The "If Hayward Leaves" Planning Thread

You would sure hope so, but it's possible Hayward doesn't know yet what he's going to do, in which case, everybody is in the dark.

I don't think they know... you can't tell me OKC though KD was gone and look at all the phone calls that went on there. I think if he knew he wasn't coming back he may give them a sign so they can plan... just a thought.

Fire DL, hire Sam Hinkie.

He wasn't wrong... he basically won every trade and was a bit reckless with how he treated media... he was committed to the process that's for sure. I think DL and Hinkie would actually be a good team.

I'd keep DL and just commit to the process.

The process would have rid the Jazz of Hayward everytime. They look for once in a lifetime stars not role players.

This is a real plan for Big Ballers:

- Trade Hood for the 12th pick, grab Donovan Mitchell.
- Trade for the 15th pick by absorbing Allen Crabbe's salary. Draft OG Anunoby
- Draft Ojeleye at 24
- Draft Kuzma at 30
- Draft someone at 42
- Draft someone at 55

All those players are playing this year.

- Trade Joe Johnson for a future draft pick. Be nice to Joe Jesus and make sure it's a contender.
- Renounce rights to all our FA's
- Try to trade Boris Diaw for something of value, like a future 1st rounder
- Try to trade Burks, but dont give up significant asset to do so. If we cant dump him somewhere, just keep him.
- Trade Favors for something, maybe like Mario Hezonja (that could be possible?)

Depth Chart:

Dante Exum - Raul Neto
Allen Crabbe - Donovan Mitchell - Burks
OG Anunoby - Semi Ojeleye
Trey Lyles - Kyle Kuzma
Rudy Gobert - Joe Bolomboy

Pure bedlam, supremely athletic team with little proven outside shooting. It's fun to watch and yet will probably be bad enough to get a top 8 pick at least.

You like everyone here has overrated Hayward. The team is fine without him building on what we have not tearing it all down. Trade away the old vets. Yes, but young guys should stay.

Lol. Of course you would say that. Let me guess, yours is:

- Play Mack 48 mpg.

- everything else will take care of itself.
Lol

Good post except the trade hood for #12 cause we won't know if hayward is gone when the draft happens. (I think)

Edit: nevermind, already been addressed

I'm onboard with trading Hood for the 12th pick...In the long run, Hood is going to end up being a crappier/more injury prone version of CJ Miles or JR Smith.

That's the worst place to be. Would rather bottom out.
I think it'd be pretty hard to bottom out with the DPOY on the team. That's why I don't think a tank will happen. Probably give it a year or two at least to see if a young player or two can take their game to the next level.

That team would be brutal, top 4 pick probably even with Rudy. Not that I'd be totally against it given the upcoming GS dynasty years. Might as well tank right and insure you get Porter, Doncic, or Bamba.

If you can trade Hood for a lottery pick in THIS draft, you pretty much have to do that, no? If Hayward signs, the chances of us matching a max contract offer to Hood next year are pretty slim. If Hayward doesn't sign, Hood is not really a max slot player to build a team around. Any cap flexibility we get with a Hayward defection will be eaten up by Hood. I like Hood, but not at the price he is likely to come at. I value him less than I do Joe Ingles who I think could be had for much cheaper. Jingles + 2017 lotto pick > Hood.

It's a tough situation for DL. We all know Hood isn't worth a max or near max and will be offered it by someone. If DL trades him for a pick though and Hayward walks, all fingers will be pointing at him for not doing enough to keep Hayward.

If Hayward leaves you have to consider trading Gobert, imo. I think gobert is the type to turn down a sizeable chunk of Money to play for a contender. I 100 percent think he values winning a chip and becoming a legend over money. So do you think you can rebuild a legitimate contender in 4 years? I'm leaning towards no. If Hayward leaves we need a full 8 year rebuild. So that we are good long before our core hits UFA.

If he goes to Boston then they are definitely in win now mode. I would try to trade gobert to Boston for mostly not important players Fultz and Brooklyns future pick. I would lean heavily on Hood Burks, and favors. Trade them at the deadline. Joe Johnson Boris Diaw probably get traded this summer in hopes to pick up an asset and as a courtesy. I bring back Ingles and I'm definitely willing to match whatever is thrown at him considering that I have no salary left. I view him as a bridge, a mentor, a lifelong Jazz man, and a potential future coach. I think he's already going to get overpaid in his next contract so his value in a trade is minimal. His in-house value is greater than what we would get back. Hill's probably gone anyway as he is unrestricted and will likely make his decision in concert with Hayward, but if we were to sign him before a Hayward decision to leave I think that he's in the same boat as Ingles. Hold on to Exum cuz he can only go up, he isn't worth much now and there is a small chance that he could grow up into something much more. Lyles dido but smaller chance.

Now we have lost most of the Jazz but we have Fultz, Ingles, Exum, Lyles, (maybe Hill) 4 top 5 picks in the next 3 years, and whatever we can wring out of Favors, Hood, JJ, Diaw, and Burks.

No, you keep Gobert. He has 4 years left on his contract. If the future doesnt look great in 2020 then you think about trading him.

Yes, but this move opens up the door for retaining Favors and Jingles. I'm not really sure that Hayward would view Hood as irreplaceable, especially with how inconsistent he is at times and the near constant injuries. Moving Hood a 22 pick in a mediocre draft for a lottery pick in a remarkable draft while freeing up money for the guys Hayward supposedly is closer to seems like a win for everyone. Hayward's window will just be starting with the Jazz, not rapidly closing.

I don't ultimately believe you can get a lottery pick for Hood though, so this is mostly moot.

You don't trade Gobert. The odds of you getting another player like him, ever, are nonexistent . You will never get the value back for him that he brings to your team. You could possibly replace what you got from Hayward. You will never get another Gobert.
