in a 7 game series.

Beating the Blake-less clippers in 7 seems to have given some fans the thought that we are the 2nd best team in the west. Interesting.

Gordon is who he is.

He plays in a system and will always pass to someone for a better shot. He has gotten better at "taking his" but it is not in his DNA. I think he will always be a borderline all-star Top 20 player in the NBA. Nothing wrong with that. There are few Lebron, Durants out there.
This off season signing him is key and I am not so sure it is a slam dunk like others think. Money is not an issue for him as he is set for life, generations for life. If he wants a ring, Boston will be his best shot. Best thing for the Jazz would be for Cleveland to sweep Boston to give him pause.....

Gobert is a defensive beast and I love his toughness. I love his emotion as well.

Everyone else ...... strange FA coming. Ingles will get paid so be gone. Hill not worth resigning, Hood has been crap.......

We need a starting PG so bad. If we had a reliable one I think Hayward would be inclined to stay. (I do not count hill)

As such, as was mentioned on the broadcast yesterday, you can't always assume you will get back. I think we had a team this year that if fully healthy should have been able to take GS to at least a game6 if not game7. We didn't. Hood and Ingles lost their way. Hill is not reliable, old and injury prone.
