Boston vs Utah for Hayward

The conversation about free agents going to a team in this conference or a team in that conference because the path might be "easier" is really annoying. No matter what team your on and what conference you are in you can't duck anyone. If you're in the East you still have to deal with Golden State. They still exist. If you're in the West you still have to deal with Cleveland. They still exist. Media types harp on that topic too much.

Uhhh no

First just making it to the finals is awesome. 2 **** happens, avoiding a team for an extra series means there is a greater chance for **** ro happen to them before you have to play them. 3 home court advantage would be easier to secure against a super team when you play in the leastern conference and they don't.

Srsly are you going to tell me that if the Jazz were given the choice to swap with the Hawks in the playoffs that they wouldn't have taken it? Of course they would have.
Wizards/Celtics/Cavs/GSW or Clippers/GSW/Spurs/Cavs?

Yes the path is easier. To deny it is silly.

The problem with that thought process is you're assuming Wizards/Celtics/Cavs/GSW will ALWAYS be the easier path than Clippers/GSW/Spurs/Cavs. Let's say a player thinks like this and heads East, goes to the Celtics because it's the "easier" path. What if Cleveland stays just as good, the Celtics improve, Milwaukee takes a leap forward becoming a threat, Toronto gets better with health, Washington's young guards keep improving and make them better, and the Hawks go back to the level they were at a few years ago. Meanwhile in the West age finally gets to the Spurs and they decline, The injury bug hits GSW hard, the Rockets prove themselves to be a one year wonder and fall apart, lob city disbands in LA and Minnesota never puts it together. All of a sudden the West becomes "easier".

It's not a static league. As you said s*** happens. Things change. The path that's "easier" now might not be in a year or two years. You have to beat the best competition regardless.

I doubt players think about going to a team to avoid playing against a certain team for one round. They're thinking about who gives them the best chance to beat anyone while making the most money they can make.

Lol

1 Leonard is 25
2 LBJ is 32
3 the Pellies have Brow and cousins no playoffs
4 Denver and Minnesota probably make the playoffs in the east
5 Fact: eastern conference teams not ran by Ainge are poorly managed
6 the ****ing Lakers always snag a superstar sooner or later
7 are you high or blind? Srsly any objective person can see that the eastern conference will almost certainly continue to be the weaker conference for Hayward's entire career let alone his next contract.

The Jazz have a guy that carried Butler on his back to the National championship game and has had roid rage for 6 years. They have the most athletic guy for his size since Wilt Chamberlain. They have the deepest roster in the NBA. Still they got ****ing anihilated, embarassed, holy God damn curb stomped in the SECOND ROUND!(all gsw major players are under 30) If you think that the east doesn't represent an easier path to the finals then you are either delusional or not paying attention.

Disagree. I have the 76ers and Bucks challenging very soon and GS can't pay 4 All-stars for long.

No, an objective person will see that while it is certainly easier right now that it could be a radically different story in the next 2 -3 season for any number of reasons.

Let's say that the #3 pick for the Sixers blows up and all their players are healthy, the Bucks could land another piece, or Washington or the Raptors...or a trade goes down that moves a star to the east. Portland fleeces Orlando for Lillard...

Point is that 4 years is a long time in the NBA. Anything can happen.

The eastern conference has always been generally easier than the west. They always have really good teams, but their 7-8th seeds would never make a western conference playoffs.

False. They did it this year.

Chicago and Portland both finished 41-41. Both landed the 8th seed. Also Miami (the 9th seed) was .500 as well while the 8th seed in the west, Denver, has 40-42

Edit: They did it last year as well. Last season the 8th seed in the east was Detroit with a record of 44-38 compared the Houston the 8th seed in the west with a record of 41-41.

The east - west gap has significantly narrowed the last couple of seasons.

True since 1998: East won won 31 of 49 titles before 1998

The east is a total ****ing joke n a scham.

they should take the best 16 teams in the NBA and seed them like that.

Dood

The Jazz won 51 games (playing better teams more often) and were the 5th seed. The Cavs also won 51 games(playing crap teams more often) and were the 2nd seed, just 2 games short of 1st.

Good for them. What does that have to do with the 7th and 8th seeds? Which is what I disputed.

The conferences have evened out somewhat. Still harder in the West but it's not what it was.

Guys, Alt is really good at predicting the future. He's proven it before. We should just trust him.

Trust the process. Lol Sixers won't be a real contender anytime soon. The Bucks will be good I'll give you that. Gsw can pay 4 all stars they almost can't afford not to. Think local TV deals. The lakers make 200 million a year. That's the kind of money they are chasing.

No one has a legit shot at a title until the warriors break up either because of contract, injury, or, in-fighting due to boredom and role.

I hate what KD did... it's non-competitive now. It also incentives guys to join up to compete against them... otherwise you are not winning. Hayward's chances to play in the finals increase exponentially in the eastern conference. LeBron is human and will slow down, but it might be two-three years from now. It's just a **** deal tbh.

The Bulls don't win 41 games playing in the west. They were above .500 in conference (east)and below out of conference(west)

OK, sure.

I think the whole east is terrible narrative is over done. But whatever. they suck

Imagine if a team in the West had an all NBA player who wanted to stay in their city and play for their team. Would anyone take trade rumors involving that player seriously? The Bulls failed to build a good team around Butler and rather than take a long hard look in the mirror they are shopping the one guy that they should hold on to? It's crazy

I'm not worried about the Golden State Warriors. I honestly don't think they can keep that team together much longer anyway. I'm sure they'll figure a way to keep Curry and Durant, but Klay and Draymond won't be there long term. A team with Curry and Durant is still good but certainly not unbeatable.

There are bigger things at play right now. I have nothing to back this up, but I have a hunch that there will be a "great depression" coming soon for the NBA "economy". ESPN is having financial difficulties in part because they paid too much to the NBA for the rights to televise their games. TV networks won't splurge like that the next time. The ridiculous amounts of money being thrown at players won't last much longer. The well will run dry. There's no way this financial model works in the long run.
