All-NBA Teams Announced Thursday (5-18-17)

Well just got the update on the phone, Rudy 2nd team, no Hayward

1st - Westbrook, Harden, James, Leonard, Davis
2nd - Curry, IT, KD, Giannis, Rudy
3rd - Wall, Derozan, Green, Butler, Jordan

We've done this dance before... we could have signed value deals several years ago. I know we bought a pick, but if we are operating at the floor why are we selling picks with good players on the board.

I don't want us to be the Clippers or Brooklyn and Portland nailed the offseason two years ago and then effed it up the past offseason, but we had ample opportunity to spend with hamstringing the future. Likely cost us the playoffs last year. Not a huge deal.

If we setup all that flexibility and watch Hayward leave it is a fail... if we balk at paying luxury tax to retain Ingles or Hill then what have we saved all this flexibility for? This summer is the acid test... that is all I am saying.

Sometimes it simply comes down to roster spots and not wanting to carry 10 guys who are rooks and sophs. And although you may think there are still good players on the board, our FO may look at it differently. It just bugs me to hear someone repeatedly talking about selling picks when we have also spent when there was a guy we wanted, and Utah has had an overabundance of picks and couldn't possible use them all.

Gobert over Draymond.

I understand and that is a valid point, but you can use them for draft and stash... we also had guys taking up roster spots that were d league guys in prior years. When you are developing guys and mining for gold bringing in 4 rookies might be a necessary evil. More bites at the apple.

Congrats to Rudy!

Sucks DeAndre gets a spot when Hayward and George are left off...

Some people aren't really fans of NBA games, they are fans of draft prospects and front office strategy. HH, with his obsession of the D-league, his concern for how much money the team spends, his concern for drafting non-NBA talent, leads me to an assumption about what category of fan he is.

For what it's worth, I verified this via the NBA's twitter post.

edit: oops, it was someone else's tweet. still verified though

How do they determine when a guy is playing a certain position? Is by who he's playing next to in the frontcourt?

I think so. But at least on the website I quoted, I think it was based on the starting lineup only. There are probably other website that track minutes played at 4 vs 5 for specific lineups throughout the game.

Do we really want Hayward to get the supermax, though? It makes this off season and this coming year a lot nicer, but the numbers on the back end of the contract are truly ridiculous--and in my opinion would seriously hamper the team around 4 years from now.

I'm kind of thinking the best case scenario for us is for Gobert to make the all-NBA team (because it doesn't affect his contract), but for Hayward to miss it (but to still re-sign with the Jazz of course). Certainly financially speaking that seems best.

It's a moot point now but I was looking at it like I would rather have Hayward at the mega-max over not having him at all.

if the jazz paid LT for the DWill years (where they more or less went as far as we did this year) they'll do it again, I think. Greg has been pretty good for spending money where it was needed (Rudy, bringing in players to work out, etc.)
Arena renovations as well

Gobert missed first team by 2 votes.

One first-team vote, two second team votes, or 4 3rd team votes

What really sucks is that Rudy was off of 9 ballots, vs AD's 5. Rudy gets third team on just 4 and he is on first team.

Hard to imagine 9% of sportswriters are clueless enough to think he is not deserving over Gasol/ Whiteside/ Cousins, KAT.

They do not have the sportswriter votes displayed so far. So much for transparency.
