Sign Hayward, Trade for Millsap

If we are trying to contend, we need the best player available. For as much as Favors is a solid player, he's not near the player or fit Millsap is offensively or defensively.

Go big or go home. If we get Millsap now, we are sure to have him. As it stands now, Favors, JoeJ, Exum and Hood are all issues for next summer anyway. Millsap for the next 3-4 years is better than Favors for 1.

I actually kind of agree with this now that Jimmy Butler and PG13 are out of the equation. The greedy side of me isn't willing to use Favors to make it happen. Burks, Diaw and draft picks might be enough to work out the sign and trade. I'd rather keep Favors for depth and injury protection and then see what his value is at the deadline. I'd love one year of a Gobert/Favors/Millsap frontcourt.

I think that unless an amazing deal (like Houston's deal last year with Nene, or something of that ilk) comes our way, then we should stand pat with Favors this year. I think next year's PF market is going to be much better for us price-wise.

This is a pretty big reversal of opinion for me. But unless a James-Johnson-type deal comes our way, then we just accept that Favors will be a highly motivated bridge to 2018-19. I don't want to risk losing Exum or Hood for middling talent.

I'll take a healthy 26 yr old Favors over a undersized 32 yr old Millsap(PF) everyday of the week. He's cheaper with more upside, younger and can back up Gobert better than a 19 yr old Bradley or Millsap can.You don't toss away your future (Exum/Hood)as extras for short term gains, especially to bloom for another team. It's the way farm teams operate.

How will next year be better? Favors and JJ will both be free agents. Jazz will still probably be operating over the cap. No room to add a stud unless you trade for one. Maybe Burks could bring something back, but I think they'll move him this year for cap relief.

Me too, but what makes you think that Patrick Patterson is going to make that little?

I am not sure of that at all. But there are not a lot of teams with more room than the MLE and Patterson was a backup player who only scored 6.8 points and 4.5 rebounds. He also was also the backup before they traded for Ibaka to Pascal Siakam who is a rookie. I think that fact makes teams nervous. The only reason a lot of people like him is for his advanced statistics, not his normal stats. I think there is a chance he goes for less, but that is just my hope for us.

Favors won us a game 7 on the road last year.

He was injured and is now in a contract year.

Wouldn't shock me at all if he had his best year of his career this season. I have no issues going into the season with him at the 4.

If it doesn't work out his contract is super easy to move at the deadline.

I am leaning this way as well. But wont we only have the MLE to offer a PF next off season? Or are you thinking there will be a trade next off season?

Age and money are huge concerns, but speaking strictly-basketball, there are only a couple players that would be better fits.

I also don't know how you can keep Hood or Exum going forward considering their extensions coming up.

So, I probably throw Exum in with Favors. As a starting point.

Burks has to go. And I would love for the Jazz to keep Hood but I'm just not seeing how they can afford it with Millsap and everyone else.

Damn it, I really want Millsap though.

Enter Donovan Mitchell.

If Utah can trade Favors you can guarantee him a starting spot. Can he be a starter on a playoff team anywhere else? IDK.

I'm not talking about Favors. I'm done with him, honestly. I had my doubts about him when the Jazz had three bombers around him and Gobert, then they grabbed a brick-layer at PG. Additionally, there's a chance that he will be perpetually hobbled, but if he isn't and has a good year, the Jazz probably won't be able to afford to keep him. Additionally, his agent said he's gone if Hayward stays (and the Jazz shouldn't want Favors if Hayward leaves).

The fit just is not there. I will be relieved to not have to worry about what is happening with a player I quite like but can't stay healthy, doesn't fit, and has been signaling his departure.

He's also chronically injured, has always had questions about his motor, isn't a shooter, and appears to be moving on already.

Not sure if this happens, but I think there is a big deal floating out there. Something along the lines of ---

Eric Bledsoe, a Jazz player and possibly Paul Millsap ends up in Cleveland

Kevin Love ends up in Utah

Favors ends up in Atlanta

Kyrie maybe ends up in Phoenix

Just me guessing and connecting loose threads, but I think a few of these guys are going to move. Deal wouldn't happen until Hayward decides where he's going.

Jesus Christ, no. Millsap is 32.5 when the season starts, has never done very well in the playoffs, and given how dominant the Dubs are gonna be this year and maybe next, I don't wanna be banking on a 34-36 year old Millsap in the playoffs when it's our window to shine.

Now, if we can get him (at about 15M per, maybe) and filler (then cut him) for Favors and Burks, maybe.

Sorry for the slight hyperbole. Regardless, he stinks in the playoffs and is old as fugg and paying a guy that much at that age is dumb.
I go back and forth. I'd like the Jazz to use their available assets to add another star. I'm not convinced it comes from internally (unless Donovan Mitchell is that guy) and they LOSE a ton of their assets next year when Favors, Hood and Exum all hit free agency. This is the time to do something bold. It makes me nervous to spend big money and assets on a guy as old as Paul Millsap. If there's a better option out there. . . I hope the Jazz make that move. I guess it kind of depends on what kind of contract Millsap is really going to get.

I would love Millsap to come back.
Would bust out his jersey for game 1
