What's new

Otto Porter

I'm not getting too excited to make a run at someone only to have them plucked away at the last minute by matching a deal

This feels like a futile exercise just to have the appearance of doing something in the wake of Hayward's decision.

It also tells me Hayward told the Jazz early today about his plans and all the stuff Utah said about not knowing was a just a favor to Hayward's agent. Someone posted around noon that they saw Porter and DL together at an airport.

Why don't they offer Michael Jordan. Oh yeah cause it's stupid.

Jazz are mad, now they want to make it hard for the Wizards. They'll still resign him even if we offer the max

Porter has always been solid, but I wouldn't have thought he was destined to be a Max player.

Also, I hate how the rich get richer and the poor get poorer in the league right now. This feels oligarchical. The jazz built right only to feed the rich. Pretty fat dicky moves throughout the league.

Love it - after calling Hayward a third option for years we can now pin our hopes and max money on a true third option in Porter.

Porter is good but is obviously would have to be a sign and trade.

He's better than Hayward was at the same age. You have to overpay for players on the right track with potential left.

Do not sign Porter. Do not sign anyone. It's time to burn it down and retool. Everyone is available in trade except Rudy and guys on rookie deals. I don't want to be 6-10 in the West every single year.

Then when Porter bails in a few years for a "contender"we can do this all over again. Our new role as an all-star farm team has begun.

What could DL's plan be?

Maybe the Wizards really dont want to pay OP long-term, but are interested in getting vets back?

Favors would be an upgrade at center for them and Joe Johnson would be a good fit for their team.

So would trading JJ and Favors be enough to get Porter if the Jazz took back a bad contract from the Wizards (they have some doozies).

I just find it hard to agree with this. I think you have to try and be competitive for at least two more years. You can still trade Gobert if he has 2 years left on his contract and get huge value. Jazz should try to maximize what they can until then.

I'm ready for DL to work some magic.

What? When Gordon was in play we go all out and on the verge of competing? He decides to leave and now we burn it down. I strongly disagree. There is a good core in place and could still compete. I'm a Jazz fan not a individual player fan and I still wanna compete.

Seems like a waste of two years honestly. What are we maximizing? We aren't going to be better than 6th in the west over the time. A mid first round pick each year is unlikely to help us. We don't have cap room to improve. Seems like it would be putting off the inevitable fact that we need to retool the roster. It also wastes 2 years of Rudy's prime. Burn it down now and we have a chance to get back in the hunt in 2-3 years when Rudy is still 27/28.

We aren't competing for anything now. Except a 6-8 seed. We don't have the cap or the picks to replace Hayward. We have to quickly retool the roster so we can compete while Rudy is still young.
