Sign Hayward, Trade for Millsap

If Hayward stays (c'mon buddy), trade Favors, Diaw, and Neto for Millsap ($25).

Why for Atlanta - Millsap is an unrestricted free agent. Getting anything for him is a positive. Favors went to Ga Tech and would provide a little buzz to sell tickets as they rebuild.

Why for Utah - I can't think of a better, realistic fit next to Gobert and Hayward. Millsap has a comprehensive game. If not for Giannis having more 1st team votes, Millsap would have been in a NBA defensive team yet again this year. With Rubio, we need a PF who can spread the floor. We just gave $13 to Ingles who is 30 soon. Its obvious we are making a go at this thing now. Millsap is 32, but he has a ton of quality time left the way he plays. Lets go get the best PF we can to round out the roster.

I think we are a contender if we bring back Hayward and add Millsap. We might need injury help or a miracle, but it could happen with these guys.

1 Bolomboy, Joel $1,312,611.00
2 Burks, Alec $10,845,506.00
3 Mitchell, Donovan $2,621,280.00
4 Exum, Dante $4,992,385.00
5 Favors, Derrick $12,000,000.00
6 Gobert, Rudy $21,224,719.00
7 Hayward, Gordon $29,700,000
8 Bradley, Tony $1,414,920.00
9 Hood, Rodney $2,386,864.00
10 Ingles, Joe $12,000,000.00
11 Johnson, Joe $10,505,000.00
12 Neto, Raul $1,471,382.00
13 Rubio, Ricky $14,250,000.00

We probably will need to either dump Burks(or stretch him?) or pay luxury tax. Or trade Favors for future asset and get a cheap replacement.

I wonder how much Millsap will get. Favors+Burks+pick for Millsap at 23M(4/100 but starting at 23) and we pay the tax. Add 2 vet mins to round up the roster.

C: Gobert -Bradley - min contract

The biggest problem with a Millsap trade is that we almost certainly lose Hood and Exum going forward.

Would you do that(and pay the tax)?

I do it because it's a symbol of intent.

Next year, we let JoeJ go which saves money. And we hope that Burks is able to return to usable form. If so, his expiring would be easy to move next summer.

The long term plan would be to keep Exum and Hood with Burks and Joe as casualties. Then Rubio will be the big call in 2 years.

Do we know that Joe starts @ $12 million?

I'd do it if they took the Burks contract as well, then I'd. Try to trade Exum or Hood at the deadline and keep the other.

Wolves signed Taj so they are out on millsap.

If Atlanta wanted to do Favs and Burks for millsap I'd be game but I'd be really reluctant to do 4/100... I'd hope to do 3/75 or 3/75 with a light guarantee in 4th year... say 5M

Also wouldn't include any picks in that trade. Favs and Burks is better than 23M in space for them imo.

They probably signed Taj because Millsap wants too much.

TBH, I think Favs is more valuable than Millsap. Paul is an undersized PF. We already have a great small-ball 4 in Joe Johnson. He gives Utah something Paul cannot: an ISO player who can still get a good shot off if the offense breaks down near the end of the clock. Come playoff time, he's also a stone-cold killer.

Favs gives Utah a legit back-up 5. Gobert at 35; Favors 13 at the 5. Not a better center rotation in the league, IMO. Also, Jazz were very lucky to have an incredibly durable Gobert. If he misses 10-15 games? I feel very good about having Favs start at the 5. Not so good about Bradley.

My gut has been telling me for weeks Favs and pieces for a S&T Millsap. Derrick's "blessing" tweet (he's from ATL) just seems to coincidental.

Millsap to UTA.

Age and money are huge concerns, but speaking strictly-basketball, there are only a couple players that would be better fits.

I also don't know how you can keep Hood or Exum going forward considering their extensions coming up.

So, I probably throw Exum in with Favors. As a starting point.

Burks has to go. And I would love for the Jazz to keep Hood but I'm just not seeing how they can afford it with Millsap and everyone else.

Damn it, I really want Millsap though.

That probably means Exum and Hood are gonners next year. That's a steep price to pay for a guy (who I totally admire and like as a basketball player) on the wrong side of 30.

EDIT - What NUMBERICA said.

Pronounced in the german way it is a *****, so there is that.

Lady lump? Cleft of venus? Loved mound? I can use more archaic or vulgar terms for the same body part but not the scientific name of said part. Weird.

I would prefer Patrick Patterson for the MLE and Favors. If Favors is healthy and plays well like 2015 Favors or better we can try and extend him or we can get a lot more for him in trade. Patterson would be an excellent backup and can play some C, especially against small ball type teams. Patterson can also start if Favors has more health problems. This also allows Favors to get some minutes at backup Center where we need someone since our only C beyond Rudy is a somewhat raw rookie.

Now if Millsap would sign for the MLE here that would change my mind. He would be better than Patterson in the short term. But not for 3X the salary.

Maybe our coaching staff could help him shoot well from 3 but at his age I doubt he is going to start shooting well from there. He does have tons of other offensive versatility though. He is a career 26% shooter from three point range in the playoffs. He shot 24% 2 years ago and 17% this year from 3 in the playoffs. Rubio shot the same from three this regular season as Millsap and for their careers they are the same, he is not a stretch 4, but a really good all around player. Calling Millsap a stretch 4 is like calling Rubio a PG that can space the floor with shooting.

Millsap was one of the all time favorite Jazz players when he was with us. I think that has blinded some to wanting him back at any cost.
