Ricky Rubio

I like Rubio and all, but he is basically as bad of a fit as you can get with Utah, especially if Hayward leaves.

He's the anti-George Hill offensively. Everything that made Hill amazing fit in our system is everything that Rubio is horrible at. Rubio needs the ball in his hands, while Hill doesn't. Rubio cannot shoot the 3, cannot pull up and cannot finish at the rim. Pretty much the only use Rubio is on offense is creating offense for his teammates. Which means you would have to take the ball away from Hayward's or Hood's hands. Not ideal.
+If the Jazz play Favors and Gobert in the front court, that makes 3 non-shooters on the floor at the same time. Horrible fit!

DL: Hello?
Layden: ...
DL: Hello?
Layden: Yes, is.. is this Mr. Lindsey?
DL: This is Dennis. Who's this?
Layden: Good evening, Dennis, my name is Scotty Layden. I'm calling on behalf of the Minnesota Timberwolves. You're familiar with them?
DL: I've heard the name. Listen, I'm kind of in a rush..
Layden: Oh I understand, sir. This will only take a moment of your time.
DL: Make it quick. I'm about to get into the jacuzzi.
Layden: I'm calling to offer you the opportunity of a lifetime.
DL: ...
Layden: You're familiar with the all-time assist leader, all-time steals leader, greatest PG of all time, white thunder, the badass man from Spokane, Mr. Handsome, the pasty gangster, John Stockton?
DL: Of course. You realize I run the Jazz?
Layden: You know I drafted him?
DL: You're ****ting me.
Layden: I **** you not.
DL: Go on.
Layden: I'm sitting here looking at a kid throwing passes like him. He was born in Barcelona in the early 90s. Did you know Stock spent some time in Barcelona in the early 90s?
DL: Don't beat around the bush.
Layden: I'm offering you the chance to add Spanish Stockton to your roster.
DL: What's his name?
Layden: Ricky Rubio.
DL: I'm sure you're aware we're looking for shooters. What are his numbers?
Layden: He shot 80% from the three point line in the month of March in road games against teams whose city name and mascot name begin with the same letter.
DL: Look, I'm gonna have to let you go. It was nice catching up.

This.

I like all his playoff experience he would bring.

Rubio is a better defender than Hill. Better passer, obviously. Shooting percentage sucks but he plays for a team that's had four coaches in six seasons. The guy needs some coaching and to be told what shots to improve on or not take.

He's a career 37.5% shooter from the floor and 31.5% from three. Even allowing a gigantic margin of error that we could attribute to coaching turnover to play devils advocate, he still shoots horribly.

Can anyone find someone with a worse career FG% who's been in the league for more than a few years and was a starter?

Pass. I actually think I'm passing on everyone but Hill or Beverley at this point. If you can't get either of those guys who really fit the Jazz system to a T, go out and make a deal for an upgrade at PF and bring in Teodosic/Williams to platoon with Dante for half a season until he's ready. Or maybe just start Dante from the beginning.

Is this football? Are we only playing Teodosic on defense? Is Shaun Livingston a bad fit for the Warriors because he can't shoot 3's?

Are you seriously that dense? We have arguably the best defense in the league so let's add a defensive sieve because he makes cool passes. You literally said you'd rather lose and watch him play than lose otherwise. How about we lose while having a chance with a player who can slow down Curry and not let him drop 50. Come on man you can't be this dumb.

But you can be this dumb.

Is Shaun Livingston a bad fit on the Warriors because he cant shoot 3's?

Or is it like, they are such a great 3pt shooting team they can afford to have a non-floor spacer who strengthens their decision making and defense?

Livingston comes off the bench people are talking about Teodosic starting.

I dont get how a player that strengthens your weaknesses is a bad fit. He might not be a *perfect* fit because of the defense, but it in no way makes him a bad fit.

Rubio is a bad fit because he can't shoot.

Teodosic is a good fit even though he can't play defense.

We have players who can make up for his bad defense but even though we have players to make up for Rubio's bad shooting he's still a bad fit because I don't like him.

Cy's logic ^^^

In all fairness it is easier to cover up a bad defender than a bad shooter.

The Jazz are a top 3 defensive team.

If the Jazz lose Hill, and as I prefaced part of the "Rubio is a bad fit argument", and Hayward, then the Jazz barely have any shooting. Yes, Rubio is an awful ****ing fit. We also play the slowest paced game in the NBA, furthering the wonkiness of the fit as the Jazz would have to change their style drastically to make Rubio fit, not only in pace, but in how they run their half-court sets also.

Why is this hard for you to grasp?

Further, if you are playing Rubio (and you keep Exum), then playing Exum/Rubio lineups is very difficult. Lineup versatility is part of Utah's identity. Signing Teo allows you to play more lineups that make more sense.
