Sign and Trade Hayward to Boston?

Celtics set to have 3 first-round picks in 2018 (own, Nets, Lakers) and 4!! first-round picks in 2019 (own, Kings, Grizzlies, Clippers).

If they do make a trade, Boston has a golden mine of assets.

According to Woj the Celtics won't be getting the Lakers 2018 pick and the Kings 2019 pick in the Sixers trade. They will only get one of the two. They will get the Lakers 2018 pick if it is somewhere 2-5 in the draft order. If not, Philadelphia keeps it and the Celtics will get the Kings 2019 pick. So the Celtics will either have 3 first rounders in 18 and 3 in 19 or 2 in 18 and 4 in 19.

They are getting only one of the Lakers and Sacramento picks, not both. They get the lakers pick if it's 2-5, if not they get SAC pick.

Win win.

I can't imagine BOS doesn't use some of these 7 picks over the next two years to get some win now talent.

I think it has the potential to be pretty bad for Boston. If they don't get Butler/PG13 they just split a major high end asset into two smaller assets while not having the roster spots to develop all those picks. Ainge has been trying for ages to trade for a star and hasn't been successful. Those picks depreciate in value the moment you draft them and sit them on the bench.

Sign and trades are exactly the same price. Hayward cannot get any more money in a sign and trade than straight signing with another team.

Ainge thinks Jackson will be better than Fultz. So it is a first rounder for free, from his perspective. Risk is he could be wrong.

Well crap. Hopefully, they might consider a sign and trade to clear off the books for another big deal. I would definitely take Zeller's expiring $8 million if it meant getting Smart, Jalen Brown, or Crowder. We would be losing Hayward in the process so we would have the money.

Dream with me a second and y'all tell me if this is possible.

Boston lets Olynyk go removing that cap hold.

Utah signs and trades Hayward for Zeller, Crowder, Jalen Brown, and Marcus Smart ($25 million in contracts).

Boston signs Blake Griffen to a max contract.

IT, Avery Bradley, Horford and the rest of the roster combine to make around $45 million. So this scenario is feasible right? There are numerous reports that Boston wants Hayward or Griffen. With this, they get them both to create a super team.

IT
Bradley
Hayward
Griffen
Horford
And all those draft picks the Celtics have accumulated....

Loved how we helped create one super team, so you're dreaming about how we can help create another, eh?

If worse came to worse, I guess I'd prefer this to Hayward walking with no compensation. Jaylen Brown has some upside, and Crowder helps deal with an immediate need. Smart is at least a semi-useful body to fill the void that will undoubtedly be left by Hill and Ingles if Hayward is gone. That leaves us with a team that will be super ugly on offense, but has some real defensive potential.

But Zeller's guarantee date is July 2. I at least want to dream that we're still in the running for Hayward at thatpoint, so I'm not sure the timeline fits.

Are you a Boston fan? Is that what your dreams for the Jazz are?

Honestly, I don't want to lose Hayward for nothing. Crowder, Brown, Smart, whatever is better than cap space.

I've done some more research this morning and it's possible. The Celtics trading #1 for #3 just saved them $1.2 million. If they renounce Olynyk, they have much more money.

If Boston can trade Zeller, Bradley, Crowder and Rozier ($25), they could sign Hayward to max or near max ($28-30). They would probably keep Smart because he makes half as much as Bradley, is younger and is a restricted free agent after next season. They can keep Brown and Smart for what Bradley makes next year.

This isn't as exciting for us except.... Boston would send us picks to make this happen. If we can get one or two of their many 1sts to take this salary dump deal, thats so much better than losing Hayward for nothing. And honestly, I think Crowder is on one of the best non-rookie deals in the entire league. $7ish for a starter is amazing.

I don't think it's guaranteed. His guarantee date is 7/2...

basketball insiders has the most accurate contract details.

Also Boston is NOT doing SnT with us. If they want to clear salary they can do it and get assets for it, not gift us assets...
To get Griffen AND Hayward, they will have to do a sign and trade with either us or the Clippers. I would rather it be us. I dont want Zeller, but I would want Crowder, definitely Bradley, Smart, Brown and/or picks.

Bradley, Exum, Neto
Hood, Burks
Crowder, Ingles
Favors, Lyles, Bolomboy
Gobert, Zeller
Plus #24, #30 whatever from the draft.

I'm happy with that team. Hayward is better than any of those guys, but those guys are still proven NBA players.

Please just stop. They arent trading for Hayward. They would just sign him. If they need to clear cap-space, they can offload those players elsewhere for additional assets.

If they want to do SnT they will do the bare minimum that would make the trade possible, not throw in every useful player we might have interest in. This is not realistic. The bare minimum would be either Bradley or Smart or Crowder, not all of them.

I hate boston. As I have said before, they are basically set up so well that anything that they do or don't do well still end up great.

They are going to be a top 3 seed for many years to come even if they make every wrong decision possible. Lucky ****s.

They need injury issues like the jazz have seen the last few years

How many times do I have to say it: THIS IS FOR HAYWARD AND GRIFFEN.

Yes, they can sign Hayward straight up. We all know that. But if they want both, they have to clear out some contracts. I'm sure they could trade Bradley here and Crowder there, etc, but it is possible they just do it with us. Once Boston was to go in full on sell mode to try to sign both Hayward and Griffen, the value of Bradley, Crowder, etc will fall sharply.

Its worth a shot and I choose to be an optimist even if odds are short.
