What's new

Following potential 2017 draftees...

I assumed that. In addition to it you need to dump 5 million more.

Jazz will offer 2018 OKC pick to dump Burks. The Jazz may not mind going $5M into LT for a 55+ win team that's top 3 in the WC.

In that scenario, they've also picked up a replacement back-up C that may help them move Favors, plus a #12 lottery pick. That would be a score. Yeah, not sure it happens.

1 thing for all the Burks dump/LT talk. Can't the Jazz wait til the trade deadline to do this? Might it be better to wait and see what Burks can do? Maybe he plays well enough to the point we can dump him for less? I mean, if we know we can dump Burks at that price, what's the disadvantage of waiting to do it?

They can. But they need to explore the market even now. Maybe someone(Nets?) is desperate enough and accepts a pure salary dump? For example in my mock-draft I had 2 offers for Burks dump. One was with me sending a second and the other one was with the other team sending me a future second for Burks. There will be teams who might want to take a shot on a talented and young player.

The repeater tax kicks in after two years, so I don't think they'll go over this year. The sooner you go over, the sooner you have to make significant changes to get back under.

Yeah, obviously if DL can dump Burks for a 2nd, he should pounce on that. If the price is a 1st round pick I would wait, sign Ingles, then see if Burks can up his trade value during the season.

It's true. The Jazz could reserve judgement on Burks and concurrently decide what they want to do with Hood and Exum. Makes sense.

The repeater rate kicks in if you are in the LT 3 of the last 4 years.

So far, the Jazz have worked out some 2nd-round prospects and Donovan Mitchell. When asked about how the Jazz got Mitchell to come in and work out, Perrin skirted the issue, saying sometimes if a guy isn't in their range an agent will let a player workout in case it's a good fit and the player slides in the draft or the team can move up. Pretty much a non-committal answer.

I'm in love with Donovan Mitchell from his interview. What a classy, smart kid. I'd be happy to cheer for him on my team... hell even if he goes elsewhere he seems like a likeable guy who's easy to root for.

Mitchell is like a more athletic Avery Bradley. You can play him off the ball and a bit on the ball. He's got enough shift and athleticism to create his own shots. The Jazz sorely need someone who can do that. That way, the Jazz don't have to reach for a guy like Shelvin Mack to come in and provide an offensive boost.

Also, they could certainly push it until the trade deadline of the 3rd year, but then you risk having to give up picks because teams know you are desperate.
