Just finished eating. Got Old Faithful, which is their standard burger. The patty was cooked well-done, which made it a bit dry. That's too bad as it is a thick patty of Angus beef.

They fry the insides of the bun, which along with the dripping caramelized onions, makes for one greasy sandwich.

The cheese was extremely mild, and it barely tasted of cheddar. Disappointing given the name of the place.

5/10. A step up from Smash burger, but similar greasy style. I am going to try it again without the fried bun next time.

What's the setup like? The little "tapless tap room" setup was cramped. I've also never had a good experience dealing with Epic employees.

I have not been yet... I really need to. Its a separate location from Epic Brewery that is no state st though. I think this took over for the Annex or something like that. Its called Black Sheep at Epic Brewing.

The brewery is still on state st. I go to that one every now and then because they have a beer I want to try. But I agree that I dont like their setup and I generally dont like the employees. Epic Beer is meh to me as well and very overpriced. Some of them are good but its lower on my favorite breweries list.

All these new breweries opening are really great. I love driving around Friday afternoon to Red Rock, Uintah, Proper, Mountain West Cider, Fisher and ROHA and grabbing a couple beers from each for get together s with friends.

Have you tried ROHA yet? This place makes pretty simple beers that are really well made.

I am excited for Kiitos and Toasted Barrel to open up. Kiitos is supposed to be a more eco friendly high tech way of brewing. Toasted Barrel is going to focus on Sour Beers and Barrel aged beers.

I agree with your take on Epic. They have some good beers, and they have some that are just okay, nothing that I'd get really excited about. Used to rave about them, but that was before the local breweries were really making the variety they make now.

I think they just have their 4 beers that 2 of them are 4% but some of the best 4% beers I have had. Their IPA is 6.5% and solid, not the best in Utah but really good.

It's obviously still fast food but for the price it's great quality.

I have decided that I don't like the burgers from crowne, atlantis, Apollo, etc. After many years of going to those places (I would always go back after a long hiatus forgetting that the burgers just are not that good) I have decided enough is enough. They literally have the best fry sauce out there and really good fries and even carry coke products over Pepsi which is always a plus. But their burgers consistently suck and leave me feeling like ****.
They used to have Philly cheesesteak and pastrami sandwiches and they were great but for some reason they took them off the menu.

It surprises me that you don't like Apollo. I wonder if it's a location issue? I've never had anything but a great burger from any of them and my kids love the place. I guess I could understand our two resident foodie snobs (Omar and Ron) not liking a chain joint.

My sister worked for the original JCW's from the start. I've had one bad burger from their Lehi location. If you see a **** ton of charcoal smoke coming from the stack don't go inside. You'll be tasting lighter fluid and probably have such a long wait that it's not worth returning the meal for a new one.

I am not a big fan of Apollo but I will say I think it depends on the location, as I have had drastically different results in different spots.

I still love Crown Burger, and maybe it is location again but the state street location (I think that's it, the best parking spot for Jazz games, that one) and the Layton lcation always have fresh everything, cooked perfectly, tastes awesome. The crown burger is one of my favorite burgers.

All these fancy "gourmet fast food" burger places end up being largely the same. Often the meat is seared too hard or overcooked, and they too often mistake making it big and messy with making it actually taste good.
