I would prefer Patrick Patterson for the MLE
Me too, but what makes you think that Patrick Patterson is going to make that little?

I actually kind of agree with this now that Jimmy Butler and PG13 are out of the equation. The greedy side of me isn't willing to use Favors to make it happen. Burks, Diaw and draft picks might be enough to work out the sign and trade. I'd rather keep Favors for depth and injury protection and then see what his value is at the deadline. I'd love one year of a Gobert/Favors/Millsap frontcourt. If we are trying to contend, we need the best player available. For as much as Favors is a solid player, he's not near the player or fit Millsap is offensively or defensively.
Go big or go home. If we get Millsap now, we are sure to have him. As it stands now, Favors, JoeJ, Exum and Hood are all issues for next summer anyway. Millsap for the next 3-4 years is better than Favors for 1.

How will next year be better? Favors and JJ will both be free agents. Jazz will still probably be operating over the cap. No room to add a stud unless you trade for one. Maybe Burks could bring something back, but I think they'll move him this year for cap relief.I think that unless an amazing deal (like Houston's deal last year with Nene, or something of that ilk) comes our way, then we should stand pat with Favors this year. I think next year's PF market is going to be much better for us price-wise.
This is a pretty big reversal of opinion for me. But unless a James-Johnson-type deal comes our way, then we just accept that Favors will be a highly motivated bridge to 2018-19. I don't want to risk losing Exum or Hood for middling talent.

Age and money are huge concerns, but speaking strictly-basketball, there are only a couple players that would be better fits.
I also don't know how you can keep Hood or Exum going forward considering their extensions coming up.
So, I probably throw Exum in with Favors. As a starting point.
Burks has to go. And I would love for the Jazz to keep Hood but I'm just not seeing how they can afford it with Millsap and everyone else.
Damn it, I really want Millsap though.
If Utah can trade Favors you can guarantee him a starting spot. Can he be a starter on a playoff team anywhere else? IDK.
He's also chronically injured, has always had questions about his motor, isn't a shooter, and appears to be moving on already.I'll take a healthy 26 yr old Favors over a undersized 32 yr old Millsap(PF) everyday of the week. He's cheaper with more upside, younger and can back up Gobert better than a 19 yr old Bradley or Millsap can.You don't toss away your future (Exum/Hood)as extras for short term gains, especially to bloom for another team. It's the way farm teams operate.
Jesus Christ, no. Millsap is 32.5 when the season starts, has never done very well in the playoffs, and given how dominant the Dubs are gonna be this year and maybe next, I don't wanna be banking on a 34-36 year old Millsap in the playoffs when it's our window to shine.

I go back and forth. I'd like the Jazz to use their available assets to add another star. I'm not convinced it comes from internally (unless Donovan Mitchell is that guy) and they LOSE a ton of their assets next year when Favors, Hood and Exum all hit free agency. This is the time to do something bold. It makes me nervous to spend big money and assets on a guy as old as Paul Millsap. If there's a better option out there. . . I hope the Jazz make that move. I guess it kind of depends on what kind of contract Millsap is really going to get.Sorry for the slight hyperbole. Regardless, he stinks in the playoffs and is old as fugg and paying a guy that much at that age is dumb.
