Off-season Targets

I think we've got to swing for the fences to compete against the warriors, and don't really see any point in aiming lower than that. So I'm all in on Paul George.

That's crazy to me. The stats aren't even very close. Lowry clearly seems to be a tier above Hill.
Yeah, he plays in a system where the ball is in his or DeMar's hands constantly. He is definitely more talented than Hill, but Hill is the better fit and the better defender. That and I would worry more about how Lowry's game ages.

Lowry has been getting better every year. He will age no worse than Hill will.

Late-season rumbles that Kyle Lowry will give legit thought to a free-agent switch to the West are sure to rise in volume after this series

.

I like Hill for 2 reasons: he should be much cheaper and the connection to/with Hayward.

If it was a choice without those two factors, I go Lowry.

Chris Paul, Hayward and then match whatever offer on Joe Ingles. Thats how you run the cap up. Thats win-now.

they can pull that off and keep the salary around $130MM

You resign Hayward ,lock him up and you have a solid offensive backbone and in Gobert our anchor on defense. With good health ,Jazz will always be in the playoffs.
Finding a solid 3rd scorer isn't coming from older veterans.Jazz saw that limitation play out against Golden State where they look slow, tired and past their primes.

I still believe the Jazz have their answers in their young guys but CAN Snyder coach them.Jazz are losing out to a athletic team while Jazz lose because they bought into older (limited) players while their younger players are learning nothing from the bench. They need to play. The younger players could have lost 4 straight to GS just like the older players but gained valuable experience in doing so for next years playoffs.

This summer CALL SNYDERS BLUFF OUT........trade Exum or get off the 21 year olds back.By all accounts Exum has done what Snyder asked of him and been in the doghouse almost all year.Sign Shelvin Mack 3/4 years and see if Mack leads the Jazz as SNYDER WANTS DONE .This ia a wasted playoffs for Exum and Lyles who have learned nothing watching Jazz get swept and probably seeing the Jazz players getting the minutes not even there for next years playoffs.

My take if Exum is around next year ,let Hill sign for more money elsewhere. He played great but the injuries have started with him. Open up the offense and play to Exum's strength as a PG.Trying to turn Exum AND Hood and Burks and Lyles into "3 pt chuckers"looks like Snyder can't coach.Making players play his style and not to the teams strengths.

My starting umit next year would be :

C) Gobert
PF)Lyles
SF)Hayward
SG) Hood
PG) Exum

2nd unit:

C).........,
PF)Favors
SF)Ingles
SG)Burks
PG)........,Teodosic

The only possible big name we can get is Paul George and that is a major risk since he probably won't stay.

Late to the discussion (as always), but count me as more pessimistic about the possibility of prying George away from the Pacers, and more optimistic about his likelihood of staying if he comes.

IAWTP though I would have a cap on Ingles. If we do this, some stud vets may follow for the minimum to get their ring and help build a formidable bench.

If we re-signed Hayward then renounced all FAs, then we'd have enough to max Paul. You may be able to squeak in on the cap hold with Ingles to be able to retain his rights but someone would have to calculate those numbers a little more exactly.

ETA: this is presuming you find a taker for Burks without taking salary back and waiving Diaw.

Paul-Exum-Neto
Hood-Redick
Hayward-Ingles
Favors-Johnson-Diaw-Bolomboy
Gobert-???

Here's basically our cap:

What would the max first year salary be for Hayward? I guessed at ~26M. Subtract out Diaw and Burks and you can offer a max ($25ish M?) to Paul with a couple million left over.
