Off-season Targets

A healthy Hill would have made a huge difference in the playoffs. Maybe even a huge difference in the seedings this season. I have a hard time trusting he is going to be healthy heading into the playoffs in the future. I really like what he brings to the Jazz when healthy but I think he might be too big of a risk at his age and based on what his market value is going to be.

If Exum can make a jump and they more evenly split reps during the regular season, I can see Hill being a HUGE factor in the playoffs. His start to the season was amazing. Until he got hurt, he looked like a max PG all the way. I'm assuming that it will impact his earning potential and give the Jazz a better shot to bring him back. If he does, I hope he stays healthy and KILLS it next year.

Depends on the price we can get him for. Either way it is a risk but I dont think I want the Jazz to take that risk if it is for more than 20 million and especially if it is a 4 year deal he is rumored to be seeking.

Fair enough. Too bad he didn't take the extension offer. That would have been really good for both sides IMO. Jazz probably should have negotiated with Hill and held out for that before making the trade. Shown him that commitment before he even played a game for the Jazz.

Hill is a GREAT fit for our team. He obviously didn't resign and most of us feel a little butt hurt about it because the offer appears to have been a fair one. Perhaps he gets redic bucks going somewhere else. Perhaps he resigns and it was just about contract length, etc. But Hill has to be one of the options for this team. I like Hill for less than $20 million. Hill for $21 is steep. Hill for $21+ is a no go for me.

If Hill does not come back, CP3, PG13, Butler, or another legitimate all star makes us contenders in the West next year and for the next 3 at least. Utah offers an attractive style of basketball, fair and productive coaching, a REALLY smart GM, a direction, defensive anchor, youth, and more. I would have to think that All Stars looking for their next gig would have to think about Utah a lot more than in the past. San Antonio carved it's way into Free Agent's hearts because they WIN and they coach and manage people well, not because of the #nightlife. CP3 has a family. He is a family man. Nightlife doesn't mean what it used to for guys who have been in the league for 6+ years. Marketing options aren't as slim as they used to be because you can film commercials for Nike just as easily in OKC as you can in LA (as Durant demonstrated). So, players are choosing locations where they can thrive more than for the marketing gigs.

I think that the Jazz have a few positions that were weak for us that we need to address via the draft or Free Agency. 1 Defending athletic stretch 4s. If Favors were healthy we would have been fine. Withey was redundant with Gobert healthy and Lyles was NOT that guy. Can Bolomboy be the man for the job? Perhaps. But we all watched the Dante Cunninghams and Josh Powell's of the league light us up too many times.

Speedy Point guards had their way against Hill. I think if he were healthy that wouldn't have been the case, but he was turnover prone in the playoffs and unable to stop Chris Paul for LONG stretches.

Next, a defensive stopper. Gordon Hayward often had to work extra hard to shut down the best player on the other teams while still carrying the scoring load for us. Luc Mbah a Moute meanwhile shut down Gordon for long stretches. We didn't have a go to stopper until Jingles showed up. When jingles was on, the team was on. When he was outmatched, we gave up points a plenty for stretches. A more athletic stopper at the wing would be on my christmas list.

We have a pretty flexible roster:

Favors, Exum, Diaw, & Burks are all sizeable contracts that we COULD move to create space. I think there is enough room for an All Star Free Agent to come on board.
Neto, Withey, Mack, & Ingles are all potentially exiting.

If we do manage to make $$$ available, an All Star or former All Star Free Agents that potentially could be had are:

Andre Iguodala
Jrue Holiday
Blake Griffin
Chris Paul
Kyle Lowry
Paul Millsap
Goerge Paul (Trade)

If we don't want to make $$$ available or if signing Jingles and someone else is the best option here are some next Tier Players:

Derrick Rose (injured)
Serge Ibaka
Dwayne Wade
Taj Gibson
Ersan Ilyasova
Kyle Korver
JJ Redick
Shaun Livingston
Nikola Mirotic
Tony Allen
Otto Porter Jr.
Nerlens Noel
Caldwell Pope
Dante Cunningham
Jonathan Simmons
JaMychal Green
Deron Williams
Among many others...

I would say that we have room to grow, flexible contracts we could move, and assets to boot. Dennis has a big summer ahead of him, not a little one. I hope we get a 3rd All Star type to upgrade this roster even more... but there are lots of solid players that could fit in with us pretty well.

Gotta try for Porzingis. Its a longshot, but we gotta try.

We could give them Favors, Hood, Lyles, Utah 2017 1st, GS 2017 1st, OKC 2018 1st and Utah 2019 1st.

We could also take terrible contracts of Noah and others.

NY could probably get a better deal, but you just never know who their FO values, where they want to send him, etc. Worth a shot.

Dude, honestly, stop. It's not possible.

That didn't work out so well for the Pelicans. They probably thought the same thing. But they were better after getting him when he didn't play.

The Pellies have a **** team and **** organization. They do have brow but they were also headed for the lottery again. Cousins had a good half season for the 5 mins that the kings were stable and competitive a couple years ago. Yes Cousins may just blow up in your face but after George (gunna be a Laker) Butler(Celtics can offer more) CP3(ain't coming here) what do you do? Worst case scenario is you pretend like you enjoy it til you sell him to the Lakers.

I didnt think he was restricted. He's worth an offer. I would give him good money. He's a fighter.

What's good money? You dont overpay for dudes like Jonathon Simmons, you try to find your own. He is nothing special (not trying to speak bad on him, he is solid). He is an athletic wing who cant shoot on a team that desperately needed athleticism. You can find guys like him in the D-League. It's just about having a great team around them so they can flourish and not be asked to do too much.
