What's new

is it disturbing to you guys that the western world is deeply divided?

look, i love all you brothers and sisters on here, even though with some of you i vehemently disagree. but the recent playoff run, made me realize why i joined this here site. and then i realized not only on jfc are people divided, but around the world. some friends of mine refuse to talk to each other because 1 is a right winger other is left winger.

a friend of mine basically broke off all contact with the group of friends. because of politcal views, it is kinda wrong how the world is divided!

people get unfriended on facebook and such just because you post 1 single right wing status, meanwhile i had to live through years of "liberal" facebook statutes and never ever unfriended those people although i vehemently disagreed with their daily left wing status.

there is too much hate in this world, kinda reminds me of the quote from the green mile:
Mostly I'm tired of people being ugly to each other. I'm tired of all the pain I feel and hear in the world everyday. There's too much of it. It's like pieces of glass in my head all the time. Can you understand?

espn alienated half of it's audience. by going left wing!
you tube demonetization model went to crap because Washington post smeared them!

everywhere i look i see this divide!

at least on the jazz forum the divide is not there!

please let us just all accept our diversity. diversity of thought. and live all in FREEDOM!

live and let live!

i love you guys including dalamon, Cappy_Smurf Red fishonjazz

this whole idea of politics as this "you gotta listen to both sides" horserace is a contest that only the privileged can get engaged in.

There's some issues, granted, where there is no clearly correct answer. I can understand where people are coming from when they say they believe that life begins upon the fertilization of the ovum (for example).

Unfortunately, there are also issues where there is a very clear cut logical answer-- and efforts by politicians to ignore those answers are killing men and women everywhere-- America, Canada, Turkey, Europe, etc.

While I understand the importance of civility in political discussion (hard to get to a person through yelling at them) the fact of the matter is that politics matter. Politics matter a ****ing lot. Nearly every detrimental outcome in society that people go through are rooted in society, and the political ecosystem they were raised in.

For some people, they can post about right wing ****, or left wing ****, cry about Hillary Clinton but then go to sleep at night.

Unfortunately, there are millions, billions of people who can't turn their brain off of politics. The decisions made by their political representatives completely dictate the life that they live, so it's hard to expect those people to present no animosity towards individuals who are putting forward efforts to maintain their societal marginalization.

I thought the trend described in the story below was pretty serious stuff. I know, in my own case, my wife and I never argued politics before the 2016 election. So, when I read this recently, it did not bring comfort at all. We are not divorcing, but apparently quite a few Americans are. I do believe we are already in a type of civil war in the United States. No, it's not a shooting war, but when you see trends like this, it's no laughing matter. Yes, I see the West itself is fractured, but the divisiveness specific to my own country is my main concern right now.

"Passionately opposing points of views are not only driving wedges between strangers and even friends, but we are now seeing evidence that this dissent is having a detrimental impact on Americans' marriages and relationships," the report said.

In fact, 24 percent of Americans in a relationship or married and 42 percent of millennials told the survey that "since President Trump was elected, they and their partner have disagreed or argued about politics more than ever."

meh... people should do more team sports - it unites! I could care less if my soccer and basketball teammates are left, right or neutral. As long as they pass the ball;)

It has been as effective in this regard as many big government policies. ;)

"Big government" policies of Western Europe, Scandinavia, and Canada have given millions the economic mobility, education, freedom, and health care that America can only dream of. People born in America are more likely to stagnate in their born socio-economic class, be burdened with thousands of student loan debt, and face inability to receive health care.

That's not what their peers will face in most other "big government" democracies.

But hey! Those billionaires from Kansas sure are doin fine! Give them another tax cut while slashing safety nets, right stoked?

He was alright I think. I got the impression from some SF fans I know that he really under-performed to his potential. Made me think of the things some people said about AK47 on here. Eventually every athletic career comes to an end, however. Not reading too much into it.

Kaep not having a job does not bother me at all. He was well within his rights to voice his opinion exactly how he wanted. Something I supported then and still do.

Unfortunately for him his play has not been good enough for teams to overlook the PR hassle and circus that would most likely follow. As such he is basically getting the cold shoulder. Something the teams are certainly within their rights of doing. They don't have to offer this man a job. He talked himself out of a job it appears.
