Academics Gone To The Dogs

I'd talk about how they're just animals, but then Trout would threaten to burn my cat alive again.

Mmmmmm, burned caaaaat.

(....waiting for Marcus to use this "story" as a platform for why all of academia is out of touch................)

I'm thinking that these people have waaay too much time on their hands.

Word on the street is they get treated better than kids nowadays. . . . .lonely old folks whose actual kids don't care, looking at the "adopted kids" who pretty much love back unconditionally. . . . . A smart lawyer would dump the investment management legal field and take up re-doing wills and estates for the happy parents. . . . .

I have called my dog a stupid ****ing ******* ******** for years and he just wags his tail and grins like the moron he is. Glad I never called him "pet" or he might not blindly love me so much.

I don't have a problem with academia. Just retards that say calling your animal a pet is demeaning.

My dog is a member of my family. I love her just like I love my wife and kids. That being said, I call her, 'bitch' half of the time, and, 'stupid', the other half.

She loves me.

well, this is so confusing....

is pet a noun or a verb?

what about petting?

maybe it's a gerund?

(that sounds like it could be a haiku, but the syllable count is wrong)

I read the summary of this on Newser and wasn't interested enough to read the full article then; I'm still not now. From what I got though I think the issue wasn't that it matters to them that you call them a pet, it is that by calling them that it MIGHT change the mindset of SOME owners and cause them to treat their pets worse. I don't really care one way or another, but if that is the case I at least am okay with that being suggested as a friendly reminder, but it's definitely not gonna happen nor should it. Also, that was quite the run-on sentence. You're welcome.

Signed,

Trout's wife.

Nothing prevents an academic from being a first-class nutjob advocating for some cause they are emotionally invested in. That's pretty much the explanation for the Journal of Animal Ethics.

and this really reminds me of my dear Nana, who always objected to my referring to other children as "kids" - - she'd say "A kid is a baby goat, are you telling me you're going out to play with baby goats?"

Had I been smart enough, I would've referred to them as pets.

I thought snot-nosed brats was the correct terminology?
