The Donovan Mitchell Hype Thread! (repository of highlights and effusive praise)

I've already concluded that Mitchell is going to be a very good, borderline All Star player in a couple years (e.g., Brad Beal). Having moved past it, I'm now hoping that Exum and Mitchell can become an awesome backcourt together. Exum becoming an impact player is now the tricky part.

IF Mitchell becomes the players you are describing then all Dante needs to do is keep up with his defense that he showed his rookie year and average 10 to 15 points per game and hit 35% from 3 (what he is very capable of) and then you have a very good back court. Maybe not the scoring punch of Portland or Washington but a very feared match up.

Screw that. I want Exum to be close to John Wall!

You are saying that like it's the easiest thing in the world. IMO Dante will never shoot 35+% from 3 on a large enough sample.

Mitchell, and others like Sefolosha and Bradley, are already in SLC. They are starting to get the band back together!!

I think this year's team can be better than last year's team. I like the improved athleticism and length. Our bench is better than last years.

A belated happy birthday to DM.

In honor of his b-day everyone should re-watch this:

David Locke was a guest on Real GM Radio podcast with Danny Leroux this week where they did a preview of the Northwest Division. I thought it was interesting Locke said he thinks Mitchell will average 15 points a game this season. Anyway the other guy on the show, can't remember his name said he wasn't very high on Mitchell, or at least as high as most other people. Locke countered and said, "Hey man, last guy I saw tear up summer league like that was Dame and he turned out pretty well." (I'm paraphrasing and probably doing a poor job of it.)

This comment by Locke comparing Mitchell to Dame... I think it's interesting though he's certainly not the first to do it. I started watching summer league highlights for Dame one thing that stands out to me is how much more smooth Dame looks on offense and some of the passes he makes. I don't think Mitchell will be better than Dame at anything offensively accept maybe drawing fouls and moving without the ball. That said I think it's apparent DM is already a better defender by a lot. Mitchell definitely has more the skill set of a wing. The more I think about it, the more I wish DM was 2-3 inches taller!

I'm not sure his handle is currently good enough to be a star tbh. It's certainly adequate to get the job done but not yet where it needs to be if he is going to one day be an allstar. I think his handle will show some blemishes when the regular season starts and he's facing scouting reports, better defensive schemes (defensive schemes period actually), and better defensive players i.e. real NBA players who are longer, more experienced and at times just as athletic if not more athletic.

Does anyone think Mitchell could get to Dame's level offensively?

here's what I mean btw

If you listen to the whole podcast he commits to the prediction Mitchell will average 15 for the season. At one point he tells Danny explicitly it's gonna happen.
I stand corrected, thanks! He also waffled when pressed, saying he wouldn't take the bet in Vegas and not sure if he meant for full season versus end of season. Then he circled back and committed, but in a joking way.

But your broader point that he is very high on Mitchell is spot on.

When you say in a joking way, I think that's a poor way of characterizing it. But ok.
