Some good news before the teams are announced. Hayward making an All-NBA team would be huge for us. He would then most likely opt-in to the final year of his contract saving us a little over $13 mil in salary this offseason and most importantly keep him on the team for many years to come.

I have a feeling Hayward will be left off. And in my final All NBA predictions I had him just missing. But if Nate Taylor is correct it's huge news for us. It would mean Hayward almost has to be in. Unless they put AD or Cousins at F. Or do something crazy like putting Draymond over Hayward.

I wouldn't assume he'd opt in. He could still sign a 2 year deal with a PO on the second year and be eligible for the big contract next year.

Side note, I looked up this Nate Taylor guys votes for the All NBA teams and NBA awards and he should be banned from voting next year. Seriously.

- He had Rudy THIRD in DPOY
- He put Klay Thompson on the All NBA 2nd Team. Isaiah Thomas didn't make any of the 3 teams.
- He put Jokic on the 3rd Team
- He put Brandon Ingram on the All Rookie 1st and Hield All Rookie 2nd
- He put Kris Dunn on the All Rookie 2nd team over the likes of Jamal Murray, Yogi Ferrell and Tyler Ulis
- He put Klay Thompson as All Defensive 1st team

This guy is the posterchild of everything wrong with NBA award voting. He doesn't do his homework. He doesn't basketball.

Yeah, I found some language that says it has to be a player coming off their 2nd contract. Kind of hard to find reliable info right now, as it looks to me like Larry coon hasn't updated things like this, and I've found conflicting info in different articles on the CBA changes.

Edit: Just found this, so like I said, there is some conflicting info out there.
(The DVE) would set him up to earn about $235 million in the next six years. Hayward would be taking a risk by giving up money in the short term (or he could risk a new, one-year deal with the Jazz), but he would be rewarded with a significant pay bump the following year if he can cinch a spot on the All-NBA team. He can only earn that bump, though, if he stays with Utah.

And this:

Here's a clever option that probably wouldn't have been terribly likely before the new CBA was signed. If Hayward doesn't make the All-NBA team in 2016-17, but he thinks he can in 2017-18 or 2018-19, then he could sign a two-year deal with a player option on the second year. That way, he still allows himself to make Designated Player money before becoming a 10-year veteran, if he ever becomes an All-NBA talent. He just has to opt-out of his deal in the offseason after becoming All-NBA.

Love Hayward and really hope he stays so don't get me wrong but its really scary paying someone 35% of the cap with that designated player allowance...

the really bad one there is the Klay Thompson 2nd team all NBA .. what a joke

35% of the cap for 1 player only, on a team which isnt willing to pay luxury tax... It is hard.

What team isn't willing to pay luxury tax?

Has somebody been smokin' myths again?

Prediction for Forwards:

Lebron, Kawhi, Durant, Green, Butler, Greek Freak. Unfortunately, that leaves Hayward off. Hayward should definitely be above George this year, it is possible he bumps Butler or Greek Freak, but I doubt it. Not that his play didn't earn him All-NBA, but just the way the voting works, and his lack of exposure.

On the Locked on Jazz this morning Locke said that if Hayward made all NBA and still opted out to test the free market that it would be a huge red flag to the Jazz. Would most likely mean he is leaving.

Yeah, if he makes All-NBA and opts out to test the market, then yes, he will be looking to leave. Can't he opt out to just start the DPA contract immediately though?

The Miller family has stated several times that if the team is winning they are willing to pay the luxury tax.

Larry was a badass that was totally willing to spend money. He had a history of consistently spending money. Since he has died the jazz haven't spent money. I hope I am wrong. But putting the jazz into a trust is bad news IMHO. The money is spread to thin among all the Millereites. They need to prove that I am wrong this year and spend money.
