Sandwich Draft 2017 (One Sandwich)

It's not so much that you picked lettuce, it's more that you picked the worst kind possible - in both flavor and nutritional value.

Who is judging this on nutritional value? I am solely basing my judgement on which one I want to cram in my face the most. Also, some people like iceberg lettuce. It may be old school but it has its place and you don't have to use organic wild-grown micro-greens grown on pure compost to appear "edgy" and "with it" or "hipster" or whatever to make a good sandwich. I enjoy iceberg mixed into a salad with all kind of other stuff like kale and spinach, as well as on a burger. Arugula and field greens or whatever else do not always make for a good complement to a sandwich or burger depending on what else you're using with it.
 
The king of swiss style cheeses, imo. Great pick. Love an aged emmentaler on any kind of hot sandwich. Awesome. It is also better than gruyere on french onion soup imo, has a little more sweetness that complements well. Love that stuff.
I thought about gruyere. If the emmental had been disallowed, I probably would have gone with Jarlsberg.

Trust me, I know this will not be based on nutritional value at all - I know the demographics of this board well enough. Just saying, iceberg basically has the least amount of flavor and nutritional value, which makes it kind of pointless on both fronts. I mean, shredded iceberg is what McDonald's and Subway use.

It's not like picking a lettuce besides iceberg is 'hipster' or 'trendy' or some other disparaging term you wish to use as a label, it's just recognizing that greener and colorful kinds typically have more flavor and substance.
 
Up until a few years ago I just assumed this stuff was disgusting, but it's actually quite dank....

Just a reminder, make sure you are hitting the requirements of the draft. So far only Wes, Thee, and Rubashov have drafted condiments.
 
I think it's fitting that if anybody were to draft white chocolate, they would automatically lose this contest. Because of disgust all around.

I agree with that assessment. But if you are focusing on a specific flavor profile and need a textural element iceberg could work quite well and not mask the flavors you are trying to put together. It depends on how it fits on the whole really. I just think that iceberg gets a bad rap because so many people try to be edgy or modern or original or whatever you want to call it, but it can still be perfectly fine in the right application.

Personally I prefer spinach or butter lettuce on a sandwich in general, but if I am just making a quick turkey or lunchmeat sandwich or something to take to work iceberg works fine.

Why are not any you prudes draftin kimchi? Bet only [MENTION=40]Siro[/MENTION] has ever tried a kimchi Rachel, kimchi banh mi, grilled kimchi pork cheese.

Other game crusher is gua bao an some y'all kin still cook one.
