The President temporarily waived the Jones Act to Puerto Rico for 10 days. Effective immediately.

A ton of supplies is basically stuck at the San Juan harbor due to lack of truck drivers and cleared roads. This is where the armed forces would excel. Bulldoze the roads and have National Guard platoons start driving transport trucks to all the towns and cities. SMH

why do people in huricane season do not have food in house.

i mean not full on prepmode that could last you for a year or 5. but just basic **** that you could eat for 3-4 weeks!

then you don't have to wait for others to survive!

You probably don't recall but they had two devastating hurricanes almost back-to-back.

Many people were digging out from the first one when they got hit with the second.

And I would imagine many people there don't have the money to buy a month's worth of food all at once.

you dont have to buy it at once!

i did not have a lot of money as a student, but i built up a supply of 6 weeks for 3 persons food!

everytime you go to the supermarket you get a extra can of beans. or extra kg of rice. put it away!


you live in hurricane country. start doing it. it is pretty logical.

i dont know the tax situation in puerto rico. but i hear people get a 1000 tax break. i hope thos eliving in areas suspectible to storm use it to buy a supply or food. their are companies that sell ready made packages! i think 6 weeks for 2 person for 100 bucks.
when the time comes would you rathe rpray for trump to save your ***. or be a man and be responsible and take care of your family!
 
but the media and society laughs at preppers. they have extreme prepping shows that make people look ridiculous.
yes those people might be going overboard! not syaing you should have a 10 year food supply or hwatever, but would it hurt to just have 3 weeks to 3 month supply.

but we stigmatize it! we should be dependent on big daddy government!

The LDS (Mormon) church pushes this a lot. They would like to see all members have a 2 year supply. They have even gone so far as to prep scout camps in advance with plumbing and other essentials to house large numbers of people in the event of wide spread calamity. Prepping is much bigger thing in the Rocky Mountain west. All of this helps to add to the strong sense of individualism that is prevalent in the western US.

I myself can feed my family for about a month if things went south. The last week or so they might have some ... unique meals but they'd have full bellies. To me it just seems like a smart investment. It doesn't even have to be a natural disaster. Loss of a job, personal injury, financial struggles...

i was just gonna tell you that as far as i know their are no real natural disasters in that part of the us. so people who do not really need it have ti. but then read about loss of jon personal injury and financial strugless.

speaking of financials, their is also no cash in puerto rico. i always can get my hands on cash if all banks shut down!

There are a series of major faults along the Wasatch front and just like most major fault lines in the US they are geologically overdue to slip. A major earthquake in the SLC area would be devastating due to the fact that everything is built on an oceanbed (lots of sand and clay) that will go through liquifaction in a large earthquake, which would destroy most buildings and devastate infrastructure. The first house I ever owned I could not get insurance for earthquake since it was in the fault zone (less than 100 yards from the fault actually).

We can probably subsist for a good 3 months depending on water availability (we have maybe a month's worth of water on hand at all times in bottled water). But we can survive for a long time due to the fact that we have gone the pulse route. We have 5-gallon buckets of pulse for each member of the family, so, again dependent on water availability, we could survive for a good year if we absolutely had to on pulse. It wouldn't be fun but it would keep us alive.

I have some bottled water but I also have some water purification items.
[MENTION=146]DutchJazzer[/MENTION] yeah there is a lot that goes into being prepared. Especially if you go the hardcore route. Cash, clothes, ability to make fire, tools, firearms and ammo, camping gear, gardening equipment and seeds...

Well we always have a bottle of bleach, which can be used to purify water, and a few different filtration methods available. Hopefully we would never need it but with threats always present it is better to be somewhat prepared.

Of course there is someone in the ward here who has the full 2-year thing all set up including all the other stuff you mentioned there. I am trying to get on their good side. lol

If one were truly prepping for long term hardship scenarios on a grand scale the main area to focus on would be living off the land. Fishing, gardening, hunting, camping...

i never liked fishing and hunting. but my dad made sure i learned it. even slaughtering chickens is what i had to do

Stretching that to two burritos is a serious sacrifice. You better stockpile a few more. Just make sure they are also weaponized in case you have to take out some band of ruffians as you leave taco bell.

Seriously though the prepper thing is pretty stupid. A few days worth of food and water is all that you should spend your money on. If you spend a couple thousand dollars on "preparation" supplies you've really just shot yourself in the foot.

1. Wealth will serve you better and yummier and comfortableier. Spend a couple thousand dollars on goods that are ageing in your basement or invest the money in a rainy day fund and let it grow until it is needed? 99.9% of the time any catastrophe you may face caN in short order be escaped from and waited out in opulence have you the cash.

2. Leaving is the best plan. No running water means you will be pooping in your backyard. Taking an e-vacation means that you will not be pooping in your backyard.

3. Your home gets flooded or knocked down or whatever and your supplies are worthless. Man I really wish I had that money back about now.

4. Let's assume the emergency is so catastrophic that money is worthless, you can stay where you're at, and your supplies survived, then you have got bigger problems than rationing powdered potatoes. Namely me and anyone else you told(perhaps in your ward) that you have a 2 year supply of food. While you are comfortable and thinking about how to rebuild the world I have already committed to violent plans that will interupt yours. You would have been better served by steeling your resolve and preparing your conscience for the truth of what type of world you would be living in.

the government doesnt care about you!
helmet and seat belt laws are not because they care about you. but because insurance companies lobbied for it so they get more profit on insurance bussines

keep saying people who are prepared are stupid! if you can leave leave. but you can also built a hurricane proof house with hurricane shutters and have a few days worth of food supplies! be a adult be a man. be responsible for the care and protection of your family!
