Hoopshype Rudy Gobert Article

Flattery will get u nowhere! Idiot!! Why can't Burks make a comeback?

Comeback to what exactly? That implies he was already at some level and will return to that level or better. I do not think he ever showed he was a game-changing player in the first place. He showed some athleticism and an ok shot and the ability to attack the rim with questionable ability to finish at the rim. He also showed he could stagnate the offense, wasn't a great playmaker, and took ill-advised shots and forced things when a simple pass, a floater or a little pull-up jumper would have been way better than what he ultimately did. Yeah he never really had time, due to injuries primarily, to develop into what he may, but I do not see him as a comeback player. I see him as a project that may serve us better as trade bait based on untapped potential.

This is the biggest load of crap I've ever read!! He was one of the best bench players in the league two years ago before his injury. He was the second or third leading scorers off the bench in the league. I even remember him destroying LBJ's Heat team, at one point LBJ had to guard him because no one else could

"Hey remember that one time, that one guy, the one with the red hair, he hung like 40 points on Jordan. Yeah that one guy, I don't remember his name. We should have gotten that guy. He was obviously a monster. After that one game. Yeah."

I was giving one example. He had plenty of impact for that team

Burks was actually turning into a pretty good 3pt shooter. Wasn't he in the high 30's before his last injury? My view of "comeback" is if he could be a decent rotational player, not necessarily a starter. The goal isn't to get an asset for him; it's to avoid giving one up if his contract needs to be dumped in order to keep Hood, Exum and Favs or go after another FA or player via trade.

Burks was 40.5% for 3pt shooting in 2015-2016.

Even better than I thought. Thanks for the correction, Colton. Is it almost time for you to change that avatar?

I'm not necessarily disagreeing with you but there is a big difference between someone who is vocal and a leader. So far Gobert has only demonstrated the former.

Gobert has only proven that he really, really wants to win - which is great. But there a lot of guys in the NBA like that. It doesn't mean he's a leader.

The one instance last year where he called out his teammates in the press was concerning. Will there be anyone in the locker room to buffer that if The Jazz go on a prolonged losing streak this year; which is likely given the schedule?

I actually liked Gobert going at his teammates but only because I'm certain that he's always giving 110%. We've seen that type of mentality blow up in a player's face when he's one of the guys not giving his all, but we've also seen guys set the golden standard of what their team is all about when they are giving it everything they have and aren't afraid to call their teammates out for doing anything less than their best. I also think the team responded well to Rudy's comments.

Also, I like that he's present watching summer league and then makes it a point to single out Mitchell and say that he's gonna do everything he can to get the most out of him. I've got my fair share of concerns about this upcoming season but Rudy being a leader isn't one of them.

I usually agree with you. One of my favorite posters on the site. But I completely disagree with regards to Burks. Even that one year he was an inefficient ball stopping player that didn't play defense and bogged down the offense. I'd prefer he rehab some trade value and be out the door ASAP. I don't think he fits the mentality of this team and don't think he'll ever be more than a low efficient, bench player that needs to the ball in his hands to be of any worth. Since he doesn't pass once he has the ball and is attacking he is easy to guard most of the time.

Yeah... well my only hope is that he doesn't become to jacked.. The guy is super tall, I don't him to snap a knee because he became a muscle man. Lean and longer carreer is better than strong and injured.

there have been several reports from the jazz organization and from Rudy himself that his programs are specifically designed so as to not limit his mobility. You're looking at good weight.
