What's new

Anyone else wonder

If this is as good as this core will be?

I'm curious to see how we will improve this offseason. We will be drafting late and it'll be interesting to see how we manage our financials.

My biggest fear is that gobert and Hayward are our set stars. But that we've topped out. I hope that we haven't whiffed on too many picks to doom gobert and Hayward, as what happened to Memphis, OKC when they had harden, LA Clippers, or even the jazz in the Deron/Boozer/AK/Memo era.

Think about it, Burke, Burks, Exum, Kanter, and Lyles are all zeros. Lyles is our lotto pick from just a few years ago and has contributed less than the jazz bear in this playoff run.

Had Burke, Burks, kanter all played out the same way, but just imagine how great of a series this would be had Exum given us just patty mills production and instead of drafting Lyles we had drafted Booker.

My fear is that we whiffed on too many picks and that this is who we are.

If we actually want to make a legit title run we need two big things. Another consistent scorer (wouldn't Booker be nice about now), and toughness/intensity. We need a mean mother****er on this team. We aren't far off, but we can't fall in love with guys like Ingles, Hood, or expect a lot out of Joe Johnson next year.

Joe Johnson should be the icing on the cake, not the cake.

Huh??

We had 0 "stars" at the beginning of the season and now we have 2...

Thinking Rudy and Gordon have reached their ceiling after their first playoff experience is ludicrous!!!

Gordon can still do more and I'd suggest this loss will burn in his guts all off season and he will come back better again.

Rudy can do SO much!!! Who knows where his ceiling is... He can still defend better ie screens, switching and perimeter and what if he added a few post moves or a 10-12 footer?? MY LORD!

Dante will improve
Hood will improve
Lyles should improve
Alec should be healthy
Favors should be healthy
Quin will improve

At the start of the season if you were to tell me we won a playoff series and got knocked out by the warriors, I'd have thought it a successful year with the playoff experience HUGE for our development.

Passionate post. I appreciate that, but I don't fully agree.

There are some things I think you are right on.

Rudy has not reached his potential. That is true.
I'm not sure how much farther Hayward has, but I'll give him a little room. This experience gives him valuable insight into a playoff run.

Exum - I believe, and hope he has a long way to go BUT he is a big question mark. If you are a Mack lover you will say Exum is not very good.
Hood - Again I have hope. He COULD grow into a big time player for us. He certainly has the ability. I think health may also be a factor on if he ever reaches his potential. He is very prone to getting hurt.
Lyles - Oh Trey. First off let's never draft someone named Trey again. Secondly, Trey only projection is as an offensive player. He looks really flawed to me as someone who should play a major roll for us as a lottery pick ahead of Booker. He looks like a specialist to me, with a limited roll on a good team. I hope I am wrong here.
Favors - SHOULD be healthy? I'm not sure. I just can't even imagine Favors playing like a normal person anymore. He's a Greg Odgen with a little air left in the tires.
Quinn - LOVE him, but I have some concern. Where is the development of Exum and Lyles? If they are so good why aren't they playing a big roll in this playoff run? Where is the PNR?
Burks - Alec will never be healthy in this league for more than a half year in this league again. I was the biggest Burks homer there ever was, but he is done in Utah. I just don't see him involved going forward. This time next year he is gone (or injured on the bench again).

Part of me is just salty from being down 0-3, and part of me is being realistic about our team. I've been following this team for 30 YEARS! 30 glorious yet sometimes painful and unfulfilling years. 1987 is when I started watching all the games as a boy in Orem. I'm sick of being title-less. I want to improve each year, and not be content. I've seen too many great teams not get in done in all these years. Get off my Jazz lawn damn it.

Is there a "Mack lover" on this site? No. There are a couple of people who can see him for what he is, and defend him on those terms. As opposed to evaluating him Exum Homer goggles.

Mack lover. GTFO.
