Game Of Thrones

Also, when Cercei was in the dungeon w/ the Maester, I was super disappointed by the secret weapon. A wooden cross-bow (that isnt even that big)? **** out of here. I was hoping it would be some badass ****.

That is called ballista.

Ballista is one of the biggest revolutions in warfare and weapons history.

Yup, this is a massive change. If they hit a dragon with that it's seriously wounded and very possible dead depending on where they hit it. The dragons will be forced to remain airborne and constantly moving. They land, or hover, and they will be to slow to dodge the missiles and these things will kill them quickly.

This is and dragonfire (the green explosive liquid) are by far the two best realistic counters to the dragons. Nothing else even comes close.

Ballista's aren't that mobile and would be significantly less effective in an open field tho. Anyway looking forward to the next episode.

I think they could be used from towers on defence, this way they can catch dragons by surprise and it would still be somewhat protected from their fire.

Thats how they were traditionally used, the Romans had a smaller mobile one that was used in open fields.

I thought this way too. Throw in Bran too. The kid will absolutely become very powerful.

I believe Sam will play a vital role too.

For sure they have drawbacks. But Cersei knows they are coming to kings landing. I would have lined the walls and every tower with ballista. If they are already in place and mounted correctly you can have fairly good range of movement to aim with. Also highly effective against any siege towers or ships in the harbor. Taking out the dragons and ships should be top priorities.

Are you thinking of scorpions? Basically they launched bunches of arrows at once. Highly effective against massed infantry and cavalry. Much lighter and easier to move.
